Vidento Eight

The Vidento Eight were a group of eight military, research, and government commanders who plotted against the heavy-handed approach of the People's Republic of Lordania from within.   The existence of such a group was highly secretive, yet extremely influential in the destruction of the PRL. It provided information to The Brotherhood that allowed them to launch the attack on the Lordanian Senate, as well as numerous disruptions to the Unitarian supply chains that crippled the fascist regime before it could do significant damage.

History

The Vidento Eight was founded by accident after a bungled raid by Unitarian forces on opposing politicians revealed the plot and allowed many of those targeted to flee the PRL. This led to a paranoid investigation by the Consul, Leonard Percy to identify where the leak came from. The investigation soon concluded that it was internal failure to secure their own private channels that allowed the leak to develop. As a result, Percy placed U'Ovai Villalobos in charge of the Unitarian Communication Division, located in the Vidento Building on Kingston. Villalobos had grown disillusioned by the Unitarian leader's preference of violence and totalitarianism, and so began to orchestrate connections through the PRL of high-ranking figured that agreed in opposing the heavy-handed violence of Percy and his high-ranking officers.     It is important to note that not all Vidento agreed. Many had significant disagreements about how the PRL should be led, for example, the Director of The Institute, Dr. Gauss, saw that the PRL should lead through technology, and through strong executive power with a representative parliament, moreso than the largely pretend democracy the PRL focused on.   Once it became clear that Percy would neither tone down the violence against his citizens, nor make concessions for the sake of stability, this led to a period of distrust and paranoia within the Unitarian forces, which ultimately culminated in the passing of insane, brutal, and repressive laws that the many leaders saw as completely pointless. This soon brought more high ranking leaders into the Vidento, which totalled Eight extremely powerful individuals within the PRL.   In 2275, Villalobos made contact with The Brotherhood and coordinated resistance strikes and refugee migrations, culminating in the attack on the Kikwit Arsenal and the beginning of the Lordanian Revolution.  This led to Villalobos' discovery, who was placed under arrest and scheduled for execution. Thanks to the network of underground support, Villalobos was able to destroy sensitive data, and escape to Brotherhood space to continue coordinating both the Vidento, and the newly developing Visser State.  Villalobos remains the only member of the Vidento formally recognised as an ally by the Brotherhood and its successor state, the Confederate Systems of Lordania.       This culminated in the 2278 attacks on the Tersten Parliament, and the 2279 destruction of the Senate, which led to the collapse of the PRL and the period known as The Interregnum.

Disbandment

Following the collapse of the PRL, the Vidento Eight's existence was almost forgotten. Several of it's members died in the ensuing chaos surrounding the early years of the Interregnum. This forced Vilallobos to reveal the existence of the Vidento and their allies to protect not only their life, but the lives of every other co-conspirators. Many denounced this as a ploy to save face, owing to the destruction of many official documentation. Those aliies of the Vidento who did survive included Diana Ndiaye and William Harrow, who alongside the remnants of government on Lordania, helped to create the Second Lordanian Republic.
