Gaxal

Gaxal is a town by Gax Lake in southern Pakróalx, the northwestern province (alx) of the empire of Resak. Once the heart of a city-state which rivaled Lakamhela and Efþíxis, the city was already in a decline by the time Rexans conquered the Pakrans, and was reduced to the town it is now as a punishment for heavy resistance to the invaders.

Demographics

Gaxal is notable for rexans forming the majority of the population there, as most of the gaxalese pakrans were slain or enslaved when the former conquered the city.

History

According to pakran mythology, a mountain once stood where the lake is now located, upon which stood an impressive citadel until Ehesapax, strongest of all the pakran heroes, threw the mountain into the sea in a drunken frenzy, leaving a crater which eventually became Gax Lake. As punishment, he had to wander the world and perform great acts of heroism, after which he returned and founded modern Gaxal by the lake.
The gaxalese were among those who opposed king Pakalos' plan to unify the pakrans against the empire of Dalra across the Úrtal Sea to the west, and only sent a few men on his ill-fated journey. In turn, Gaxal fared well during the chaos that reigned after Pakalos' demise, as its army was among the largest and most disciplined on the lowlands at the time, culminating in its victory against the forces of Efþíxis on the highlands.
Gaxal began to decline after that for numerous reasons, and after the rexans razed the city, it remained little more than a town, mostly known for producing excellent mead.
