Lakamhela

Lakamhela (pakríska)

Lakamhela is a city in southwestern Pakróalx, the northwestern province (alx) of the empire of Resak.
At the time of the rexan conquests, Lakamhela was among the most important cities of the lowland Pakrans, along with its rival Efþíxis up in the hills to the east.
Many Rexans come to the city to study pakran philosophy, sciences and other subjects, to admire its art and architecture, and partake in the Ekreliote Mysteries, centered on the worship of the fertility goddess Ekrelú.

Infrastructure

Like many pakran towns and cities, Lakamhela is centered around a ceremonial plaza, around which the main temples, the old palace (now home to the local governor), and covered walkways where merchants sell their goods. This area is surrounded by low stone walls, outside which is the harbour and where most of the population lives, and beyond that are fields, pastures and orchards.

History

Lakamhela is among the oldest continuously inhabited pakran cities, dating back to when they were subjects of the ancient Memnans. Its founding is traditionally traced back to Jaxúkros1, a demigod with the fangs of a snake2, who may originally have been a memnan prince.
After the fall of the memnans, Lakamhela established a few colonies due to overpopulation and crop failures, the most notable of which are the modern city of Temekral and the town of Ebþúka, both in Emlas. The lakamhelans sent a few ships to fight for Pakalos during his ill-fated invasion of Dalra, after which they became major rivals of the city of Efþíxis, before all the pakran land was finally conquered by the rexans and unified into the province of Pakróalx.

Architecture

Lakamhela is notable for its temples, each located on top of unusually steep step-pyramids which tower over the city, and give fantastic view over Lakamhela and its surroundings for those permitted (and brave enough) to journey up there.

Geography

The city is located on the northeastern coast of Úrtal Sea, roughly halfway between Takaxis to the north and Glaxa to the south.
