Segha
Segha is the pilot of the Lawgiver, a position filled in a truly unorthodox fashion in Stenza society. Whereas most positions in any occupation are filled by merit (i.e. being a skilled technician or doctor), the Lawgiver is widely rumored to be governed in part by an AI. As such, common practice following The Incident (a horrific death of a prospective pilot; to this day it is up for debate whether the cause of death was an accident or the result of the AI's deliberate actions) has been to allow the computer to interact with potential pilots and choose one that they get along with the best. This is commonly the beginning of a lifelong bond between the two which has a very firm place in ship folklore.
On top of his role as the ship's pilot, he is also in a deeply committed relationship with Ed'ha, the chief of security aboard the ship. In order to maintain a work/life balance he has set up a system of "shifts", sections of his day where he is "on duty" as the pilot and connected into the computer systems. Off-duty, the ship is cared for by the network, and he catches up with his wife (often while she is still at work and frequently when she needs some calming down--one of his specialisms).
