Province of Albion

Albion refers to two different stages in its existence, the Kingdom of Albion and the Province of Albion. Albion is currently controlled by The Republic of Solden and Vernica⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ as a province specifically under control of Vernica. Albion has had a contentious history with the Republic. Albion was a client state of the Republic around a few decades after the Second Republic Civil War and only came fully under control of the Republic following the Justicar's Crusade. Albion's major claim to fame is its magical college known as the Lunsine College. It produces some of the best battle mages on Gaulren seconded only by those from the Adal Caliphate. Albion is a fiercely independent province and has had a number of rebellions trying to reclaim their independence.

Structure

Albion is a province of The Republic of Solden and Vernica⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ and is thus ruled by a governor elected by the senate. The governor ensures that the rules and laws are being followed. Past that the King of Albion still rules the province. Most of the time the Republic influences the selection of their king. Before Albion became a province it was an absolute monarchy and after it became a constitutional monarchy elected by the houses when the king passes away. The King has control over Albion so long as it doesn't conflict with the Republic's laws and the constitution.

Public Agenda

Albion helps the Republic with legionnaire support, but more importantly they are the source of magical support from the Lunsine College. They are the main force fighting the Daqin Dynasty and repelling the remaining orc tribes and the occasional undead attacks.

History

Albion was founded by a large colonization effort from the old world. The Republic had spent almost three centuries attempting to eradicate the orc threat in the area and colonize it for themselves. The colonists went and established the city of Albion along a river the legion was forced to abandon due to a renewed orc attack in the northern section of Vernica. The orc attacks on Vernica slowly scaled up allowing Albion the time to establish themselves and provide weapons and armor to orcs in return for leaving them alone. The orcs didn't relent on Vernica for close to two centuries before Vernica finally managed to push them out of their lands and noticed the towns springing up under the rule of Albion. Arnak of Albion was crowned the first king of Albion and began to colonize the lands that the orc tribes formerly held, but were too weak from the wars to maintain against the forces of Albion. The Republic claimed those lands, but Albion had already sent settlers and claimed them for themselves. This lead to some border skirmishes, but nothing that could be considered a war, the legions and manpower of the Republic had been depleted from the centuries of conflict and the senate did not want to risk losing a major battle to Albion. Albion continued to clear the lands north of them pushing sometimes as far north as the Vostok forest, the largest center of Orc strength. Albion and The Republic of Solden and Vernica⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ maintained a very loose peace as the orc threats in the area were so great a conflict between the two could lead to the destruction of both of them. The first millennia of Albion's existence was simply fending off orc attacks as well as any other horrors that appeared out of the Vostok forest.   Major conflict didn't break out between the two until The Republic of Solden and Vernica⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ managed to secure the land that constitutes most of the province of Luclana and turned their gaze to the lands of Albion. During the first Albion wars a renewed orc attack weakened the armies of Albion allowing Evander⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ and his legions to smash several attempts at defense against the attacking legions. King Taliesin happily took peace when offered fully expecting to be completely taken over by The Republic of Solden and Vernica⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣. King Taliesin sat back and built his forces back up preparing to reclaim the lands the kingdom of Albion formerly held.   King Taliesin managed to provoke the orcs to fight with each other instead of Albion ushering in the longest period of time Albion had gone without fighting in the last two centuries. He gathered his strength and when The First Republican Civil War⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ reached the climax of fighting and his scouts reported that the legions of The Republic of Solden and Vernica⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ were being attacked by a massive host of Those of Gaulren he took the opportunity to strike and started The Second Albion Wars⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣.   After the defeat in The Second Albion Wars⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ Albion took more time to recover. Many of their troops had died or were taken prisoner in the fighting and the orcs renewed their attacks on their northern territory. King Taliesin would spend the rest of his days fighting off the orc attacks.   Albion was the first faction to interact with the mysterious Daqin Dynasty and the Albion diplomats were unable to navigate the discussions with them and ended up annoying the diplomatic envoys setting a rocky beginning and eventually leading to The War of the Broken Vase⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣. Albion continued with the War of the Broken Vase for some time.   Once the conflict was dealt with and Albion was preparing to deal with any incursions from the Republic they began to get assaulted by renewed orc tribes. They were worried that the Republic would attack them while they are exposed, but in a lucky turn of events they were engaged in the Second War of the Broken Holds. Albion wanted to have this war maintained they gave magical support from members of the Lunsine college established around a century earlier and weapons to Serica to prolong the war as long as possible. Unfortunately for them Vernica dealt with Serica inconclusively and the Republic turned their attention to them quickly after the conflict. Within two years it was found out that they were providing support to Serica and invaded for aiding their enemies. Albion was still deep in conflict with many of the orc tribes and didn't have the manpower to fend off the legions properly. The legions attacked, but in a stroke of luck many of the orc tribes peeled off to attack the Republic. Albion still got the worse end of the fighting and to secure the peace deal they had to cede about 70 miles along the Crelan Spires and more territory they held between the Republic and Luclana. Albion managed to get their prisoners of war back, but had to return those they had captured setting the conflict back to zero almost besides lost land. They were also forced into signing a peace deal for thirty years.    This was actually a blessing for them as they were able to suppress the orc tribes just in time for the beginning of the Second War of the Broken Vase. With the troops just coming off a significant amount of conflict they were bruised and battered, but were hardened by the fires of war. They managed to hold off the initial attack and push them back all the way to Castle Tomoga before securing a favorable peace deal.    There were a few border skirmishes with Republic forces for the next few years, but neither side wanted open conflict. All of the sudden the Daqin Dynasty attacked Albion starting the Third War of the Broken Vase to the complete surprise of Albion. The Republic offered them a non-aggression pact witch Albion immediately accepted to go fight the Daqin Dynasty. The fighting was very brutal, one of the most violent between the two factions and lasted for decades. Albion was pushed fairly deep into their lands and forced Albion to very harsh peace terms forcing them to pay large sums of gold as well as a few other concessions. Albion's army and economy was broken and it was at this time the Republic had recovered from their civil war and invasions and turned to Albion. The legions swept through Albion's armies and forced Albion to become a client state of the Republic. Albion was angered at this turn of events, but could do nothing because of the losses they suffered and even if they did resecure their independence they would be open to another invasion by the Daqin Dynasty.   They chaffed under the Republic rule and were forced to pay tribute to the Republic as well as provide men for the legions and magical support from the Lunsine College. It was only one and a half centuries before the Republic fell into the Third Civil war possibly opening up an opportunity to regain their independence. Many of the households were enjoying the imports from the Republic and were reluctant to back King Amstad the III's rebellion. King Amstad attempted to rally the households by training a noble hippogriff to be his royal mount. When the King went to find the magnificent beast it was found dead with several dead Daqin soldiers in the area. Many households worried they would be attacked by the Daqin Dynasty and there were still legionnaires guarding their borders causing support to falter. Albion remained a client state through the entirety of the civil war.   During the events of the Sundering the lands of Albion were completely swarmed with undead as well as cultist from the machine god. THe cultist managed to take the capital of Albion and promised to help them hold it against the attacks from the undead so long as they sided with them and worshiped the machine god. Facing death or worship of a new god they chose the later and held Albion to the best of their ability. Luckily for them Anton Markal decided to head straight for Vernica leaving the attacking army small enough to hold out and even retake some of the surrounding lands.   The attacks began to lessen immensely after and asteroid crashed into the oceans south of the twin capitals. Albion managed to resecure their lands and most of the cultists left Albion allowing them to reassert their dominance. This only lasted a few years still fighting hordes and hordes of undead until the Justicar's crusades reached their borders and took them over. It was at this time that Albion became a proper province of the Republic.   To this day Albion still remembers the days they were independent and attempt to reassert their independence. Albion is the most rebellious of the provinces and has had four major rebellions and six minor rebellions in the 3 millennia since becoming a province. The Republic has attempted to convert many of the citizens of Albion to further integrate into the Republic to very limited success.
