Native peoples of Helerin
Before the arrival of the Newcomers, the islands of the Helerin Archipelago were already home to a number of native peoples.
Once spread across the whole of Great Forbin, the reclusive Dharo now live only within the Nythran Forest. The city of Nythralla is their only major settlement, and their population is much diminished.
The Norran are a formidable and ancient people, known for their robust physiques, exceptional craftsmanship, and deeply rooted traditions. They are tall (often reaching almost 8 feet in height), and powerfully-built. Their skin is dark blue-black, and their eyes are golden. The muscular build reflects their resilience and strength.
Norran society is highly structured, governed by a strict caste system that has endured for millennia. This system dictates the roles and responsibilities of each individual, from the ruling caste of warrior-craftsmen who govern and protect their cities, to the miners and artisans who extract and shape the riches of the earth.
The Bulgiss are a species of frog-like humanoids, dwelling in the swamps of the Festermere on Teros Major. Historically, the Bulgiss lived in tribal communities scattered throughout the swamps. Following their subjugation by the forces of Tekkaron, more and more have moved to live amongst human and other species in Persothan and beyond.
While many retain their tribal traditions and loyalties as best they can, others have largely abandoned the old ways and adopted new modes of dress and behaviour.
The Fan-Shene are among the least numerous of all the peoples inhabiting the islands, making up less than 1% of the total population. They are similar to Humans in appearance, although they are generally a little shorter, and their hair is always white.
Fan-Shene are unusual in not dwelling in permanent settlements. They live largely nomadic existences, travelling in small communities by boat around the islands of the archipelago.
The Vistrar appear similar to Humans but have large feathered wings and are able to fly. Their skin is lighter, and their hair is often white or golden in colour. They do not grow facial hair.
Their only settlement in the archipelago is the island city of Gastranrar, built into a rocky isle north of Great Forbin. Vistrar only visit the realms of the larger islands occasionally, and rarely get involved in the politics and power-play of the island states.
