Orost

"City of Ogres"

Orost, City of Ogres. At Battle Bay. Just south of Lentokk and Kalimess on the continent of Golthien lies the ogre “nation” of Orost. Orost itself is a rather large, if underpopulated, city, which connects with Battle Bay on its western edge, making it a rather desirable seaport… if not for the ogres.   The ogres of Gothenya are similar in many ways to others throughout the multiverse, however they differ in several significant ways. Though quite massive and imposing, they trend towards higher intelligences than rumor gives them credit for. This does not mean that they are kinder, or have adequate control of their emotions (primarily anger), only that they have a higher capacity for strategy.   Ogres tend to travel in packs or tribes, the leader of which being either the most physically dominant, or the best combat leader. Unlike ogres from other lands, those of western Golthien are somewhat organized. No one knows for certain when exactly they took the town they renamed Orost, only that they didn’t have anything to do with the actual infrastructure. Well, other than ripping holes in floors, walls and roofs that didn’t accommodate their massive bulk. What is known is that Orost was once a simple fishing town, and that its residents stood no chance against the onslaught of ogres who seemed to pick their homestead arbitrarily.   Orost maintains an uneasy peace with Lentokk, mostly out of fear for the blood mages and their ruling God Kings. It just so happens that the Lentokki are often keen to hire the ogres as mercenaries to fight in their various battles of expansion. Recently, the ogres have been called to the fore in yet another Lentokki attempt at taking Glointhal.

Demographics

The town is almost exclusively comprised of ogrekin, with the exception of the humanoid slaves they often take.

Government

The governmental hierarchy is difficult to understand, at best. It seems to be ruled by the tribal war chief who descended from the original chief who sacked the town, many years ago. Occasionally, the rule of the town has been contested by powerful ogre mages from the far east, who think they've found an easy target with the assumedly dim-witted ogres of Orost. Every time this has occurred, the eastern ogres have learned a valuable lesson, provided they survived to tell the tale.

Defences

Each and every resident of Orost is tasked with the town's defense, even children.

Industry & Trade

Orost has nothing traditional to trade, however the clans and tribes that call it home often act as mercenaries and sell swords to practically anyone with the proper coin. At least they don't seem to discriminate. However, they have been known to turn on their employers for very little reason, or simply if they think they can get away with it.

Infrastructure

Very little of the original infrastructure still works, assuming it hasn't been smashed.

Assets

There are many valuables to be found within the town, if one is brave enough to look. These valuables consist of the plunders of war and the bounty collected from various raids along the coastline.

History

Once a peaceful fishing town, Orost was sacked by a large ogre war party, who then decided to stay. The town's original name has been lost to time, but many scholars and archaeologists have found references in their research to a fishing town named Calbion, which once stood near or on the spot Orost now occupies.

Architecture

Most of the buildings in Orost are wood, though many have been completely destroyed. Some of the larger "governmental" buildings (the town center and the jail) are made of stone, however. Nearly all the buildings are single story, save for a few residential apartments.

Geography

Orost touches the World Sea on its western edge by way of Battle Bay.

Natural Resources

Orost has little if anything in the way of natural resources, and its residents acquire what they need to survive through raiding and plunder.
