Worldember 2023

It is QUICKLY approaching that time of the year, where the forge is warm and there are embers everywhere. WorldEmber is almost upon us and thus, it is time to prepare!

Ah, lovely November, where most people worry about NaNoWriMo but some of us worry more about the WorldEmber prep homework. 'Tis a lovely time of the year. And as always, I am more than ready for prep yet not at all ready for the proper WorldEmber xD

Pledge

As every year, my goal is to get to 10k words. But of course, the important part is not reaching 10k words but to enjoy what I'm doing and end the month without being burn out! So that's my full goal, reach 10k words and be happy.

I will also be doing an Unofficial event - Mixing symptoms 2, which I hope I can hype people to join me in. And as for extras, I'd love to read and comment as much as my silly lil brain allows me.

Area of focus

For this WorldEmber, I plan on mainly working on Shattered, specifically on its bases. I'd like to try to write as many articles about its bases as I can, while allowing myself some space to work on my other worlds because I know myself and I cannot work on just one world for too long.

The bases that I'd like to work in Shattered are: the main islands, the giants, the corpses, and lidust. I also have a bunch more stubs that I can work in listed in my Scattered notes article.

Other than Shattered, I wanna leave some space and oportunity to work on a new world of mine that I've been preparing. It will be a world that, hopefully, will make me write about things out of my comfort zone and that, i hope, will make me learn things and grow as worldbuilder.

Brain already did its thing of not being able to focus on one single thing and I've now decided that I will absolutely be working on Daeliha as well as of Shattered. What will I be working on? Dunno! Follow Daeliha to discover as I discover what I'll be doing! This suddent burst of inspiration comes from me doing a NaNoWriMo in a novel happening in Daeliha.

I've been this past week or two checking Daeliha's articles. They are now all privated because I was checking that all fits the lore (so not outdated lore). During this november month (I won't promise cuz then I overwork it and either hate the stuff or burn myself) I would like to make back public some of the articles of Daeliha (especially the introduction article).

And let's be honest. I feel much more comfortable dropping weird conditions on Daeliha, so expect conditions from Unofficial event - Mixing symptoms 2 in there.

Mini-metas

Here we go again I guess. I don't like metas so I won't spend a lot of time in these.

Shattered

The scope will be its bases, which is limited to the giants (6 left), the main islands (6 left), and three specific articles (check spoiler under "Area of focus") to see a proper list of the articles.

The themes of it will be: the innerworks of Shattered, the places that compose Shattered, and the events that formed Shattered. Shattered itself (for mood) is a place that as a single person you probably wouldn't be able to change things and it's a world that is not harsh to live in unless you push things.

Daeliha

The scope? Wild card. I have no idea. Probably conditions of Daeliha and some magic stuff.

Daeliha is a dark fantasy world. You can find your common fantasy races (mostly) with a twist to them (so far, only Elves have been written down; hopefully I'll publish them once again before WE). Even if many of my articles are about conditions (that more usually than not are deadly or painfully), it's still a fantasy place where magic is common but mages themselves not much. People can use magic, but most aren't trained to do anything with it (at least at their own will).

Categories

Look. I'm not going to lie. I've cried and sweated making the actual categories in both Shattered and Daeliha. I love Shattered categories even tho they might not be the most user friendly; I'm not changing them cuz they fit perfectly aesthetically (at least for me) and it keeps the rule of 7 that I have been doing in Shattered (if you realized congrats! If not? No worries, it has nothing of importance other than I thought it was funny). Daeliha? I made her categories a year or two or three ago. They are indepth and a lot. Unless I get problems with them while doing some work this November or during WE, I'll probably won't change them.

TDLR: categories are painful and they are "good enough" in their state right now, so as a good programmer, I'm following the logic of "If it works, don't change it".

Update 30/11: I don't remember what day it was since I didn't really write it down, but I actually updated Daeliha's categories. Just made it so that there aren't so many at first sight as there where before.

is releasing a novel on the 17th November! I've read the first two chapters and a short prose (which you can read here for free) that she wrote to introduce you to the world and, so far, I'm LOVING IT! Find out more information here! Can't wait to read it! Biscup's worldbuilding is always inspiring, specially how technology and magic are considered and treated as one!

Homepages

Oh gods. Okay so, Daeliha won't have a homepage for this WE for two main reasons: I'm still unsure of the bases of the world, I'm exhausted and I don't have time (and it's overwhelming). Shattered, on the other side, it had already a homepage, so I asked some feedback and both Satrium and Tyrdal gave me amazing feedback! So Shattered's homepage has been updated to be a bit more friendly to new users.

Last minute prep!

Writing exercises! No time for them tbf, but I did 10k words for NaNo and I've edited the big amount of one articles for Daeliha. So I'm marking it as done.

Schedules? Tidy desk? Who got time for it? Not me T.T We go wild and hope for the best (specially after discovering I might not be able to write a lot on the first two weeks.

Snacks? I forgot about them and I'm writing this the day right before WE so ehh, next question!
