Efþíxis is a city upon the upper Talran River in northeasternmost Pakróalx, the northwestern province (alx) of the empire of Resak. Despite being relatively remote and ill-accessible for most of its history, and only a modest producer of mead and olive oil, Efþíxis is something of a tourist attraction within the empire, often visited by wealthy Rexans from all over to see famous monuments and experience the local culture1.

Infrastructure

Unlike most pakran cities, which are usually clustered around an acropolis, Efþíxis is spread throughout the hills surrounding the river valley, giving it the appearance of a group of towns and villages rather than a single settlement, connected via network of ancient causeways.
Notable landmarks include the twin temples overlooking the city, built honour the fertility goddess Mokrú and Gróaxalos, legendary warrior and founder of the two ruling dynasties of old; an ancient ball court2, a theater, and numerous stelae commemorating mythical heroes, ancient kings, athletic and military victories.

History

Most of Efþíxis' history is marked by wars against other pakran city-states and -to lesser extent- North Hótics from the east, particularly with the city of Lakamhela after the pakrans were briefly unified under the banner of king Pakalos during his ill-fated campaign against the empire of Dalra far to the west.
The city-state was in decline at the time of the rexan conquests, but taking the city required some of the most advanced and carefully planned military action ever done by the rexans.

Architecture

Most of the buildings in Efþíxis are simple and made of sun-dried bricks and wood, aside from the temples and monuments, which are constructed out of stone and adorned with carvings or frescoes in archaic stylized but detailed style.
