History of Tenglan

(An Imperial Perspective)

Timeline created by Claytus Tome with contributions from my good friend and ex-archivian Ricardo Butler (although I do recommend you accept his words cautiously. I believe time has turned him a little bonkers.)   Please note, this section talks about the history of Tenglan - the homeland of the Imperial Race. If you are interested in understanding the other race's timelines then consult a specialist in that area.

This timeline focuses on the Eras of the kings and not the Queen herself. She has made it clear to me I cannot mention her involvement. Her kings were her great loves, and she won't accept praise for their accomplishments.

I, of course, obey the Queen without question, but without the Queen's intelligence and vast experience in managing a huge region like Tenglan, the kings would have accomplished next to nothing. Everything they achieved was down to her support and wisdom. This is all I'll say on the matter.

The War to end all wars.
    Disaster / Destruction

Next to nothing is known of Lendor Pre-Purification: No books survived that period and the Queen is the only Imperial alive that lived before the White Lord arrived. We only know Old Lendor suffered a slow death. A time of countless lost souls - millions dying through violent yet frivolous territorial battles. Even a King with the ability to manipulate time failed to halt the Planet's rapid decline.

    A Time of Purification
    Celestial / Cosmic

      The beginning:
The White Lord arrives and purifies Lendor, choosing the 5 Guardians from each race to maintain peace and the well-being of all Lendorians whilst leaving the rest of the planet a dead wasteland. Legend says, on his return, he will use the Essence accumulated on Lendor to cleanse the rest of the Planet. Further reason not to waste this essential life giving resource.

    Elista Formation
    Founding

    Elista Flag.png
It is unknown exactly when the Elista were formed, even their own organization seems to disagree on the facts. But, around the beginning of the second century, the Queen decided she needed to be held accountable for her actions and so, for the benefit of the People, the Elista were formed.   The The White Church's Mother Superior selected the first members based on members of the public that had achieved the most in aiding the people of Imperial society. This body of individuals were known as the Generale and are quite different from the Sorce powered beings that run the organization these days.

    A King Dies
    Life, Death

    Guardian logo header.png
One of the alleged all-powerful Guardians; the Riktus King dies. The rumours allege during a mighty battle. But the details of who they were fighting remain unclear. None of the other races claim to have attacked them and the beast-like Riktus release no further details.   His death destroys the widely held assumption that all Guardians were immortal and now archivians are claiming the mysterious being known as the Unicron to be their one true Guardian.

    A New King Crowned
    Life, Death

A new Riktus king is crowned and reports indicate he appeared as if from the skies with vast white wings the size of a house and a golden crown atop his majestic head. I struggle to believe such outlandish claims - Riktus are not known to have such large feathered appendages.   King Augustine, in the twilight of his life, is told by the Queen to forge an alliance with this new king and make sure peace between the races is upheld. A tense period follows forcing the Imperial Queen's intervention curtailing matters from escalating. King Filloch, dies satisfied knowing war between the races has been averted.

Selistene's efforts to raise Battle Balt's profile achieves his desired hope of increasing productivity within Imperias City which then spreads to the outlying towns and cities. Battle Balt becomes a way of life for folks both rich and poor. Balter celebrities are born and people demand to see more matches. Morale of the people increases as they now have something they can choose to support in contrast to the dutiful praise of the Queen and the White Lord.

    Water Power
    Technological achievement

The latter part of Durek's reign he shifts his business acumen to developing Imperias City infrastructure; specifically, the Ronus canal system.   He sources wood from all of Tenglan (and beyond) to create the first shipping network that traverses around Ronus - And thus begins the Barge system that later develops into the sprawling metropolis of canal boats that now trundle around Imperias City.

    Trade Power
    Diplomatic action

King Trevestus focuses his attention on developing trade between the Imperial cities and then expands his reach further to include other races. (But obviously not the Ofrak).   His reign offers no major developments in infrastructure but instead reinforces and strengthens the previous kings' achievements. Although as mentioned previously, the Queen, with her Lord's blessed foresight was instrumental in making sure all the Kings' choices became successful.

    The Power of Inclusion
    Cultural event

Under King Trevestus, Imperial cities boom with prosperity causing knock-on effects to both the Riktus and Fein lands. The people of all races are now able to experience food and culture previously unavailable. This further strengthens relationships between the races allowing the citizens to see each other as opportunities for cultural and economic growth and not just threats to avoid.

    Military action

The races of Fein and Ofrak commence a brutal war over territory. Tensions rise and thousands die on both sides. The nomads living in this battered war zone flee their homes with neither side claiming a decisive victory.   The battle for this land, now known as Eristrad, shows no sign of abating increasing tension between all races of Lendor.   The land - already stripped of all useful resources, has become a barren wasteland offering nothing more than a battle of pride between the two races.

    Innovation Leads Way
    Revolution

In just his first few dozen years in charge, people realized King Cranough Tireste would become a king for the ages. He begins a technological revolution for the Imperials with innovative ideas far ahead of the other races, such as:
An underground network of tubes that sends saved essence directly to Vaults without needing to enter the vault itself.
Enhanced Essence coins made from unbreakable viram and Wizard Glass for homes.
Essence-fuelled vehicles are also invented, improving transport efficiency amongst the barges and greatly speeding up travel between cities - kickstarting a trade and manufacturing revolution.

The ageless Malfus creates the Wizard Guild; a place of learning and progress for Wizards of all races. It is claimed that living in Malfus's immeasurable powers extends one's life. Perhaps there is truth in this assertion, for Wizards live far longer now than they did before his appearance.

    Free Care
    Life, Milestone

Hospital services are developed with advanced machinery, fuelled by essence, to offer faster, cheaper and more reliable healthcare.   70 years into Tireste's reign, free medical care becomes an option for civilians within distance of a hospital. Imperial doctors use these new machines to further understand Imperial biology and increase knowledge regarding Aura manipulation.

The once majestic 8 Pillars of the Wizard Guild burns down but is saved from total destruction by a quick thinking Malfus. Unfortunately, the eighth pillar resists all the wizard's attempts to repair it. An exhausted Malfus eventually accepts defeat and renames the Guild to the less catchy 7 and one half pillars.   Malfus places a black mark on Ransy - the Wizard responsible for the heinous crime. His life becomes forfeit with Lendor's top assassins attempting to claim the contract's prize. RIP, Ransy.

    A Reign in the Making
    Political event

    King portrait.png
Two months after killing Cranough Tireste, Johan Ganay was officially crowned the new king in 819 AP, causing a minor rebellion amongst the people of Tenglan who regarded the former king's death a tragic injustice. Never has a king taken the crown with such Public hatred and violence.

Over recent years, this hatred has abated due to his conflict with the Queen, who introduced the universally unpopular rule of closing down the All Race League and then went on to ban all female Imperial balters.

Ganay used his cunning mind to outwit her Royal Highness and, at the same time, set up closer ties with the Church. His actions saved the ARL and gained him supporters, but many still doubt his reasons, believing them to be self-motivating and not in Tenglan's best interests.   His abolishment of all the developments that the previous king Tireste had started adds fuel to his doubters' fire. Abolishing free health care to fund his military power and increase his personal army has also raised eyebrows. Personally, I am most concerned about his reasons for arming his personal Guard with crown-bankrupting indestructible essence-based weapons, and it is still unclear why the Queen hasn't stopped him.   Questions for a future debate.

    A Call for Justice
    Political event

Kylene Reissus with her rebel bandits
The Queen causes controversy with her All Race League ban and before anyone can react she hits Tenglan with an even more shocking law as she decrees a ban on all women from joining the Royal Guard or becoming Imperial Balters.   The law would have faced serious public backlash if not for the crowning of the unpopular King, Johan Ganay on the same day as her decree.   Her law is swept under the proverbial table for a time as people riot the street over Johan's coronation. Once awareness of the law becomes common knowledge, the true implications spread through Tenglan like a fire through a flock of sheep - Female Balters stripped of their position, forced to become trainers, and existing female Royal Guard demoted to the city watch creates consternation and shouts of injustice from all corners of the Kingdom.   One of The Queen's most trusted Royal Guards, Kylene Reissus, refuses to accept the new order and escapes Imperias City to hide from her majesty's wrath. Kylene builds an army on the outskirts of Imperias City, but nobody knows her plans.

The Queen ignores the protests and provides no justification for her mystifying actions apart from hinting at a danger approaching Lendor and an assertion that all her decisions are based on the safety of all Lendorians.   How limiting women's choices increases our safety is a debate for another day.

    A New Supreme
    Political event

Relix at 20 defeats his father to a duel and becomes the youngest ever Elista Supreme. The Generale resist his reign until he slaughters two of them silencing the clamour.   Relix uses his undoubted charms and debonair appearance to try convincing the Queen to form a powerful new organization comprised of Father Superior's White Church, the Queen's Royal Guard and Relix's Elista. The Queen laughs at the young man's audacity.

    Surprise Contender Rises
    Political event

The ex-Elista Supreme, Relix, is brutally slain and removed from power by Savatus. A man who appeared from nowhere to take one of the most powerful positions in all of Tenglan. The battle's ferocity took the lives of all the previous Generale but some reports claim Relix's father and a former Elista Supreme escaped, but no proof exists.   The Queen and King set up a meeting with Savatus to understand the horrific events before deciding if they can trust the man.   Little is known of the new Supreme but through his generous essence gifts to charity and inspirational public talks the young man gains a rapid loyal following - A trademark that was once the domain of Relix. It doesn't take long for many to accept Savatus as the new rightful Elista Supreme but still others remain wary of the young man.   The Queen shows her lack of trust for the man as she hands responsibility of the Elista Guard to her husband in an attempt to make sure the new Savatus-loyal Generale don't fall out of line. A move that generates concern as Johan Ganay now commands three powerful armies - The Palace Guard, the Elista Guard and the City Watch. Even the combined might of the Queen-controlled Royal Guard pales in comparison.   With Her Majesty's 819 ban on women leaving permanent scars on Imperial minds our Guardian Ruler faces an uncertain future and the greatest challenge of her Tenglan reign so far.
