Diernum
Diernum was first established as a military camp of the 47th Legion of the Numian Empire. It was supposed to quickly evolve into its own little town, but the advances of the Legion came to a halt as the Lizardfolk tribes provided more resistance than was expected. As such, Diernum, is still a military camp and hasn't evolved very much.
The camp, however, is in a good state, and while the military cannot further advance they also keep most of the Lizardfolk forces from getting to close to Adanum. Thus, Diernum has allowed Adanum to flourish.
Demographics
The majority of soldiers in the camp are human. However, among the military, you can find soldiers from all races and ethnicities. The Numian Military welcomes all, who are willing to pledge their service the empress and to Aerin.
Government
As Diernum is a military settlement, there is a clear chain of command as is usual in the Numian Military.
Defences
Tall wooden palisades have been constructed around the camp. There is an outer layer of palisades and a second inner layer. All along the palisades, you can find watchtowers, equipped with ballistae and manned at all times.
Industry & Trade
Diernum, does not have any trade or industry. As a military camp, it is currently completely reliant on continuous shipments from Adanum.
Infrastructure
Most of Diernum is covered in simple Labessums, tent areas for the common soldiers. There is a market next to the port, where the soldiers can stock up on food and equipment. A fighting pit serves as a sparring arena for the soldiers, as well as a time sink. A Requiessum houses wounded soldiers, as well as a tavern for the thirsty soldier. Both parts are well separated to keep the medical area as clean as possible. Various larger tents serve as storage areas, either for munitions or spare weapons and armor.
History
Diernum, was first established in the year 201 EoL, as a military camp. The initial goal was to provide a forward base for the 47th Legion to push further into Lizardfolk territory. Diernum would then evolve into a proper civilian settlement and become the second town of the Numian Empire on Vrinn Island. However, the Lizardfolk resistance was stronger than expected, and so Diernum remains a military camp, for now.
Geography
Diernum lies east of Adanum. It is placed on a river mouth, which splits the camp in two. Outside of the camp lies the thick jungle of Vrinn Island.
