Citizen-Recruit

"Citizen-Recruit" is the designation given to any young Stenza who has undergone the Citizenship Trial and then joined the armed forces, but has not yet done anything else. These are the individuals who undergo basic training (on top of everything they had learned before needing to undergo the Citizenship Trial during their general education).

Qualifications

A citizen-recruit must have done two things: successfully complete the Citizenship Trial and join the military unit affiliated with their Droga. These are predicated on a successful completion of their schooling within the droga (and assumes due consideration of the career paths available to them and what a career in the military, let alone as a citizen, would mean for the individual personally, although this does not always apply and is not strictly necessary).

Requirements

Anyone who wants to be a citizen-recruit must belong to a Droga (counting the Clan of the Lost), must have been thoroughly educated in the language and culture of the Stenza (a process which usually takes almost two decades but can be done more quickly with dedicated study), and have successfully undergone the Citizenship Trial.

Appointment

Although a young Stenza will decide this beforehand and prepare appropriately, he or she must first make sure to pass the Citizenship Trial before approaching the ranked officers of the droga, including the Droghi, about joining the armed forces. The potential must demonstrate level-headed consideration and rational thought, and explain what they expect out of a career in the military (essentially answering "Where do you see yourself in five years?"). This serves to show the establishment of the clan that the potential is simultaneously a free thinker and capable of maintaining a line of thought under pressure, both admirable traits in the Stenza military.   Following the interview, the potential is assessed and assigned an officer to train under in order to integrate into the structure of the military side of the clan and engage in further training. It is at this point that a young Stenza becomes a citizen-recruit.

Accoutrements & Equipment

A citizen-recruit is issued Battle Armor, Insulating Mesh, a Blaster Rifle and a series of small, compact bladed weapons such as Arm-Blades. On top of this they may be issued more specialized equipment based on their career path (medics in training are issued first-aid kits and medical tools they will learn to use from the Medical Doctor they are training under; technicians on battleships are issued maintenance equipment while they train under a forepreson, and so on).

This is a great rank name. I assume it's a bit of a stepping stone to greater things for most stenza?

It can be, actually. It isn't a barrier to things like being a parent or most careers (like it would be in Starship Troopers), but there are some careers that DO require one to attain this rank first. It's one of those things adolescents think about for a few years, weighing their options and commonly asking the older folk for advice.
