Halfling

Halflings, also known as Gnomes or Hobbits, were a small humanoid-type race that lived on Naneth. Standing around half as tall as Humans or Elves, halflings were known as small and cheery folk, almost always getting along with the other races of the world. Other than height, they looked very similar to humans, or perhaps human children.

Description

Halflings were very small in comparison to the other intelligent races of Naneth. On average, they would stand about 2'8" - 3'8" and weigh 30-40lbs, though some of the heavier drinkers would pass into the higher 40's. Their skin was of a similar complexion to humans, if not a bit more tanned. Their eyes usually shone in shades of green and brown. Halflings were also incapable of growing facial hair. Whereas normal hair may reach down to one's ankles, not a single hair would sprout upon their chins. The halflings of Naneth were a very peaceful and relaxed folk, never going out of their way for extra work, or dressing up fancy for an evening out.   Halflings displayed very similar stages of lifespan to humans, with adults reaching maturity at ages around 16-20. However, halflings would live much longer than their human counterparts, often pushing well over 100 Years, occasionally closer to 200.

Subraces

Lightfoot: The most common type of Halfling, found often living in, or on the fringes of, large civilizations in Astora or Meridian. These Halflings integrated well with the other races of Naneth, and were quite content to partake in the business sector of their respective towns and cities. Halflings can often be found running bars or taverns in their local area.   Stout: The more wild cousin of the Lightfoot Halfling, Stouts often lived within the hills and mountains of their region. They often displayed a more shy disposition towards civilization, deciding to live in the wilds, or in smaller, less busy communities. As their name suggested, they were, on average, heavier than their Lightfoot cousins.

Society

Culture

Halflings were usually content to live among the other races of Naneth, within their large cities or in smaller, tighter knit communities. Halflings often kept very close family ties as well, occasionally living in large generational homes, among their young and elders. True halflings also had a love for stories, legends, nature, and drink. They can usually be found out in nature, admiring the creations of Eldath and Silvanus, or within a tavern, chatting and laughing behind a great mug of ale. Gods like Eldath, Silvanus, Sune, and Virdi are among the most revered by halfling folk. Their love of parties and drinking directly relates to Sune's teachings of relaxing and love, while Virdi's tricky nature also appeals to the sneaker among the hobbit-folk.

Interracial Relations

Halflings, are among the most easy going people one would find in Naneth. They get live among, and co-operate well with almost all others, the exceptions being Orc or Tiefling that have shown hints of evil. In places like Astora, these short folk are treated fairly as official citizens of the realm, giving all the same rights as a human or elf would enjoy. However, due to the non-human tensions in Atmora, halflings are rarely seen in that region anymore, often deciding to flee to countries without racist tendencies.

History

Halflings were created by Eldath and Silvanus during the Age of Creation. Then, these hobbit-fok would have be known as little more than forest dwelling creatures, hardly worth a second thought. They were created around the same time as The Eldar, a race that that would have been tasked with watching over them and the other creatures created by The Eres. Little more has occurred within the history books for the halfling race, as they were not active within the Age of Fire. During the Age of Mists, they would have been found living in the sheltered forests of elven homelands, enjoying the protection from the toxic mists granted by Eldath for the Eldar.   As the Age of Renewal dawned, it would be in this age that they truly began making their marks upon the world. For within the first 200 years of the 4th age, Halflings became known as more than forest critters, first becoming recognized as an official race in Atmora, later gaining the same title in Astora and Meridian. Now, Halflings are free to enjoy Naneth, free and equal as any other race. The largest concentration of Halfling now dwells in Astora, within the Ironwood Forest and Hills.
