Kalimess

"City in the Rift"

The sister city to Lentokk, located only a hundred miles from the capital, Kalimess is far friendlier to outsiders than the realm of the Deepening Pits. However, Kalimess is not without it's own subterranean geography. In fact, the entire city is built into the opposing walls of a giant (and long) rift in the earth. But where the deepening pits are dark and foreboding, Kalimess is actually warm and inviting.   Kalimess is a holding of Lentokk, and as such is ruled by the God Kings. It is populated, however, predominantly by wealthy humans with no direct ties to the blood mages or the Sanguine Order.   Many that wish to trade with the Lentokki find Kalimess to be the most hospitable place to conduct their transactions. Also, though not locally ruled by blood mages, the city still remains a repository of tomes and resources regarding the "darkest Art."   Kalim is home to one of the God King rulers of Lentokk, the mysterious Shalask. As is common with the god kings, Shalask rarely shows his face, and many suspect that he is not human. Rumors have it that the lord is an efreet, who escaped the shackles of servitude to man using blood magic and then fled east to join likeminded magicians.   Kalimess is also the occasional home of the god queen Nahail Krindle. Krindle is one of the few Lentokki lords to have a strong public face, and she attends a fair amount of public functions when she is in Kalimess.   Though Kalimess is essentially a canyon, it is geographically higher than any other city near the coast. In fact, it's walls may have once been a range of small mountains. The Caruma River, which flows to Charport, cuts through the full length of Kalimess on it's journey to Varistane (and the mountains beyond where the river originates). Those who travel the Caruma to reach Varistane enjoy a fantastic view of the opulent buildings and homes of Kalimess' nobles along their journey.   At the lowest level of Kalimess, many traders and shops have been established to cater to those ships passing through the city.
