Pakalos is the most famous of all the ancient kings of the Pakrans in southwestern Laxilþía, and the only one who managed to (briefly) unite the pakrans under one banner.
Originally a king of Banúþra on the southeastern shore of Móþon Lake, Pakalos managed to convince (through various means) the other city-states to form a military alliance in response to the Dalrans capturing pakran colonies in Emlas across the sea to the west. He then amassed a great fleet to invade Dalra and liberate the colonies, only to be caught in a storm on the way, which scattered or destroyed most of the ships.
After finally reaching Emlas and gathering what remained of his army, Pakalos marched to the húlpakran (emlatine pakran) cities, where his cause was met with apathy at best, while in the city of Temekral the inhabitants pelted the army with rotten bell peppers from the rooftops.
Appalled and furious about this turn of events, Pakalos directed his attention then to the advancing dalran army and decided to meet their king Valrakates III head-on, which lead to one of -if not the- largest battles in history. Initially successful, the pakrans were close to gaining the upper hand until the sight of a double rainbow inspired the dalrans to fight on and eventually defeated the pakrans.
While many pakrans fled or -more commonly- were assimilated into the dalran army, Pakalos and his generals were taken to Kilí, the dalran capital. He was the only one in the group whose life was spared, so that Pakalos would live the rest of his days as a trophy of sorts. In one last act of defiance, Pakalos snuck into the wine cellar, drank the king's finest wine, destroyed most of the rest and finally drowned himself in the largest storage jar.
Once news reached the pakrans of Pakalos' demise, the military alliance quickly reverted to endemic warfare between city-states, until they were finally conquered by the Rexans.

Religious Views

As a pakran king, Pakalos acted as a high-priest of his city-state by overseeing and participating in important rituals throughout the year, including ceremonial dances, public banquets, animal and human sacrifices and so on to honour various deities. He also performed rituals such as bloodletting and burning offerings together with his generals in Emlas.
In private, Pakalos favoured Jóxa, god of rain and droughts more commonly known as Jóxas, and often prayed to the hero Gróaxalos, legendary founder of his dynasty. Like many pakrans, Pakalos believed he was protected by a guardian spirit, in his case in the form of a horse with jade swan wings1.
