Joston City
This entire city has been in ruins for over a thousand years.
Not far from the region now known as the Bloody Foothills by settlers from the Masara Archipelago, it was a mixed race community that was truly revolutionary for its time. The settlers consisted of most of the common civilized races, including others that are uncommon to advanced societies, such as goblins and minotaurs, and many more. This was a sort of safe haven for anyone to live.
The city of Joston grew large, and quite powerful. While it would have never been said to rival one of the great metropolises of the world, it was still a frontier settlement for much of it's lifespan and yet had a population that could rival some of the larger cities closer to tamed lands. It had access to the sea, and bountiful land for farming. It was also relatively close to a mountain range rich in minerals and stone.
That all changed when war broke out between the invincible Empire of Tor and the young and idealistic Republic of Gwenn. The war ravaged the Plains of Rafwal, at which Joston City sat at the western edge...on the border with Tor. The Empire's army arrived and made demands of the local cities. Those that resisted were considered enemies. In one of the early battles of the war that would later be known as the Final Toran Expansion, Joston City was caught in a bloody battle surrounded by enemy soldiers from the two warring nations. At the time, it was not known that the army of the Republic considered the neutral cities of the land to be allies, and thus in the midst of the chaos, the citizens of Joston City felt they had nowhere to flee and ended up burning to death in a horrible blaze. It was an event in history remembered as the "Slaughter of Joston".
The hillside nearby was later named after this horrible event, the "Bloody Foothills". While there were survivors from Joston City, both from the battle itself and that lived abroad, history tells us the majority of the residents died in the inferno.
