Gaion

The Northern Continent, also called Gaion, is situated to the North of Kaldra Minor; home to thick and forests, rocky mesas, and the largest mountains in Kaldra Minor.

Geography

The Continent is made up of hills, plains, mountains, and forests. Notable places include Lond'la Ridge, Bastion-Oxford Forest, Marais Infranchissable, Mount de Belfort, Gateway to Valhalla, The Frozen Wastes, Xul Swamp, The Dark Forest, Death's Door, and Lake Rjod.   The Northernmost area is frigid and hostile, near inhospitable. Its covered in frozen lakes, rivers, ice, snow, and jagged mountains.   The Western area would be the most prosperous, would it not be for the 3 huge pools of dead land left over from bygone wars. The central part is a huge mountain range called Lond'la Ridge, and it is full of precious metals and crystals. Farther north and west, the terrain turns dark, fog is a common thing, and wolves are a constant threat.   The Eastern area is full of lush land, although not suited for crops usually. Its notable facets include several marshes, swamps, and thick forests.   Mount De Belfort, is also in the Eastern area and is the largest mountain in Kaldra Minor.

Ecosystem

On the western side of the continent, the ecosystem is incredibly lush and inviting, save for The Dark Forest, Death's Door, and Xul Swamp. These areas are remnants of old wars and are formed from alchemical experiments gone wrong. Frequent disasters occur and endanger all who enter.   The Eastern side is much more fantastical, but less prevalent in resources. Fireflies in the day, sightings of creatures of fantasy, strange orbs of interdimensional light and energy that make the area feel like a fairy-tale.   To the North, the land is locked into an eternal winter. Great beasts, frigid temperatures, and scarce resources make this area a hostile environment.

Localized Phenomena

The Swamps of Xul, the Dark Forest, and Death's Door are the most disfigured by old wars and dangerous experiments, causing the flora and fauna there to mutate.   In Xul Swamps this effect is lesser, and its a much smaller area.   In the Dark Forest, however, the creatures are stranger and the ground rumbles and shakes.   In the area known as "Death's Door", there are strange storms, geysers erupt frequently, and there is no life.

Fauna & Flora

The flora and fauna are typical to what you would find on earth. Wolves, bears, snakes, boars, and deer dominate the areas outside of cities - especially on the Western side of the continent, where the area is incredibly lush, save for the areas around The Dark Forest, Death's Door, and the Swamps of Xul, which cause unpredictable changes in the environment and strange creature mutations.

Natural Resources

Forests scatter most of the continent, so wood is the most prevalent resource.   Game is easier to find on the Western side, but it is harder to keep domesticated animals due to the wildlife.   Herding is done over the whole continent, save for Death's Door, the Dark Forrest, and Xul Swamp, but farming is easier on the Eastern part of the continent which specializes in grain and vegetables.   Mining is popular near Lond'la Ridge, due to it being full of precious metals.
