Aristanes

Aristanes is the leader of the Glass Knife Fulgurist Society. He is also a Yuglid hiding in human society by assuming human form and pretending to be a priest of Horuthe. His formal Yuglid name is the Schemer. He is supposedly centuries old. In his human form, he looks an Ossan native with olive skin and black hair. According to Aelia Dorlani, he is rich as a guild-family and twice as cruel. He and his acolytes have been using the abandoned Zorlian Mansion as a base of operations. He has apparently been plotting the downfall of humanity for centuries.
STORY
The Schemer's pseudonym Aristanes first comes up when Kissandra Vorcien and Baby Montego question Aelia Dorlani about Adriana Grappo's. Aelia admits that Aristanes orchestrated the whole thing and she does not know why he ordered Adriana's death, but she was simply following his orders, suggesting he has immense power over her. Aelia also explains that they can find Aristanes at the Zorlian Mansion.
When Kizzie and Montego go to the mansion, they approach the workers outside and simply state they are looking for Aristanes. Aristanes appears, pretending to be his own majordomo, and acknowledges that he knows their names and why they are there. He leads them into the mazelike mansion to his office where Kizzie realizes that he is Aristanes, not a majordomo. He admits it and without shackleglass explains that he did order Adriana's death because she reneged on a deal they had. She had promised not to interfere with the Glass Knife, but instead she went looking for monsters and thus had to be punished. At that moment, the Tall Man appears, and Kizzie shoots him out on a reflex. This distraction allows Aristanes to escape through a trapdoor.
After Kizzie and Montego kill the Glass Knife acolytes and the Tall Man, Aristanes reappears when Sumala Volos comes to the Zorlian Mansion. He stops her from taking Kizzie and Montego, insisting that their kind must take vengeance on humanity for usurping their world. Professor Volos states she is shocked he managed to recruit the Conquering One, and he insists that many of their kind have begun to side with him. She tells Aristanes to find a hobby and assimilate into humankind instead, like her. He reminds her that saving Kizzie and Montego would reveal her true identity to them, but she counters that their kind has always revealed themselves to humans at certain times. She also justifes her actions, saying that the Angry One would want his killer spared, though Aristanes sneers that the Angry One is dead. He then threatens her, so she insists that her disappearance would prompt her sister to investigate, which would set back his plans for centuries, so he leaves, telling her to go back to her book signing before there are no more humans left. He further insults the Angry One by ignoring his body on the way out.
