Stutd Vorcien
Guild-family Patriarch
Stutd Vorcien is the patriarch of the Vorcien guild-family and has a seat on the Inner Assembly. Everyone calls him Father Vorcien rather than using his given name. He is one of the smartest and most powerful men in Ossa with an extensive network of agents, enforcers, and clients all over the city.
Father Vorcien is in his seventies with a bloated, bent body, deformed from years of sitting and a permanent scaliness to his skin from overuse of godglass. As a young man, he had supposedly been dashing, svelte, and athletic, inclined to wearing forgeglass rather than witglass, which implies he was a fighter. He is married to Johanna Vorcien. He also has nine full-blood children, including Sibrial Vorcien and Capric Vorcien, and several bastards, including Kissandra Vorcien.
STORY
When Adriana Grappo dies, Father Vorcien sends his son Capric Vorcien to Demir Grappo, offering to take on the Grappo as clients. However, Demir refuses the patronage, seeing as it would curb his freedom. However, Demir does ask Capric if he can hire his half-sister Kissandra Vorcien as an enforcer for added security at the Hyacinth Hotel, though he secretly asks her to look into his mother's murder, a task which Kizzie reports to her father.
Father Vorcien's relationship with Kizzie is one of patron and client since she has not been legitimized, a practice that he personally hates. He uses her for information, asking her to report on her findings into Adriana's murder to him since it would prove personally and professionally gratifying to him. He also charges her with finding out about Demir's phoenix channel project. At first she is hesitant to spy on her friends since she has a reputation for being trustworthy. However, Father Vorcien promises to legitimize her if she can bring him information about Demir's successful prototype, a boon she so desperately wants. She agrees, albeit reluctantly.
After General Stavri and his officers are all killed, Father Vorcien and the rest of the Inner Assembly ask Demir the take control of the Ossan armies to fight Grent, depending on his military prowess in the face of losing their bid for Kerite's Drakes. Demir agrees but demands access to the Inner Assembly's spy network, which Father Vorcien grants in spite of his peers initially refusing.
Kizzie later gives her father some surprising news when she discovers her brother Capric's involvement in the Holikan massacre, for which he is blackmailed by Agrippo Stavri into killing Adriana. When Father Vorcien presses her for the full story, she gives him Agrippo and Capric's letters as evidence, though she lies about having seen the Holikan attack orders written in Capric's own handwriting, which she already anonymously sent to Demir. Father Vorcien hopes to keep Demir in the dark about Capric's involvement to avoid a guild-family war. Yet, when Demir finds out, he publicly challenges Capric to a duel, which results in both of them being arrested.
Father Vorcien faces Demir and admits that before Holikan, he did give his son Capric orders to knock Demir down a rung or two since his political and military career had been going too well, though he had no idea that Capric would overstep the margin of such a request by ordering the death of thousands of men, women, and children. Demir does not believe Father Vorcien. To avoid a guild-family war, Father Vorcien proposes that Demir marry Kizzie to forge a guild-family alliance instead, which Demir reluctantly agrees to though he fully intends to find a way out of the deal since Father Vorcien forgets to get the marriage agreement in writing before letting Demir leave the Maerhorn.
