Imicea

The City of Imecea was built by the king of the Miceans, Theanus the Conqueror. It was meant to be in honor of the goddess Liya, with a massive temple in the center of the city. During it's height, it became a center of wealth and political and military power. It developed it's own dialect and was the home of many wonders of construction, such as the temple, the school of war, and the tower of the god-kings.

Demographics

The population were mainly Miceans, but many from far and wide eventually came to live there, such as Haines, Hirrans, and Avarune, and Rûn.

Government

The king was the ultimate ruler of the city, and surrounding Empire, but the Liyettic Preisthood was also a powerful organization and presided over traditional ceremonies. The king and household all had certain duties, such as the wife of the king, who presided over money and material assets, sponsoring construction, funding artists and academics, and overseeing charity. Older children of the king often took up duties in the military, or as foreign diplomats. Siblings of the king often joined the preisthood, or studied magic and went to war.

Defences

The city was protected by a large moat and high stone walls, with archer's nests built at intervals along the wall. In addition, seven tours were built along the wall to serve as lookouts and supply rooms for the soldiers. The walls also had several built in holes through which burning oil could be poured. Each district was sectioned off with walls, so if the outer wall was breached, defenders could block off the district and defend the rest. The city was defended by almost nine hundred soldiers at all times.

Industry & Trade

Imicea was first known for the production of bronze from nearby copper mines, but as the Micean Empire grew, so did the resources they produced. Many residents make a living from iron smithing, spinning and weaving wool, carpentry, stone carving, and furs, which they sold to nearby lands such as Avarune and Hain. Within the daily market in the Merket Plaza, a resident of Imicea could buy things such as tin, salt, and pinewood from the Hain, wool, tea, and pearls from the Hirran, wine and gold from Lakoth, precious stones, glass, pigment, oil, and herbs.

Infrastructure

Imecea was a walled-in settlement, with the palace in the center across a large plaza with the temple of Liya on the other side. On one side lay also the arena for sports and large public events, while on the other side sat the School of War, which could house and train three thousend apprentice warriors at any given moment as well as two seperate armories, three stables, classrooms, smaller arenas for battle training, a War Library, and engineering workshops. The plaza itself was restricted to only the upper class, or those who worked at any of these places. The Market Plaza lay further forward in the city, and was the center of Imcean commerce and trade. The remained relatively clean due to small runoff canals along the rode in which water from rainfall ran out of the city into the moat around it, taking sewege, scraps, and general filth with it. Throughout the streets, torches and lamps hung to provide light on the streets at night, and were enchanted to remain lit. Around the walls, large perches are built in to allow sheltered places for archers to stand, and each district of the city could be walled off and evacuated in the case of disease, diseaster, or invasion.

Districts

The city was devided into several distinct districts which could be walled off from each other. The district around the main gate, which contains the Market Plaza is the merchant district. It was generally rather wealthy with comfortable homes on the second floor, and shops on the first floor. Travelers could rent space on the third floors. The streets were wide, and nearly every street contained an inn with a stable. This district also contained a large amount of diversity and so also had bathing houses in traditional Hirran style and Rûnic community homes. The Military District contained barracks for soldiers, armories, stables, and training facilities, as well as inns and brothels. It was home to the standing army which guarded the city, several thousand trainees, hired mercenaries, and more. The Iron District was famous for producing a great amount of ironware and other metal products from nearby iron mines, though it grew to also sell gold, silver, and precious gems for the wealthy elite. Ironsmiths earned a great fortune and had many apprentices to help them. Even though they did not create weapons, they exceeded at wrought iron for gates and tools. With silver and gold, they began to make jewelery and dishes, as well as idols and works of art. Eventually, the district grew to house marble sculptures and alchemists. The Mage's district was generally used by the preisthood, but also housed people from other sects. Smaller temples could be found there, as well as practicing Mages in different fields of study, from illusionists to herbalists.

Assets

Through conquest, the whole of Micea grew rich, but most of it poured into Imicea. Warriors brought home the spoils of war from places such as Hain, Gae-Hirach, Avarune, and even as far south as Lakoth. However, they also had extensive trade networks with freindly peoples. The king of Micea also received tribute from other nations in the form of animals, such as horses and cattle, and treasure. The wife of King Theanus, named Ufia, was famous for her collection of jewelry and magical charms which was said to require two whole rooms just to store them. The collection included the famous golden snake armband, a gown covered in pearls with a pearl and silk vail, the Amber Diadem, the Ring of Ufia -- a silver ring adorned with onyx and and moonstones, and a full size golden statue of Liya in battle armor.

Architecture

The architecture of Imicea closely resembles tudor style, or seventeenth century holland.

Climate

The climate of Imicea is generally temperate with a warm rainy summer and a snowy winter.
