Joston Federation of Independent States

This nation is actually a collective of individually governed city-states, all allied to strengthen their defense against outside influences. If not for their tentative alliance, the Empire of Tor would have conquered most of these cities ages ago. Each city has its own system of government in place, and while some differ greatly, they are able to overcome their differences for the greater good of all within the Federation. This isn't to say, however, that they are unified as one entity when it comes to most issues. Even the threat of invasion doesn't always garner support of every city, aid is only truly given if a city feels the issue is definitely going to inconvenience them.   The history behind this council of city-states is simple, yet soaked in blood. It was after the invasion by the Empire, who sought to conquer the young Republic of Gwenn and to expand their influence into the Plains of Rafwal, that the cities of the Plains of Rafwal banded together and formed the Federation. It was named after the first city to fall to the Empire, which was accidentally raised to the ground, killing most inhabitants. Joston City, just one of the cities that fell before the might of the Empire, was unique in that through an unfortunate course of events it was burned to the ground. Most of the inhabitants died in the blaze and chaos that followed.
