Amphibanne Species in Evenea | World Anvil

Amphibanne (Ahmfee bahnyae)

Amphibanne are a race of amphibians that live in the swamps, bayou, plains, forests, and rivers of Eveynjar. Due to their amphibian nature, they are considered to be one of the most unique races of Evenea. They range from the more common varieties, such as the frog-like Ranabane and Toad-esc Bufobane, to the exotic and unusual Leposbane, mud-puppy like Axolobane, and worm-like Caecibane. Like the Scorpaeus, Amphibanne go through multiple stages of life, starting out as tadpole infants, then becoming full adults after an in-between phase.   Due to their amphibian nature, Amphibanne have to worry about drying out. Each subrace has to worry about different problems, but they nevertheless are what they are. Though this is a problem, it also presents a unique bonus. Whenever water is needed as a medium for a spell, they can whip some of the moisture from their skin.   Their skin has other special properties. One is that due to the relative thinness of the skin, they can breathe through it, even underwater. The other amazing thing is that it can protect them from the heatsense of predatory creatures and Naagaea.   Distribution wise, Amphibanne are found in Yllithr, Kalukkenjar, the Kalth, and Hallojar. Though they are often an uncommon sight, they are welcome as performers, often more agile and skilled than most other races. With their high level of affinity for shadow magic, this makes them terrifying assassins, as they often look too cute to do any lasting damage.

History

The Amphibanne are descended from Shacken immigrants to Eveynjar that landed in Zuraor 5000 years ago. The ancestors of the Amphibanne were Shacken that had refused to manifest their draconic powers, and as such their latent magic reacted with the natural magic of Zuraor, transforming their descendants into the Amphibial folk they are today.
