Province of Plania

A mix of staple and cash crops Plania produces enough food to feed Solden and themselves while trying to plant the most amount of cash crops out of the land. Plania produces a significant amount of cotton, tobacco, jute, etc. Plania is one of the least defended provinces militarily and is considered to be one of the safest provinces against military invasions. The province is, however, plagued by the houses from the den of thieves.

Structure

Plania is ruled by the farmer's guilds that own the farms. The guilds are split in two major categories, edible and inedible, and have several guilds below that. The guilds pick members to represent their interests and the council decides what lands should or need to be planted with sustenance crops or cash crops. They are also responsible for trying to mitigate the threats posed from the Den of Thieves, but they leave that job to the Evocati mostly. As with most provinces the Republic leaves Plania alone so long as they provide enough food to Solden and occasionally to Vernica. On top of that the Farmer's Council make very few laws that affect the people on a local level meaning most decisions are made by the town and city governments. The Farmer's Council only make decisions on what needs to be planted and acting as an intermediary between the Republic and Plania.

Public Agenda

Plania attempts to make as much money from cash crops as possible while maintaining their autonomy by providing enough food to Solden and Vernica. Plania provides men to the legions, but since there aren't many stationed in Plania most feel no strong urge to sign up and often are conscripted in times of manpower shortages. The Farmer's Council is praised by most citizens because most of the time they are able to significantly reduce the amount of troops conscripted by the Republic.

History

Plania was the first province colonized and formalized by the Republic. The lands were relatively safe with very few tribes of Those of Gaulren as well as not having many orcs in the area. The Republic was able to clear the area and set it up for farming and exploitation rather quickly. The province was colonized mostly by citizens of Solden with very few old worlders moving there meaning it was loyal to the Republic from the beginning. Throughout its conflicts the province was left alone and undefended allowing thieves to thrive in the area. Eventually they became so large they began setting up guilds in the area even in the cities siphoning massive amounts of money from the farmers and their hard work. The farmers began to become extremely agitated and were beginning to be unable to afford to replant their fields and survive. Eventually the Council of Farmer's was formed in order to begin dealing with the problem. They formed militias and began trying to push them out of their cities. The Thieves were caught unawares and fled the cities towards the forest south of the Tarnished Mountains. They setup in those forest and eventually came back with a vengeance armed to the teeth and pillaging the towns. The Farmer's Council immediately requested aid from the Republic and worried their supply of food and cash crops the Republic sent troops to Plania to quell the rebellion. Solden sent two legions peeling them off from their campaigns against Those of Gaulren to destroy the thieves and their hideouts.   As the legions finally pushed the thieves back into the forests and were about to completely destroy their hideouts the King of the First began to rally the tribes and push Solden back. Lotrus recalled the legions from Plania as the threat was dealt with for the time being and brought the legions back north. The thieves realized they needed to do just enough to not warrant a concerted response from the Republic and have ever since been very careful with what the steal and take from the farmers. The Farmer's Council always attempts to get the Republic to deal with the problem, but they only ever send some Evocati to try and deal with it only making the thieves pull back for the time being before they restart their old habits. Occasionally some of the thief houses get brazen and take a massive shipment of goods, but for the most part they are far more sinister taking a 'tax' from the farmers for safety back to the cities with their goods.   The Only time Plania was ever attacked was during the Third Republican Civil War as well as during the Sundering. It is the least ravaged province of the Republic and has never really needed to rebuild after any disasters and as such they have been able to thrive and prosper and are an excellent source of income for Solden.

Agriculture & Industry

Plania attempts to maintain enough food to supply to Solden and themselves while being able to plant as many cash crops as possible to make as much money as they can. The Farmer's Council works to make sure enough food is being produced for Solden and sometimes Vernica to ensure they maintain their autonomy and can make decisions for themselves. The province has done an excellent job maintaining this balance and ensuring enough grain is sent to Solden to appease them. They also sell a significant amount of raw plant goods to Solden to be refined into finished products and is their main source of income. There are a few mines in the area, but nothing of significance. They also have a relatively thriving logging business along the Stippled Coast, but nowhere near the production that Redwater does.
