Childhood

Early years

Zoaran Ruchen was born in Eacner Jredde. He was the child of two mine workers, Lozro Ruchen and Zalia Shapter, who were head over heels for each other. They were a happy family who valued hard work and laughter and made sure to instill their values into their precious child, though they did spoil him terribly.

Olav

When Zoaran was 5 the train he and his mother were on was attacked by a Colossi. Zalia died in the crash, but Zoaran was found by a HavocBreaker named Olav Beadon. Zoaran couldn't pronounce his own name correctly and didn't know his last name, so Olav renamed him Coar Oradoal, Oradoal being the name of the train company.

Olav took Coar to live with him in Vullavual Laud as a servant. Olav ran a farm that grew a desert plant used in the drug Mirye. Coar spent most of his time tending to, hauling, and processing crops. He was never allowed to be around when Olav dealt with customers because he had a bad habit of asking too many questions. In the off seasons Olavn rented Coar out to local HavocBreakers as a worker, entertainment, guard, muscle, or whatever else they were willing to pay for. Coar didn't mind as he loved to work hard and his curious nature helped him learn new things quickly. He adapted well to the harsh and violent life of the wastelands, taking on the philosophy that if you aren't useful you may as well be dead.

When Coar was 12 Olav got into some serious trouble with a pirate crew called RazorRoze. Fearful of them cutting him open and pulling out his insides, Olav sent Coar in his stead.

RazorRoze

First Seven Years

Coar was sad to leave his home, but also excited. He'd never been on a spaceship before. He was kept in the cargo hold at first, since they didn't know what to do with him. But eventually the captain, Carah, felt sorry for him and sent him to stay with the ship's doctor, Clarroy. Coar had never seen medical equipment before either and ran around touching everything, asking what it was for and why it was for that. Instead of telling him to shut up and mind his own business, like most others did, Clarroy answered all his questions no matter how silly.

While staying in the lab Coar met VnoiVie, a little girl around 4 that lived in the storage closet. She tried to scratch his eyes out and he was instantly enamored with her, so Clarroy put him in charge of taking care of her. While he was working hard to gain her trust, Clarroy began teaching Coar how to use the equipment. Even letting him assist him in his work.
Touched by the confidence and responsibility Clarroy placed on him, Coar began seeing the doctor as a father figure. Out of respect and admiration he emulated Clarroy by insisting on only going by his last name, though the rest of the crew shorted it to Ora. He also gave VnoiVie a last name to go by and declared her his sister. Since his last name came from riding a train, he gave her the name of the ship they were living on, Roza. The two became inseparable soon after, with Coar rarely seen without Roza riding on his shoulders.

Once he'd established his usefulness to Clarroy, the captain started pulling him out of the lab and teaching him about how the ship worked. He learned how to know when something was wrong with it based on changes in sound, smell, and vibration. How to fly it, how to fix it, how to use its flaws to his advantage and get the most out of it regardless of its state. He enjoyed these new lessons and began to grow close to Carah, slowly picking up on and emulating her mischievous nature. The two would play pranks on other crew members, people in space ports, and each other. Ora felt that if Clarroy was his father, the Carah must be his mother. She seemed to like the idea as well and began teaching him the business of pirating. This by far was his favorite thing to learn, the art of the deal.

Seeing how close they were becoming, Carah's extremely jealous and possessive pilot, Jecce began trying to find ways to get rid of Ora. From trying to kill him in his sleep to 'accidentally' forgetting to secure life lines. Ora, having grown up in the harsh wastes of Diandi Len, didn't seem to mind. He even gave pointers on how to do better the next time. Jecce also picked on Clarroy and Roza though, and that was a line too far for Ora. Because of that, and possibly being a teenager, Ora began to have strange feelings he didn't understand. An utter loathing and hatred for Jecce. The feeling made him physically ill and he did his best to push it away.

Eventually Carah decided Ora needed real world experience, so she started sending him out with Clarroy to run business deals in places she and Jecce couldn't go for various reasons. Mostly Ciarn and Lord Ciwn, two of the most lucrative locations.

The Syndicate

One such outing found them in Lord Ciwn helping an old friend of Clarroy's with a medical issue. There wasn't much that Ora could do to help, so he spent his time comforting the rest if the family. It was during this time fell for one of them, a dancer and assassin named Vichor. Ora and Clarroy spent a month there, in which time young people flirted shamelessly, much to the amusement of the rest of the family.

When not schmoozing on Vichor, Ora took the time to get to know his dad's friend, Darc, and loved the stories he would tell about their time together in school. Clarroy would act like he didn't care, but would constantly be butting in to 'correct mistakes'. Ora enjoyed watching them tease each other. He was having such a good time that he was sad when they had to go back to the ship. So Darc set it up so that the could come for a visit again at least once a year, on the condition that Ora call him Uncle Darc. Though he knew it was mostly said to tease Clarroy, Ora happily complied.

They went for a visit the next year for Darc's wedding, but things took a bad turn when Darc and Clarroy went missing. Darc's wife to be, Chole, was extremely upset and suspected that they had been kidnapped by her enemies. Ora tried to contact Carah for help but got no response.

After nearly a month of investigating, making deals, and threatening people, they finally got a solid lead on where the two might have been taken. The whole family, including Ora head to a supposedly abandoned factory. There they find the missing men, as well as a whole bunch of other scientists and doctors that where kidnapped. Ora began feeling those hate feelings again when he saw the way his dad had been treated by the kidnappers, promising himself he'd get them back for it some day. Ora tried again to contact Carah, but again got no response. Chole, impressed with how Ora handled himself during the whole ordeal, makes him and Clarroy part of the family. After this Clarroy starts calling Ora by his first name, and stops fussing about being called by nicknames by him.

Changes

Carah finally does make contact and brings them home. She informs them that the ship had been sabotaged by Roza in an escape attempt while they were gone. Carah decides to let her go, since she wants to be gone that badly, but Ora is sad that his little sister is gone. In an attempt to cheer him up Carah starts looking for new crew members. The first of which is a kid Ora's age, who went by the nickname Buckeye. He was a huge starrunner enthusiast and pretty much joined the first ship at the spacedock that let him in. Carah wasn't so sure about him but he and Ora hit it off right away, spending hours talking about ships. Buckeye made himself useful as a mechanic and backup pilot. He didn't get along with Jecce or Clarroy though, as Jecce seemed convinced they were trying to replace him, and Clarroy didn't get along with anyone but Ora.

The second was a man calling himself Sparks, who was on the run from the ZaVita Mutuality for stealing a Stardriver, which he still had. Carah seemed more interested in the driver, but agreed to let him stay if he could get them more. It turned out he could do better than that, and also brought in a Skybreaker a few months later. Sparks was a bit of a cocky bastard, but a great driver pilot, and ended up teaching both the boys how to fly. He had a wife and newborn that lived on the Vida Colony and sent them all the money he made, though that lead him to being a bit greedy with his takes. Carah over looked it since his two ships brought them in much more wealth, but it rubbed Jecce the wrong way. Jecce was becoming increasingly problematic among the crew, so much so that even Carah was getting a bit sick of him.
It wasn't long after that Darc and Chole had their first kid, Mabel, making Ora's visits to Uncle Darc's much more lively.

The next two years a pretty good, though Ora still missed Roza, and would wonder off to try and find her often. During a visit to Uncle Darc's he asked Carah to arrive a bit early so he could check around for her in Lord Ciwn. Though Carah doubted she'd be there, and didn't really want her back, she agreed. While he was out looking Vichor decided to go to the spaceport to wait for Ora's ship to get in. He ran into Jecce instead. Jecce had been on the run from Vichor's family for a long time and assumed that Vichor was an assassin sent to kill him. While he wasn't 100% wrong in that, he still managed to catch Vichor off guard. The two had a knife fight and the more experienced Jecce won, killing Vichor. As he was still gloating when Ora returned. Enraged, Ora attacked and killed Jecce with his bare hands and teeth seemingly oblivious to the stab wounds he received in the process. By the time he calmed down he'd torn Jecce to pieces. After this he starts having nightmares and breakdowns, so Clarroy gives him Mirye to help he calm down. Despite his issues and having been the one to kill the previous second in command, Carah promotes Ora to that position.

Several years passed and Ora dedicated even more time to finding Roza. In the process he found Levy Janus. Janus was a young herbalist from the HavocBreaker town of Aeance. She had always dreamed of daring pirate adventures and was eager to join. Her insistance and stary-eyed nature won Ora over and he convinced Carah to let her come along as an extra medic. Clarroy backed him on this, wanting more time for his own projects. While she wasn't very good at the more complex healing methods of Clarroy, she was good enough at making jungle remedies and bandaging the more common wounds one gets as a pirate.

When Ora finally found Roza in Ciarn she ran, afraid he was going to take her back. He gave chase and one of her friends tried to fight him. Once they'd all calmed down he reassured Roza he just wanted to make sure she was alright and had no plans to make her do something she didn't want to. They spent a few days catching up, where Ora learned that Roza had become a singer and was living a relatively normal life. Ora made sure they had a way to keep in touch before he had to go, and promised to visit at least once a year.

So he was there two years later at her wedding with her keyboardist, Hal, and again in another two years when her first child, Jraive, was born. And again two more years later when her second child, Novia Roza, is born. Ora loved being an uncle and tried to spoil the kids, but he couldn't ever stay in Ciarn due to him being an Ovie and a pirate. And of course Carah wasn't fond of his long times away.

Loss and Regret

A year after Novia Roza's birth Carah is ambushed by the Vondren Military. Ora saw the trap for what it was a bit late to prevent it. As he headed out to warn her, or fight at her side, he was stopped by Clarroy. The two had a fight over if Ora should go, ending in Ora storming out. Though he fought hard, it was too little, too late. Carah died at the hands of a man she'd been fighting for years, Captain Adavn Baird. Ora wasn't able to help or avenge Carah that day. Needless to say he was in a bad mood when he got back to the ship. Ora didn't want to deal with his mother's death so got upset and annoyed by the crew trying to decide what to do next. They looked to him as the new captain, but he wasn't ready to accept she was gone. Clarroy tried to snap him out of his mope and make him come to terms with her passing, reminding him of how terrible she could be. This, unsurprisingly, lead to another fight between them, and, in a fit of rage, Ora told Clarroy to go away. Upset, Clarroy began to pack his things, doing so calmed him down though and he went to try again to talk to Ora. But the rest of the crew had had enough of him, and, feeling he was only going to cause more trouble, they tossed him out of the ship, and leave him stranded on the Zavi Station.

Ora finally calms down and realizes that Clarroy is no longer on the ship. But when they get back to Zavi they can't find him. Ora focuses on trying to find Clarroy, not wanting to loose both his parents. Though he spends the next year doing nothing but looking for Clarroy, even getting Darc involved, they come up with nothing. Though he never really gives up, Ora is convinced to move on.

Captain Oradoal

With Carah and Clarroy gone the crew underwent a bit of recognizing. They all agreed that Ora wound be the captain. Buckeye took his place as the ship's pilot while still keeping his position as the mechanic. Sparks dealt with inventory and finding work for them, while he and Ora were still the pilots for the smaller ships. And Janus took over as the medic.

In his time as captain Ora began indulging in self destructive habits. Such as taking unnecessary risks, over eating unhealthy foods, and overusing both Oracle and Mirye. One such risk was antagonizing Baird, now an Admiral. In doing so Ora met Inverno Razorwinj, the only one of the Admiral's pilots that could really keep up with him. At first Ora just enjoyed the danger of near death, but as time passed he began to form a crush on the pilot. The romantic attraction was completely one-sided, but the two of them built a respect and trust for each other as rivals. This carries on through the start of the bug war.

The first few times Ora and the crew come across bug ships they try to communicate with them, not knowing the full extent of what the Qiga'tck'chi have in mind. It isn't until the Vida Disaster that they join the fight. Ora and Razorwinj where fighting relatively near the station when the event took place, stopping their dogfight to fend off the Qiga'tck'chi. This allowed for rescue attempts by the crew and other near by ships. Sparks' son and wife lived on the station, so the disaster hit him hardest of all crew members. They decided to disband and Sparks took what family he had left and went to live in Aeance, Janus followed. They took the Stardriver with them. Buckeye got Ora's Skybreaker and Ora kept the ship he'd grown up in.

Retirement

Not sure what to do with himself Ora went to spend time with his Uncle and his family. While there Uncle Darc got contacted by Clarroy. This was the first anyone had heard from him since he left the ship, almost 10 years prior. Ora was touched when he found out Clarroy's reason for calling was to make sure Ora wasn't killed in the Vida Disaster. So Uncle Darc found out where Clarroy was and the two of them went to pay him a surprise visit. It turned out that Clarroy had been taken in by the Vondren Military and was working under a Doctor named Vear. Right away Ora was not fond of Vear and had a bit too much fun making him uncomfortable. Worried about his dad, Ora offered to rescue him from the governemnt, but Clarroy declined, happy with his lab and work. Ora respected his wishes in that, but came to visit far too often. Doing favors, bringing supplies the government didn't wholly approve of, and harassing Vear.

On one such visit Ora was asked to make a delivery of a small child named Jako to his family in Lord Ciwn. That was how he met Ronwea, the aunt of the kid. She was an mechanic with a temper who fell for pranks much to easily, and he was smitten. After that he started stopping by more often to get his ship tuned up and tease her. His visits became so regular that Jako started calling him dad. He spend the next five years mostly as a traveling merchant, spending as much time as he could with his scattered family and former crew on both planets.

Havoclord

Smile for the Camera by Lengna
Unfortunately the BugWar was still ongoing and taking a turn for the worse. One event that effected Ora greatly was the Attack on Lord Ciwn, in which most of his 'family' died, including his beloved Uncle Darc. After he got himself back together, somewhat, from the loss, Ora convinced Ron to move in with him in Vullavual Laud. They opened a repair and junk shop together and named it after Jako to lift his spirits after all the terrible events.
Since he was no longer traveling about and already had a pull in Vullavual Laud, Ora decided to try and broker a peace between the two ruling HavocLords in an attempt to keep his family safe from their ongoing feud. He managed it and become a HavocLord himself in the process. He named his section Razor's Edge, for his old crew, and began working on infrastructure that would allow it to be run just fine without him, to give him more time to spend with Jako and Ron.
With all the loss and new responsibility Ora started visiting his dad more regularly For advice, to get away from things now and then, and to harass him. But mostly it was for comfort.

Unfortunately, on top of Ora becoming extremely lax and predictable, Jako's actual father happens to be Admiral Adavn. Vear, tired of Ora and in an attempt to get Clarroy to behave, informs the Admiral. Once the Admiral finds out his son is with a pirate, and that pirate regularly visits a government facility, he set's a trap and Ora is pretty easily captured.

Captured

Ora is sent to a high security prison. While in prison, Ora is contacted by Roza, who is worried about her daughter Novia Roza falling in with a bad crowd. Though there isn't much he can really do about it personally, he gets word to Buckeye, asking him to check on Novia Roza from time to time.

Ron manages a few visits and he tells her she can have his Starrunner, if she wants it. She and Jako continue to run the shop. Ora also gets a few visits from Inverno, whom he teases and tries to seduce to no avail. Overall prison life is boring, with nothing much to do but harass old enemies of the crew, flirt with the guards, and play pranks on fellow inmates. One inmate he meets is a young Dejuvi hacker called Epic.

Outside the bug war is getting more desperate. The Vondren Military is getting desperate and needs a few exceptional Stardriver to do a serious of dangerous missions. Inverno is put in charge of the squadron and insists on having Ora on it. Adavn allows it and Ora is offered freedom at the end of the war if he complies. Ora manages to strike a deal, not only for himself, but for Epic as well, since Vivie don't live long in that prison

With Epic and Ron as his tech crew, Ora takes part in several battles. His last battle though is the Battle for Zavi, a carefully crafted trap of Adavn's to distract the bugs and take out a good portion of their fleet. In this battle Ora ends up surrounded and pretty much left for dead. Though he survives, it isn't without a price.

Bugwar Aftermath

Ora goes into a trauma induced stupor that he has trouble coming out of for more than a few moments at a time. Not knowing what to do with him, yet still wanting to honor their deal, Adavn takes him to Clarroy to watch after him. During his stay Adavn uses Ora as a way to control Clarroy, since something had happened to Vear. Ora catches wind of this in a moment of consciousness, and cuts out his own eye in defiance. He doesn't gain consciousness again after that until Clarroy uses the Mindbreaker System to dive into his subconsciousness to pull him back. Its too much of a trip for the old man though, and Ora had to be the one to pull him out instead. It takes a while before Ora is back on his feet and goes to live with Ron and Jako in Vullavual Laud. It isn't long before Clarroy makes Ora a cybernetic eye to replace the one he lost.

It isn't until he gets back home that he finds out that, while he was in prison, Roza died and Novia Roza nearly did the same. Saddened by the loss of his sister he tries to reach out to her children.

Now

Ora spends his time goofing off in the Junk Shop. He is carefully watched by the Vondren Military and Inverno and can't make trips out of Vullavual Laud without supervision, and none off planet.
Though watched, Ora does deal with pirates and illegal elements, and still has a bit of a hand in the power structure of his area of Vullavual Laud(he won't admit it, but he's still considered the SouthernLord).

More recently Buckeye showed up with the Rea, Jraive's daughter, for him to raise, as Jraive has died.

Future

Ora goes to war with the Four Es Corporation after they target whats left of his family. He gets a bit blindsided and ends up having to get rescued by Ron. He loves talking about it to anyone who'll listen. The tale keeps getting more and more outlandish each time he tells it.
