The important events in Crathlian history are recounted here.
Before the colonization, Crathlians were "uneducated barbarians" who fought amongst themselves and worshiped idols of their own making, according to primary sources written by shapeshifters. Various clans ruled the islands, with little central authority. Ancient Crathlian legends (tales of the fae in particular) originate from this time. Very little is known about this period.
The writing of the Aignaoithe Creationsist sacred texts.
Threatened by the naered's success with the human population of their continent, the Council of Elders began an experiment with the purpose of creating powerful human warriors to stand against the humans in service of the naered. The "experiment" eventually controlled the entirety of Crathlia and extended to both mainlands. By the end, there remained very few fully human beings on the islands. Enraged by their treatment as lesser beings, the descendants of dragons eventually succeeded in overthrowing their oppressors by almost entirely wiping out all the shapeshifters in existence at that time.
Shapeshifters colonize a collection of islands, naming it Tír na Creatlach.
Following Torin's death, Seanán son of Bébhionn and Naoise is made the second High Lord of the Colony and orders all male shapeshifters under the age of 100 to be brought to the colony to take wives.
A failed attempt by Lonán son of Colm and Brigid to rally the humans against their oppressors, this rebellion planted the seeds for later uprisings.
After serving as High Lord of the Colony for several centuries, Seanán passes away of natural causes. He is succeeded by Flaithrí son of Nuallán and Ríona, a young shapeshifter of great ambition who is determined to crush the naered.
Flaithrí splits Inis na Elathán (the main island) into North Lautney, South Lautney, and Midland following a rebellion in Firesbay.
Led by Alden Ó Flaithrí, the war to drive the shapeshifters out of Crathlia claims many lives, but their rebellious offspring, backed by the naered, refuse to back down. After 23 years of war, faced with near-extinction and a war on two fronts, the Council of Elders leaves the rebelling humans to govern themselves.
The more powerful descendants of shapeshifters, from both within the islands and the mainland empires, fought for control of the islands. Warlords offered protection in exchange for land and crops. After a century of strife, the Kingdom of Crathlia ruled by Alderley kings and queens was born. It took several centuries for the internal conflict to stabilize.
The northeastern part of Crathlia is conquered by the humans of Caladh Úr (later known as Portnouveau), who did not fight the shapeshifters and in fact were more prosperous under the colonization.
Matthew Alderley the Great, first king of Crathlia, unites North Lautney under his rule, driving out the mainlanders from Alexander's Port and High Valley.
Queen Brigid Wavebreak and King Donovan Alderley are married, adding Dalry Isle to the kingdom of Crathlia.
With the conquering of the two southern islands, Crathlia as we know it today is united under the Alderley crown.
Ambitious Hadrian Alderley challenges his aunt, who had recently succeeded the throne, to a duel of honor and wins the Alderley crown.
After thirteen long years of King Hadrian's reign, the nobility murders the entirety of the royal family and places thirteen-year-old Percival Alderley on the throne.
King Percival is required to choose a bride by his twentieth birthday. After a series of tests to determine the most eligible maiden, Aveline Ashdown is crowned queen of Crathlia.
After centuries of infighting amongst powerful Paragons, King Percival and Queen Aveline instated the Senate, allowing every Paragon a fair say in the kingdom's government. This uniting of the country, alongside a technological revolution, spurred on a golden age of growth and unprecedented prosperity. An alliance with the Council of Elders also brought the kingdom new protections as well as challenges.
To decrease the infighting among the Paragon nobility, King Percival and Queen Aveline form the Senate, the legislative body of Crathlia.
Queen Aveline reaches out to the Council of Elders, offering their shapeshifters refuge in Crathlia under certain conditions so that the naered would not wipe both the aignaoithe and the Crathlians out.
The symbol of the new alliance between the aignaoithe and the Kingdom of Crathlia is finished.
Edgar Clearwater invents the first power leveling test, forever changing the composition of the Crathlian nobility.
A group of working-class Amalgams led by Donovan Fletcher demands rights for Amalgams. Fearing civil war, King Adrian and Queen Seraphina meet most of their demands but stop short of giving them the right to vote for Senators.
The father of future king Leonard, Daniel Whitewave splits the earth around the city of Byworth into crumbling pieces, killing himself and thousands of people.
The Great War begins with Callista Luma Calida declaring herself Empress of the Lumen Empire and beginning her conquest across the continent. Shui Lu declares war on the Lumen Empire. The aignaoithe join the Lumens as allies, followed by the Paragon Aviumi city-states and the kingdom of Crathlia.
I must admit that the name of this era is highly contested, as this is the modern era. But the Great War, immediately followed by the assassination of the king and queen, was clearly the start of a new era of Crathlian history. Time will only tell what the future holds.
In the first battle on Crathlian soil, High Valley is attacked and dozens of noble Paragons, including Duncan Colbreak's parents, are killed.
The first humans to be honored by the Council of Elders on the same level as shapeshifters, the Dissipators kill hundreds of naered.
The allies of the Lumen Empire emerge victorious, and Shui Lu's size is greatly decreased. The naered fall back, gravely wounded.
A group of rebels against the monarchy assassinate King Charles and Queen Isabelle. King Leonard and Queen Alexandra succeed the throne. Unrest has plauged Crathlia ever since.
