Ṣef̂ǒl

Ṣef̂ǒl (shephol) is a plant native to the Southern Peninsula, which is within a day's boat ride from the Southern Islands, and is renowned across the galaxy for the vivid yellow color produced by its flowers. However, all ʂef̂ǒl bred for dye purposes live on ships and space stations, near the decks for Sandibari forest preserves and running off of many of the same climate control systems. The space-raised plants are raised from native Mudeweian samples, kept in a special sterile environment specifically designed for optimum growth.   The vivid yellow dye produced by ṣef̂ǒl flowers is used in particular on uniforms to denote individuals who work hazardous jobs (periodically also including "liminal" professions such as Metalsmiths), on the uniforms of Medical Doctors, and as paint to label areas on certain types of ships, such as the location of a teleport access. The vividness of the yellow usually indicates danger, and so it is rarely used for decorative purposes (although this has happened, thanks to some countercultural movements and people who like the "look" of the color for whatever reason).   Ṣef̂ǒl is only used as a dye by the Stenza; other cultures prefer their own sources for yellow and adjacent colors, usually with a lot more nuance and color variation. Earthlings sometimes prefer yellow colors for their connotations of cheeriness and sunshine, although this is not common across the planet.
Conservation Status
The "wild" Mudeweian variants of ʂef̂ǒl are left by and large alone, except for studies conducted by Sandibari and Stenza naturalists. The "domesticated" variants are maintained in designated areas aboard specific ships (designated for peaceful use) and aboard space stations.

Looks like the title couldn't cope with the fancy character. :(   I like that the vividness of the colour produced by ʂef̂ǒl has come to connote danger. I can picture the shade really well in my mind just from that.

Alas, not all codes can do all things.
