Dragonborn

Dragonborn, also known as the "Children of Bahamut" or "Bahamut's Reward" are draconic-like humanoids that live upon Naneth. Typically solitary and mysterious, Dragonborn often live in the mountains and wilds of Naneth, preferring to stay away from civilization, however there are exceptions to this. Some Dragonborn show extreme skill in magical arts, often becoming Paladins or Clerics, working towards Bahamut's glory, or even as Warlocks, serving their fallen queen Tiamat.

Description

Dragonborn resembled exactly what their names suggested; dragon-like humans. Standing upon two legs, with the body of a dragon, yet lacking the wings of a true wyrm of the sky. Dragonborn were quite large creatures, often standing above 6'5" and easily weighing close to 400 lbs. A dragonborn in full plate, lumbering into battle is among the most ferocious of sights. Dragonborn also possessed long claws on each hand and foot, as well as a long tail extending out their back. It is said, that Dragonborn live in the wilds to continue developing these traits, in mediation towards Bahamut. Most hope to one day sprout wings, and once their lord has deemed it worthy, take to the skies. However, it is unknown if such a feat could ever occur, and has yet been proven.   Dragonborn also possessed a formidable breath ability, akin to their dragon brethren. Depending on the colour of their scales and heritage, dragonborn are often able to project elemental damage towards their foes. Among the most common types are fire, poison, cold, and lightning breath. This ability further solidified dragonborn as one of Naneth's fiercest races. Dragonborn that possessed a breath ability, would also display resistances to that same type of elemental damage.

Types of Dragonborn

Most Dragonborn lived the same types of regions, worshiped the same gods, and lived the same types of lifestyles. However, it was their colours that made them truly unique from each other. The following are each type of Dragonborn:   Black: Dragonborn of black scale often served Tiamat, and lived in secret among the mountain ranges in the south of Naneth. They produced acid breath, melting through their enemies.   Blue: Blue Dragonborn could often be found in Astora, either living in the wilds, or within city centers. They are among the Dragonborn most comfortable with civilization. They produced lighting breath.   Brass: Dragonborn of Brass scale are quite rare, with most examples of their kind living with the Rust Mountains of Astora. They produced fire as their elemental breath.   Bronze: Another quite rare type of Dragonborn. They are usually spotted in the northern reaches of Naneth, among The Teeth in Atmora. They produced lightning with their breath.   Copper: Dragonborn were very comfortable within mountain ranges, and the Copper Dragonborn is no different. This type is usually seen with the Rust Mountains, or even the Dragoon Range in the Cragmaw region. They produced acid breath.   Gold: Perhaps the most beautiful of the race, Gold Dragonborn are usually found within Naneth's southern reaches, and are quite common in areas such as Meridian. They produced fire from their breath ability.   Green: Another quite common type of Dragonborn. Usually found among cities and villages, Green Dragonborn were no strangers to the other races of Naneth. These Dragonborn produced acid with their breath ability.   Red: These Dragonborn, while not entirely rare, usually contained evil dispositions. They are often found within Meridian of The Quaan Empire, serving their queen Tiamat, looking for ways to raise her from her fiery prison. Their breath abilities produced fire.   Silver: These Dragonborn were native to the northern areas of Naneth, and could be found mingling with civilization quite often. They are found mostly in Astora and Atmora. These Dragonborn produced elemental cold with their breath ability.   White: Almost indistinguishable from Silver Dragonborn, White Dragonborn are almost exactly the same, even producing the same type of cold damage with their breath. However, White Dragonborn were much more rare, and tended to stay in the The Wilderlands of Astora, as solitary beings.

Culture

Dragonborn culture differed greatly, depending on the type and colour of the scales. Types such as brass, bronze and copper dragonborn tended to remain away from the rest of Naneth's civilizations, living in the wilds, surviving off the land. These types would often spend their time upon Naneth in meditation with Bahamut, worshiping him and bringing him glory. For they believe that once worthy of their master, Bahamut would grant them wings and the ability to fly the skies of Naneth. On the other hand, types like blue, green and gold dragonborn were very comfortable within the confines of civilization. They could be very active within their own communities, often being the strongest creatures in small towns or villages, they could be counted on for protection from the wilds. These types, along with silver dragonborn, could often be seen serving as Paladins or Clerics of Torm; Bahamut's powerful companion during the Age of Fire.   Unfortunately, not all dragonborn contained such fair virtues, such as red or black dragonborn. These types often aligned themselves with Tiamat, or those that served darkness. What causes these types to turn towards evil is unknown, perhaps a spell woven by Tiamat herself. They could often be found within The Quaan Empire, working alongside Tiefling and Orc.

History

The Dragonborn were one of Eldath's final creations during the storied Age of Creation. They were created as "Bahamut's Reward", a gift for the Lord of Dragons, for the role he played in the conflict against The Death Curse. Alongside Humans, Dragonborn stand as the final creation of The Eres, before the Age of Creation ended, and the Age of Fire began. During the Age of Fire, dragonborn stood content with remaining in the wilds of Naneth, ignoring the problems of the more active races. Though during the War of Fire, dragonborn of red and black scale would have fight on the side of Tiamat and her legions of darkness. Though once defeated, they retreated back into the wilds as well.   During the Age of Mists, dragonborn continued living in the wild, though now situated inside mountains and caves. for two thousand years generations of dragonborn awaited an end to the toxic mists that clouded Naneth's skies, and eventually the end indeed arrived. The Age of Renewal began, ushering in a new time of prosperity for the dragonborn race, as they began to take part in the activities of the wider world. Many types of dragonborn joined with the other races, creating bastions of civilizations across the rediscovered wilds of Naneth.   The Dragonborn of Naneth do not posses a storied history like some of the other races of Naneth. The more populous and dominant races of Naneth, such as Humans, Dwarves and Elves have all had a larger hand in shaping the world as it stands today. However, Dragonborn still have their part to play, especially if certain figures succeed in raising Tiamat from The Underblaze, a prospect that would threaten the entirety of the world.
