Numian Military

The Numian military is one of the finest military forces in the world. After the fall of the Council of Light and the establishment of the Numian Empire, its military forces are solely responsible for the empire's expansion over the past 200 years.
The military, however, is not only tasked with conquering new territories, but with securing them as well. In the early years after a conquest, settlements are often governed by the army. In rare cases, civil servants are attached to an army to help out with governance and the assimilation of the conquered populace into the empire.

Structure

At the base of the Numian military is the Teberniae. The Teberniae is a unit of 8 soldiers, led by an Optio officer. There is a second class of Teberniae, called a Magist. A Magist is a unit of specialists. Their speciality is undefined and can vary between Magists. For instance, there are a lot of Magists specialized in Rippers. These are often at the front lines to weaken the enemies and spread fear. Other Magists might be specialized in siege equipment or scouting etc... As such Magists are not attached to a single Centuriae, depending on their area expertise they can be moved around the structure and help out where they're needed.
A Centuriae is made up of 10 Teberniae (thus 80 soldiers) and led by a Centurion officer. The Teberniae are ranked within the Centuriae. The Optio of the first Tiberniae is called a Primus Optio, and usually serves as the link between the Centurion and the rest of the Optio officers. Each Centuriae has at least one Cornicen and Aquilifer attached. The Cornicen is responsible to keep the soldiers fed and their equipment in shape. Additionally, they also take care of the soldiers' wages. The Aquilifer is the standard-bearer and it is considered to be a position of great honor. It often leads to an eventual promotion to a Centurion.
A Cohort consists of 6 Centuriae (thus 480 soldiers) and led by a Tribunus officer. As the Teberniae are ranked within a Centuriae, so are the Centuriae within a Cohort. The Primus Centurion is the Centurion of the first Centuriae and serves as a liaison between the other Centurion and the Tribunus. Each Cohort usually has one Signifer attached. The Signifer is tasked with passing down orders during a battle with a variety of flags and horns.
Ten Cohorts come together to form a Legion (thus 4800 soldiers). A Legion is led by a Lagetum officer. The Primus Tribunus from the first Cohort of the Legion serves the same purpose as the Primus Centurion, and the Primus Optio. The Primus Lagetum coordinates all the Legions of the empire and takes orders directly from The Eternal Empress.
Legions, similarly to the other units of the Numian military are also ranked. A Legion's conquests and renown are contributing factors to its ranking. Depending on their deeds or ranking a Legion can receive a special nickname. For instance, the first Legion is also known as the Empire's Dragons. If the dragons get involved, it means the empire is serious about whatever it is they're trying to do.

Public Agenda

The military's public agenda is whatever the empire's agenda is, which is currently to unite Maelan under the guidance of Aerin to provide a united front against the forces of chaos.

Assets

The military's assets seem to be endless and with the ever-expanding territory of the empire, new resources keep pouring in. The empire spares no expenses when it comes to the equipment of their armies. Their alchemists keep producing Rippers, a type of grenades with a devastating effect, which no one has managed to replicate just yet.

History

The history of the Numian military is nearly as old as the empire. It is paved with a great many victories, but they have also suffered their fair share of defeats, but they always rise to the challenge, just as Aerin intended.
One strategic advantage of the Numian military is its Rippers. These grenades are unknown to most enemies, and thus they are ill-prepared to face the devastating force of that weapon. Before the development of the Rippers, the Numian military stood out due to its superior training and battle strategies.
