The Venator

Poor soul, the Venator were a legend once... now that you've confessed to dreams you will discover just how real they are...
The Venator are an ancient organisation that were born at the inception of Namarie, however, when the Ever-Living struck the world the Venator were slain by He Who Devours and their queen was killed. Soon after the destruction of the Venator, Thornden struck their deals and created the ritual lands, being banished from Namarie for what they did.   However, when the mists receded from Thornden receded as they made up for their crimes they brought a slew of gifts with them... including a dark skinned tiefling reincarnation of their former Shadow companions. The last and first Venator.   When the Ever-Living struck and He Who Devours was killed in the Shadowfell, the creatures final death returned the shards of the Shadar-Kai to the Shadowfell and reignited the lantern of the matron of crows, the Venator were born once more, another gift from a Harbingers of Thornden. Since that day, the Venator have spread and grown powerful. Many of them have returned to their true roles. The protection of Kaechaek and ensuring that The Quori and The Nocta Mori remain balanced. They have also built an alliance with The Woven Providence, utilising their dream veil to act as a place for both factions to work and accept jobs as well as requesting aid. The Venator are known for their dark black leather armour studded with bone, the chains they wear around their arms and, of course, their shadow companions that are often styled to look like wolves that are black as night and DEEPLY ferocious.   The Venator are zealots of the Venator queen, the Duskmother and the last Venator and are committed to removing 'dreamers', those who have imaginative or recurring dreams or nightmares. Sometimes they use memory modification for this but, in the oft-case that this is not a full solution they have been known to kill dreamers. They also track down creatures of evil ambition, endless slumber and those that pervert the course of death.   The Kaechaek Party have interacted with the Venator in passing, most notably, they witnessed the Venator in Bloomwilt where two of them tore through hordes of The Quori and The Nocta Mori but were also seen killing any unconscious dreamers that they passed... the most efficient way to combat the Quori and Nocta Mori.

Structure

The organisation of the Venator is very similar to the Woven Providence though the venator will often work in groups and squads of at least 4 people but have been known to travel in groups of up to 20.    The Venator communicate with one another but, in Kaechaek, they also work with Emperor Honour as part of a political alliance. They answer to their gods, eachother and the Last Venator.

Culture

Most Venator were raised and trained in the Shadowfell and, though not all members are shadar-kai, most of them feel like foreigners in the material plane. This makes many of the members of the Venator seem cold and ruthless. This is primarily because in the eyes of the Venator all creatures are temporary and dangerous with their time in the material plane.    The Venator fail to understand or empathise with a creature wishing to extend their lives and are disgusted by the notions of resurrection and revivification, seeing it as an insult towards the Duskmother.    Ultimately, a Venator is committed to their role as dealing with dreamers and care very little for the people involved in their jobs. If a venator was tasked with killing a child who had recurring nightmares, they often would not care for the repercussions of their actions.   There are, however, many exceptions to this rule amongst the Venator.

Assets

The Venator have a unique relationship with resources as they are inherently self sufficient and yet a member of the Venator, if judged to be a worthy member, will have one-of-a-kind equipment that is near impossible to find in the world. Their chains and armour are worth a large sum of money to collectors if one can stop them from turning to dust after a finite time.
