The North Region

The northern region of Halruaal is the region caught between the fierceness of the Storm Coast and the the frigid, floating isles of the Isole Ululant.  Here, the vast frozen tundra, the saltwater ocean, and the imposing mountains forged the strong and versatile people of the Northern ethnicity.

Most of the region - save for a smattering of land on the border of the Isle De'L'Est - exist as a frozen wonderland. To the east is a ocean cursed with a frosty mist, making navigation difficult, even for the Nauts. Yet the Isole is even more dangerous. The floating rocks hover perilously close to the ocean's edge and are home to all manner of winged and gill-bearing creatures. The mist itself shrouds the number of enchanted rocks, and their constant shifting pattern makes haphazard scouting lethal.

Only one islands of note exist beyond the northern coast: Kos, the fortress island home to Aenor. The abundance of Wardstone and iron have hardened the defenses of these settlements/strongholds and they are no strangers to the dangers of sea and Mountains. The inland people are not novices to adversity. With the Keilden Forest to the southeast and the Fimbulvetr Mountains to the Northwest, settlements like Egara, Vibina, and PitchHallow are used to beasts and the occasional mountain menace. Because of this, strong defenses and industry dominate the region as innovation and conservation battle with one another.

In the North, two Noble Houses make this region their home.  House Odinson pride themselves on being experts of evocation magic, and control the northern reaches within the Fimbulvetr Mountains. With their raw power they carve out their area with fire, frost, and storm magic, easily claiming the title of being the most offensive based House in Halruaal.  House of Hanover reside west and northwest of the enchanted Keilden Forest. Through a combination of magic and technology they have slowly chipped away at its forests in exchange for advances in metallic and arboric inventions with new transmutation spells.
