Tabaxi

Tabaxi, also known as "Cat-men" or "Jaguar-Folk", are feline type humanoids that live upon Naneth, specifically within the jungles of Chult. They are a mysterious and rare race, with possibly only a couple thousand individuals living at one time.

Description

The cat-folk of Chult were a tall and slender race, though quite a bit heavier than the other races, due to the extra weight from fur and claws. On average they stood over 6'0" tall, and weighed over 200lbs. Tabaxi sported long claws on each paw, very useful for combat and surviving the wilds of which Tabaxi usually lived. Although this feature also allowed Tabaxi to become quite talented guitarists, using those long claws to pluck the strings. On their faces, Tabaxi displayed long whiskers and furry ears, allowing them to become quite perceptive of their surroundings. Their eyes, usually coloured bright yellow or green, could pierce even the darkest nights. Perhaps the Tabaxi's greatest asset were their quick and athletic builds, allowing this race to move incredibly fast across open ground, closing distance between them and a target at great speeds. This makes Tabaxi some of the most skilled hunters on Naneth, rivaling even the Elves.   Their lifespans were quite comparable to Humans, if not a little bit shorter on average. Lots of Tabaxi never lived to see the end of their lives naturally however, as the lifestyle they lead were typically quite dangerous, especially those that live on Chult.

Society

Culture

Tabaxi were mysterious and quite rare, with most individuals of the race appearing only in Chult and Meridian, though they were even more rare in the latter. Tabaxi did not form large family groups, with most individuals preferring to roam alone through life, or in small groups of two or three. Most Tabaxi lacked a proper home to settle down, and continued to move around for the entirety of their lives, becoming notorious as nomads and wanderers. Most Tabaxi lived as hunters or bards, professions well suited to travel through deep jungles and rural settlements respectively.   Most Tabaxi lived solitary lives, and rarely shared their time with any gods or idols. Those that did recongise the world of the gods usually worshiped Eldath or Ubtao. Some shadier individuals would even worship Shar, the Night Mother, glorifying her with sneaky deeds or more likely, misdeeds.

Interracial Relations

Tabaxi became recognized as a higher, intelligent, race as the Age of Renewal progressed, and even then, only in Meridian and Chult. They are still very rare, and often keep to themselves. However, when they do interact with other races, the engagements are usually quite civilized. The Tabaxi have good relationships with the humans of Chult and the elves of Meridian.

History

It is unknown how exactly the Tabaxi came into being. They would've needed to be created by an Eres. but whether it was Eldath or Ubtao that gave them life is unknown. They were present in Chult as early as the Age of Fire, living alongside the ancient Chultean Kingdom of old.   During the Age of Mists, Tabaxi likely survived hiding among the mountains of Chult. Their survival instincts and piercing eyes would have lent themselves well to life inside the mountains. During the Age of Renewal, Tabaxi finally emerged as an intelligent race on Naneth, making themselves known in the southern regions. Now, they are recognized as official members of Meridian and Chult, and are likely to continue that trend, as they grow more known across the world.
