Naneth

Naneth (nan-neth), or "Veri Adar" in the Eldar tongue was the name of the world created by Eldath and Silvanus. It oribtied The Sun, or "Asteria". Naneth was a planet with one large landmass, with several smaller islands, situated between two swatches of deep ocean. Orbiting Naneth were two moons; Talyeh and Vespera, the Moon of the Dawn and Eve.     For a general timeline of Naneth's history, see Timeline of Naneth For information on Naneth's Calendar, see Naneth's Calendar

Creation

Naneth was created within the mortal realm by Eldath and Silvanus, two of the mysterious Eres. Together, they shaped the landmass that would, within time, play host to a multitude of life. This world was named "Veri Adar" (Living World), by the first sentient creations of the Eres siblings; the Eldar.   After the initial creation of the world and the birth of it's first inhabitants, Eldath and Silvanus joined with several more members of the Eres, to begin shaping Naneth into a diverse hub of life and beauty. Among them were Sandrum and Armok; the creators of water and mountains respectively. Sandrum created the vast oceans and shallow lakes, toppling waterfalls and still pools. She filled them with all types of aquatic life, big and small. Armok spent his time creating the towering peaks of stone and iron. He shaped great passages into the ground, delving deeper into Naneth than any before. These creations were watched over closely by Eldath and Silvanus, as they wished to keep a perfect balance of life, peaceful and without strife. When Armok wished to created his own race of creatures to delve into Naneth, to harvest the bounties of the mountains, Eldath and Silvanus approved. So it was that the Dwarves of Armok were birthed into Naneth. Time passed and the Age of Creation moved forward. The world was now filled with all types of life. Beasts of all shapes and sizes; flying, walking, swimming or otherwise roamed the vast wild lands of Naneth.   However, other Eres soon wished to make their mark upon this new creation. Eres such as Bane, Bhaal, Myrkul and others that harbored a darker disposition towards life and beauty. Angered that they had not been part of Naneth's original creation, they began to work hidden away from the watchful eyes of the other Eres. They began to create lands of vast ash and dust, devoid of natural life, as a stark contrast to the beauty Eldath had created. In these lands they crafted horrible beings, monsters of extreme hunger and malice. Furthermore, they stole and corrupted a large portion of the Eldar; Eldath and Silvanus' most prized creations. They took the elves and shaped them into a horrid creation of their own; the Orc. This event would later be known as The Betrayal. It was this event that would lead into the conflict of the Eres and the eventual banishment to the Underblaze for Bane, Bhaal and Myrkul, now known as The Dead Three. But it would also end up giving life to Humans, as a reward to Torm for his valor in the conflict against the three evil Eres.   With the conflict now finished, Eldath and Silvanus decided to abandon direct intervention in the affairs of Naneth. Their collective vision of a peaceful world was shattered. So the Eres withdrew their physical forms from Naneth, retreating into the far reaches of the mortal plane, or farther. The idea was to give Naneth control over it's own fate and the chance to flourish, away from the protection of the gods. With that, the Age of Creation ended and the Age of Fire began. For the first time, mortals would be ensured with the stewardship of Naneth.

Geography

The Northeast
The original cradle of creation and the birthplace of all sentient life upon Naneth. The northeast of Naneth and present day Atmora features vast plains of grass tundra, treacherous reaches of mountains, quiet pine forests, and frigid arctic waters. Notably, this area contained:
  • The Teeth; an impassable range of mountains situated on the eastern coast of the region. This area is considered horribly dangerous to travelers, as many ill folk and creatures call the mountains home. However, it's winding caves and peaks have made it the ideal location for dwarven mines.
  • Pinetrost Woods; A large pine forest in the north. It creates a barrier between the east and west reaches of the region, situated atop the Venerath Plains. Because of the thick tree cover here, limited plant-life still grows upon the forest floor, protected by the snow above.
  • Venerath Plains; This field of tundra grass and open air starts on the western coast of the region, touching Royal's Bay, then ends in the east, upon the slopes of The Teeth.
  • Naneth's Tip; This large island lies to the far north and contains the Elder Forest. Naneth's Tip is considered to be the northernmost point in the world.

The Southeast
This region is widely considered the most dangerous and merciless area on Naneth, as it is now the present day location of the The Quaan Empire. Deserts of red dust and ash dominate most of this region, finally ending on either the cliffs of The Teeth or the toxic swamps to the west. The climate here is warm and dry, with hotter and more humid temperatures in the western reaches of the area. Notably, this region contained:
  • The Red Wastes; A vast and endless desert of low valleys, plateaus, and solitary mountains. The Red Waste makes up almost the entirety of the southeast region on Naneth. Only overtaken by The Teeth in the east, the Skuzlok Swamp to the west, and Naneth's Deep to the south.
  • The Teeth; Shared with Atmora and the northeast region above, The Teeth mountain range continues down the eastern coast of this region, finally petering off into Naneth's Deep.
  • Vivovar Mountain and Myrkul Mountain; Standing as solitary peaks among the Red Waste, these two mountains provide many with a home in their underground caverns.
  • Skuzlok Swamp; A toxic swamp that stands on the outlying reaches of the Sunrise Jungle. The mixing of fresh jungle water, ocean water, and the minerals of the Red Wastes has given this region an extremely unique identify in relation to the rest of Naneth. There are creatures living here that are found nowhere else in the world.

The Southwest
This region of Naneth is dominated by hot and humid temperature, tropical waters and devastating storms. Now present day Meridian and Chult, this region contains some of the most beautiful examples of the gods' creation. Notable areas of this region:
  • The Sunrise Jungle; The second largest forest on Naneth, dwarfed only by the Ironwood to the north. The Sunrise Jungle is home to thousands of diverse species of animal and plant-life. In fact, this may be the largest collection of life in a single place in all of Naneth. It stretches from the south coast of Royal's Bay, to Elfblood Bay's northern coast.
  • The Isle of Chult; A massive tropical island off the south coast of Meridian. This island is famous for it's dangerous tropical storms, vast jungles, and it's unique inhabitants. Chult is home to Dinosaurs, the children of Ubtao.
  • The Great Dust Plains ; This large, hot, area of white beach sand runs along the eastern coast of Gullet's Bay. Plant and animal life is fairly sparse on the land in this region, with the only life being present in the warm coastal waters of the bay.
  • The Dragoon Range ; Situated on the western coast of the Cragmaw region, the Dragoon Range is the largest mountain range in the southwest.
  • The Spur Savannah and Brightspire Mountains; These two features make up the heel of the southwestern landmass. The savanna features plains of long, dry, white grass. The Brightspire Mountains line the northern coast of Meridian's heel.
  • Gullet's Bay; This body of water sustains an entire country, it's warm coastal waters providing food to the elf dominated civilizations. The bay's white beaches line Meridian's coasts, giving way to rock and mud around the Cragmaw region.

The Northwest
This is the largest region in Naneth, stretching from the frigid water of the Sea of Ghosts, all the way down to the tropical Gullet's Bay. Because of this, the region of present day Astora contains several different changes in climate. Notable areas in this region;
  • The Ironwood Kingdom ; The largest forest in all of Naneth. The Ironwood runs from coast to coast, from the northern coast of Gullet's Bay, to the feet of the Vilmyr and Royal Mountains. This forest contains a deep connection to Eldath as it contained the largest kingdom of elves at one point.
  • Vilmyr Plains; Situated in between the Vilmyr and Royal mountain ranges, separating them from the Ironwood Forest. The climate here is a lush tundra of grass and sparse trees.
Vilmyr Mountains and Royal Mountains; These two mountain ranges lay parallel to each other on opposite coasts of the Astora region. Separating them is a large mountain pass, connecting the Vilmyr Plains to the Wilderlands of the north.
  • The Wilderlands ; Laying in far north of the region is The Wilderlands. It is a vast open tundra of snow and rock, home to only the most hardy of creatures. This area is separated from the rest of Astora by two mountain ranges, making travel to this area very limited.
  • The Rust Mountains and Red Rock Gulch; Situated just north of the Cragmaw region, the Rust Mountains and Red Rock Gulch is an interesting region named after the appearance of the rust colored dirt and rock in the area. The climate here is arid, making this the only desert area in the Astora region.
  • The Royal's Bay; Situated between the Astora and Atmora regions, the frigid waters of Royal's Bay serves as a busy trading hub, with hundreds of shipping lanes. These water stretch from the Sea of Ghosts all the way south to the warmer waters of Meridian.

Inhabitants

Naneth and the The Mortal Plane was home to several distinct races of higher intelligence, as well as hundreds of lesser races of beasts and other creatures. First to call Naneth home was the mysterious race of the gods; the Eres. They initially created Naneth and gave birth to all life upon it. After the Eres, came the Eldar or elves as they would later be called. They were created by the gods to become the shepherds of Naneth. Dwarves, created by Armok would follow soon after. Created to dwell deep beneath the earth, living within the mountains of Naneth.   Soon after these initial creations, The Dead Three betrayed their Eres brethren, giving way to the creation of several races, intended to be evil in their dispositions. Included were the bloodthirsty Orc and the mysterious Tiefling. Soon after, the defeat of The Dead Three at the hands of Torm the True led to the creation of Humans. For his role in the conflict, Torm was granted permission from the other Eres to create a race of his choosing.   Dragonfolk or Dragonborn are known as the "Children of Bahamut" and were created at some point after The Betrayal. It was Eldath that created the Dragonborn, as a gift to Bahamut for his role in the war against evil. Other races including Haflings, Tabaxi, Aaracokra, and others were initially created by the Eres as beasts. But through the years, proved their dominance and higher intelligence over other creatures on Naneth, emerging as true higher races, joining the others in civilization.

Age of Creation

The 1st Age of Naneth. Time was not recorded during this time. None truly know how long this era lasted.

  • 0 AoC

    Creation

The Creation of Naneth. The beginning of all life. The Eres, Eldath and Silvanus create Naneth upon the mortal plane. Other Eres add to Naneth's initial creation with creations of of their own. This leads to the total completion of the natural world, and the birth of the Eldar (Elves).

  • AoC
    The Betrayal

Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul; Eres that hadn't been permissed to create upon Naneth grow angry and resentful. In secret, they begin to create dark creatures, full of their own evil and malice, and let them loose upon the world. In their greatest act of hate, the three take a portion of the Eldar and corrupt them into their own sick creation; the Orc. When this betrayal was discovered by the other Eres, it lead to a full out conflict between the gods.

  • AoC
    War of the Eres

Upon seeing that conflict was inevitable, Bane, Bhaal and Myrkul struck first, ambushing and mortally wounding Armok, and the outright murder of Rainbow Crow. This pushed all the remaining Eres into conflict. In Naneth's darkest hour, the Eres named Torm rose to the challenge, defeating Bane in combat, and with the help of Silvanus, banished Bane, Bhaal and Myrkul to the Underblaze. For his deeds in battle, Torm was given the chance to make his mark upon Naneth. Torm chose to create life, leading to the birth of Men.

  • AoC
    Departure of the Gods

Upon the defeat of The Dead Three and their subsequent banishment, the other Eres decided that Naneth would be more likely to thrive without further interference on their behalf. With that most of the Eres withdrew from the world, leaving for or creating other planes of existence to live upon. Eldath and Silvanus retreated to the Feywild, while others such as Kelemvor became the stewards of The Void. Some of the Eres disagreed with this decision, deciding to remain on Naneth, albeit in much less powerful capacity, shades of their former selves. With this, the Age of Creation ended, and gave birth to the Age of Fire.

Age of Fire

AoF 1 - 810

With the creation of Men and departure of the gods, the 2nd Age on Naneth began. This was an era of chaos and violence. Events in this age are grouped together over large spans of time, as most specific history was lost after the Age of Mists.

  • AoF 1 - 345
    Civilization Begins

The newly created race of humans settles in the northeast region of Naneth. Aramoor, the first human city is founded on the western coast of the area, becoming the largest hub of civilization in the region.   Humans discover the race of Dwarves living in the large mountains range to the east; The Teeth. A prosperous partnership begins between the two races, and leads to the settlement of several smaller towns and villages, making northeast Naneth quite a hub of activity.

  • AoF 346 - 530
    The Great Calamity; Tiamat

Having fully colonized the northeast region of Naneth, humans and dwarves have been living peacefully. Even managing to complete trade with the elves, a race that has kept to themselves, in smaller communities deep in the wild.   This all changed when Tiamat, Queen of Dragons and The Great Calamity, notices that great strides these races have made, and decides to impose her will upon them. An early creation of the Dead Three, Tiamat harbors all the malice and hate of her former masters. Tiamat sends scores of dragon, wyrms, and other serpents to the northeast region of Naneth, to begin subjugating these other races. Caught off guard, the alliance of humans and dwarves falls easily, the region becoming slaves to Tiamat's growing empire.

  • AoF 531 - 560
    Pushback of Humans

Humans have continue to grow in number and flourish, even under the tyrannical rule of Tiamat and her armies of darkness. Push back against her rule begins in small isolated groups of rebellion. Dwarves that have long since retreated back inside the mountains, begin to emerge once more, intrigued by the growing strength of humans. Elvenkind takes notice as well, and the three races begin supporting one another in secret, away from Tiamat's gaze.

  • AoF 561 - 699
    The War of Fire

War begins on Naneth once again, as humans, dwarves and elves band together against Tiamat and her dark armies of monsters and orc. Aramoor is freed from Tiamat's grasp and her minions are pushed back towards the southeast region. Open war on Naneth begins; the War of Fire.

  • AoF 700 -780
War of Fire; The Tide Turns

The war has raged for over 100 years, with the free races of Naneth slowly losing. Tiamat's dark magic and seemingly undying forces are becoming too much to overcome. The northeast region is overrun with orc and monsters, only Aramoor remains free. The remaining forces of humans, elves and dwarves muster their full strength in the city, and ready themselves for years of potential push back against the enemy.

  • AoF 781 - 809
The Final Push; War of Fire

After years of holding out against Tiamat's forces, Aramoor is finally abandoned by the remaining humans, dwarves and elves. This is a victory in Tiamat's eyes, but in reality was a coordinated move by The Alliance. A plan is born to make a final push for Tiamat, to end this war once and for all. All remaining forces of good gather in the wilds of the northeast, mustering for a final surprise attack to the south, into the heart of Tiamat's power.

  • AoF 810
    The Battle for Orphan Peak

The final battle begins. The Alliance pushes a final assault into the heart of the Red Wastes; the heart of Tiamat's domain. They are greatly outnumbered, but push forward nonetheless. This battle is merely a distraction, as a company of four heroes make their way to Orphans Peak, the rumored home of Tiamat herself. This battle is a bid to draw out Tiamat's forces, making the journey to Orphans Peak much easier for the heroes.   The plan is successful, as the heroes arrive at Orphans Peak and engage Tiamat in combat.

  • AoF 811
    The Rise of the Mists

The heroes are successful in defeating and banishing Tiamat, but not without great cost. There are almost no survivors of the final battle to distract Tiamat's forces. Regardless, The Alliance was victorious as the dark forces of the world fled after Tiamat's defeat.   But Naneth was betrayed once more. One of the heroes present for the battle against Tiamat betrayed his companions and using magic, managed to split open the mountains at Orphans Pea. Deadly mists began to flow out of the peak, soon engrossing the entire region with death. The remaining humans and dwarves fled to the mountains, taking refuge from the mists. The elves returned to the wilds and forests, evoking ancient magic provided by Eldath to protect their lands against the mists.   The Mists eventually engrossed the entirety of Naneth, choking out life wherever it reached. It is thought that this mist was actually an agent of an unknown entity, an entity of great power; now known as the Nameless One. So began the long dark of the Age of Mists.

Age of Mists

AoM 1 - 2042

The 3rd Age of Naneth began with the releasing of the Mists. All mortal life on Naneth was threatened.

  • AoM 1 - 2042
    The Long Dark

The Long Dark spans for over two thousand years. Humans and dwarves cling to life within the mountains of Naneth, while elves survive in their hidden forest kingdoms, protected by the magic of Eldath. This long amount of time in solitude changes the elves into a more isolationist type of society. Most other life on Naneth is choked out, in a bid by the Nameless One to remove all marks of the previous gods.   But life would endure, as the mist could not penetrate all faucets of the natural world. The Nameless One had failed, as the mists begin receding in AoM 2042.

With the receding of the Mists, life on Naneth prevailed. This was the beginning of the 4th Age.
