Raptoran Species in Evenea | World Anvil

Raptoran (Rap tore an)

The Raptoran are a collection of tribes that look similar to the dinosaur family Maniraptora. They live throughout the lands of Evenea, though only sparsely on Valoreum. They are well known as fun-loving, friendly, and loyal. They always give their offspring names that they grow into, but try not to use the names of their ancestors.   This reason is because Raptoran names give the power in the form of an extra affinity of a specific type. By giving them the name of a dead ancestor, it causes them to gain an Undead affinity.   That being said, as adventurers, Raptoran are what most people think of as adventurers, mainly due to the advantage they gain from being in a group. As long as they remain with their friends, they are formidable.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Raptoran are split into tribe-like ethnicities, each living in different climates and/or regions from each other.
  • Alte: The Alte are a tribe of Raptoran native to the cold regions of Eveynjar and Valoreum. Appearance-wise, Alte appear as Troodontid maniraptoran, a family of slender intelligent raptors native to North America and Asia during the Cretaceous; the coloration of Alte generally falls under whites, greys, blacks, and light blues, mimicking the color of their environments. Alte can cast the Frostbite cantrip and have proficiency in Arcana.
  • Aspe: The Aspe are a Tribe of dromaeosaur-esc Raptoran native to the alpine regions of Eveynjar. Color-wise, Aspe take on a pattern reminiscent of the aspen groves they call home, albeit with variations of color (generally whites, blacks, greys, and browns). Once per short rest, Aspe can become completely camouflaged if within a forest. They also know the Illusory Script cantrip and have expertise in stealth.
  • Bould: The Bould are a tribe of Therizinosaurine Raptoran native to the steppe regions of Eveyjnar and Valoreum. Bould also know the Lightning Lure cantrip, and gain +1d6 bludgeoning damage on unarmed assaults.

Appearance-wise the Dhashå resemble the Unenlagiidae raptorid dinosaurs, slender-snouted and powerfully built dromaeosaurs. Their coloration ranges from dull greys, blacks, and browns to vibrant teals, pastels, aquas, blues, and corals, looking like the colors of the ocean, swamp, or river habitats they live in. The Dhashå have a swimming speed of 20 ft, have proficiency in athletics and perception checks. They also know the Shape Water cantrip.
  • Linhre: The Linhre are a tribe of velociraptorine Raptoran native to Urrudea and the LSE. Unlike their kin who prefer to live in clans, Linhre prefer to live their lives as nomads, traversing the deserts they call home alongside the beast that they tame along the way. Linhre have the uncanny ability to summon a beast with a cr no higher than their level divided by 4 to fight by their side once per long rest. Linhre also know the infestation cantrip and are proficient in Nature.
  • Mesal: The Mesal are a tribe of microraptorial-esc Raptoran native to regions of Eveynjar and Valoreum with semi-arid regions like mesas as well a jungle (In Eveynjar, this would be Fahliilenjar, the Kalth, and Urrudea; in Valoreum, this would be the LSE, Draiconian Waste, Shacken Lands, and Lokian Rainforest). Appearance-wise, Mesal resemble microraptorids, a group of small dromaeosaurs adept at climbing and jumping (kinda like modern day squirrels or monkeys). During battle, Shalsh Raptoran deal 1 more damage dice with the first attack they make on a specific enemy, at the cost of a short rest. Shalsh Raptoran also gain access to the Expeditious Retreat spell, and gain proficiency in Two-handed weapons.
  • Volcane: The Volcane are a tribe of oviraptorine Raptoran native to volcanic regions across the lands of Eldyr. appearance-wise, Volcane appear as massive oviraptorine maniraptorans with accents of red on their crests and feathers. Due to their relationship with the volcanic environments they live in,Volcane can cast a powerful fire aoe spell that deals 1d6 + WIS modifier damage that burns anything within a 15 ft radius once per long rest. Volcane also know the burning hands cantrip and are proficient in intimidation.

Growth Rate & Stages

Raptorans live a life comparable span to humans, but start out life as eggs, hatching at 90 days and maturing around age 15 or so. Their size, though varies with the tribe. The Linhre, Aspe, and Mesal are of small sizes, growing to a maximum height of 4ft, a maximum length of 6ft, and a maximum weight of 40lbs. The Shalsh, Muttabar, and Alte are of medium sizes, reaching a maximum height of 7ft, a maximum length of 10ft, and a maximum weight of 200lbs (this would be a really fat Raptoran btw). The Bould, Dhashå, and Volcane are the only raptoran to reach large sizes, reaching a maximum height of 10 ft, a maximum length of 16 ft, and a maximum weight of 800lbs.
