Saurian Species in Evenea | World Anvil

Saurian

The Saurians are a reptilian race that resemble lizards. Native to the forests, swamps, and jungles of south/western Eveynjar and Central Valoreum, these people are known to be alchemists, Thaumaturges, and Spellswords due to their high affinity for restorative and alternative abilities.   The Saurians even move differently from most races. Saurians move their head in jerky, lizard-like movements as well as a semi-lateral spinal movement, and exaggerated leg movements. This also comes with its own benefits. It allows an increase in speed, agility, and perception.   These folk also have a knack for stone magic. This magic gives their scales a warding effect, making any magic this race is resistant to deal less damage than it normally would. That being said, stone magic has a variety of uses, and Saurians know how to take advantage. Most Saurians live in vast large stone communities carved into the face of cliffs.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Saurians appear as lizards, but can vary in appearance depending on the ethnicity. They can be identified below:
  • Gekkosumi: The Gekkosumi are a subrace that resemble short humanoid geckos, with cute gecko faces, gecko pads on their feet, and regrow-able tails. Unlike most of their brethren, they are able to climb walls and ceilings with ease, and due to their sticky fingers, have expertise in acrobatics and sleight-of-hand. This subrace is mostly seen in southern and western Eveynjar, preferring jungles, dense forests, and caves to city life.
  • Scincoropa: The Scincoropa are a subrace that resemble humanoid skinks, with smooth scaly skin, short necks, and regrow-able tails. Due to their short, stocky limbs with slightly short stature makes gives this subrace the rather dubious name of Dwarf Saurians. Despite their short stature, they are adept at moving, being able to dig and climb incredibly well. This subrace has an almost cosmopolitan distribution across Eveynjar, with the rare one making its way to Indeljar.
  • Laterakos: The Laterakos are a subrace that resemble humanoid wall lizards, with rougher scaly skin, more pronounced heads, and long tails. When people think of Saurians, it is generally the Laterakos they think of due to their striking colors and pronounced tails. They are able to climb and dig, but not as well as their skink-like relatives. They are primarily found in central Eveynjar.
  • Varagarna: The Varagarna are a subrace that resemble humanoid monitor lizards, with almost dinosaur-like heads, sharp claws, and long tails. What truly makes Varagarna dangerous is their poisonous saliva, which causes damage over time when they bite or smear it on their weapons. They are also the most adept saurians at movement, having notable swimming, climbing, and burrowing speeds. They are primarily found in southern and northwestern Eveynjar.
  • Anguirga: The Anguirga are a subrace that resemble humanoid glass lizards, having severely shortened or completely lacking legs and long bodies. Due to this feature, they are often called Eel Saurians and can wriggle themselves into crevices of a foot in diameter if need be. Also due to their shortened or missing limbs, they are known telekinetics, using telekinesis to interact with tools and other objects. They are primarily found in western Eveynjar with individuals often being seen in Urrudea, Yllithr, and Kalukkenjar.
  • Chamafrani: The Chamafrani are a subrace that resemble humanoid chameleons, having prehensile tails, horns and frills, and eyes move independently of one another. The most interesting things about Chamafrani are their skin and their tongues. Their skin acts like that of actual chameleons, and shows their emotions and allows them to hide with ease. Their tongues are also like that of chameleons, being able to shoot out and hit objects with great speed and precision, however when they try to speak, it always sounds like they're talking with their mouth full. Like their namesake, they are incredible climbers, but they also move much more slowly on the ground. They are primarily found in Hallojar, Fahliilenjar, and Urrudea.
  • Agamiring: The Agamiring are a subrace that resemble humanoid dragon-lizards, having spiky scales, horns or spines or frills, and other unique characteristics depending on the individual. Though they resemble their brethren the Iguanacalan, they have strong legs they give them an edge for running, swimming, and climbing objects. Due to their skin, they have an increased AC, and any creature that makes an unarmed attack or grapple against one takes 1d4 damage. They are found primarily in western Eveynjar, being prolific in Urrudea, Fahliilenjar, and Kalukkenjar.
  • Iguanacalan: The Iguanacalan are a subrace that resemble humanoid iguanas, having large, lateral spines and long tails. Males have massive dewlaps on their necks. Iguanacalan possess muscular limbs, allowing them to climb and walk with ease, even being able to swim, though not as well as their monitor lizard cousins. They are most common in Yandaijar, Hallojar, and Kalthinjar.

Growth Rate & Stages

Saurians grow quickly, reaching adulthood at the age of 10 and rarely live for much longer than 70 years. Overall, saurians are generally medium in size, but can be smaller or larger than medium due to their resemblance to their squamate lookalikes.
