Dorlani Family
The Dorlani is one of the five most powerful guild-families in Ossa. Aelia Dorlani serves as its matriarch and has a seat on the Inner Assembly. Besides their political power over the Cinders and the Assembly, the Dorlani also command a veritable army of enforcers who have a reputation for being the most dangerous in Ossa, and they often commit crimes of extortion and espionage to maintain the guild-family's power. The guild-family has their mansion on Castle Hill. The family's color is green.
STORY
Torlani the Breadman explains to Kissandra Vorcien that he refused to tell the Cinders about Churian Dorlani's participation in Adriana Grappo's murder because to implicate the Dorlani in a crime would be a death sentence for him. Kizzie recognizes the true political gravity of the murder if the Dorlani were truly involved. When Kizzie questions Churian about the murder, he admits that his grandmother Aelia Dorlani commanded him to do it, and whatever she commands, the family does.
Later, six Dorlani agents try to burgle the Hyacinth Hotel by sneaking in through a door left open for them dressed in Grappo livery. They kill a night porter and drug Baby Montego before breaking into Thessa Foleer's workshop to steal her phoenix channel prototype. Thessa manages to rouse Montego, who violently murders all the Dorlani agents. Thessa asks if they knew about the phoenix channel, but Montego explains they did not seem to know exactly what she was working on; they only had orders to steal whatever it was.
Later, Kizzie and Montego face Dorlani enforcers together when they accost Aelia's carriage. Kizzie recognizes the danger of their plan, knowing that the Dorlani enforcers are some of the most dangerous in Ossa. To distract them, Montego and Kizzie dump the six bodies of the dead agents onto the carriage from a tree. This draws the bodyguards' attention long enough for Montego and Kizzie to dispatch them. When questioned, Aelia admits that Aristanes had masterminded Adriana's murder, and that Aelia was simply following the Glass Knife's orders. She then directs Montego and Kizzie to go to the Zorlian Mansion for more answers.
