the northern isles kingdom

born out of migration and war the northern isle kingdom was settled by sverkans and norgans. possibly the only human nation not to fight the old races during the The war of Men and the 'Old' races the northern isle is the smallest of the nation but one of the most dangerous.
the people are known for there hardness and master meant of the cold northern seas.

Structure

the two main island are rule but one king each normally brothers of is there is no other brother a cousin and in extreme cases a sister. On each of the island there is a noble class who answer to both king and co-king. All these men share the same title of jarl.

The jarlthing is the main political body besides the kings. One of the oldest human organisations the jarlthing acts as a parliament of the isles where all are equal and all no matter how small may speak. It comes from the thing a local council or assembly which exist all across northern society 

There are also important titles which the king can hand out

Riksjarl of the chamber 
Riksmarsskalk (royal marshal the equivalent to the lord constable of empire 
These titles are the equivalent of the impieral council during the kings mediveal age

Public Agenda

the upper classes in the islands want to become the sole power in the north and want to unit there lands with that of the northern badlands and the rebellious region of heilgoland in the verianberg empire.

Assets

in the northern sea the northern isle is the main naval power and has the second largest navy in the northern continent.
they also have a very professional army made up of 100000 men at anyone time.
the none naval ships are also well known there wooden long ships serve as the nations merchant fleet.
the black library is in the capital of sverka Preunsgard and was built by beowulf 1st. it was built to harbor all of the knowledge the dark king had and it inculcated ancient books with a runic language that had been left by the dark spirit which inhabited his body. 

The library is bound to the blood line of Beowulf so only those with his blood can enter. It is also cursed with those wishing to use its powers first having to undergo a ordeal and if they chose to go down the path of using the knowledges they must give up what they yet do not have. 
built around 1200YBCW the skaldic school of vasaborg is the most pronoun musical academy in the known world. original set up to help skaldic poets and singers of the northern isle the school was opened to the international community during the regin of George olinberg 1st. with this the school began to develop into a massive musical acadamy for higher learning. its fameis on the same level as Imperial Ballet company

History

Before men- the dark damn forest covered isles of Sverka and Norga had been subjected to myth and mystery since the days the Blair's came into being. An explorer Visited the isles and on his return said only creatures of elements strength could live there for any length of time. He also found the isles had a very strong magical stenghtblike magic and mysteriousness clung to the islands

The black princes kingdoms- after his and his followers exile prince caraden sailed north and founded a kingdom on the isle of sverka building his capital caradenera or caradens hall.

The elves would leave the isles tearing down everything they could not take everything with them (save the tombs for f the dark powers caraden had summoned Perhaps hoping he could retun but he never did) and leaving no trase leaving the isles once more to nature.

Early history-the people which ventured to the northern isle were the hardest of the humans. the two ethic groups which settled the isle were the sverkans and norgens and they came after the events of fengier the guardians. the house of olin had found an ancient tomb where there leader lord beowulf asked for his power and in return the dark spirit which inhabited the tomb would be allowed to leave in the lords body. to this day the being is not know. beowulf became king of the sverkans and declared the kingdom of sverka. he married a germinc merchant and she had him to take the name olinberg.

Under the cover of the dawn star on an old abandoned mott (created by the elves of Prince Caraden and abandoned during the great chill) Beowulf founded the settlement of perunsguard

However he found that dark powers still lingered in the island he found an ancient tomb and communed with the dark spirits there. They offered him the power of his gods to help him in his wars against the other chiefs. The black library became his new weapons, he with help from the dark spirit in hem established magic cults who used ice magic.

The spirits belived they could corrupt him but Beowulf was cunning, using magic and the power of binding he sealed the new black libary to only those of his bloodline and made it so that the sprits where bound to its dark depths

A curse lay upon the knowledge however that whoever dared used it had to pay a price unknown till it was to late.

the dark lord and the wars of unification- king beowulf 1st know as the black king on sverka created a massive fleet and sailed east to find the norgens. they themselves had formed a republic of the noble and tribe family's. beowulf brought with him a massive army of soldiers and magicians. but the norgens had there own great leader another warrior but one driven by knowledge. the resulting conflict know to the northern isle as the brother war resulted in a treaty where king beowulf and the lead of the norgens know as rolf the strong would rule as twin monarchs but the title of king would belong to beowulf. Olaf would take the title co-king but only the kings decedents would rule as the next king and co-king. but the two peoples would be equal. however beowulf would also serve a master and olaf apprentice with beowulf teaching Olaf the dark powers he knew. however at this time not all of the norgen islnd was under his an the co-kings control (it is almost important to mention that no all of sverka was under his control either with much of the west of the island laying out with his control) . also some of the smaller islands where ruled by petty kings and lesser lords. beowulf wanted first to use diplomacy but it failed. he also knew that sea elf long ship could try and take these islands know that they where going to provide trade links. so beowulf an co-king olaf along with there sons went to war to unit ll of the lands inhabited by sverkans and norgens alike. however this would be easier said than done. on sverkan beowulf's brother godfred marched north to take the mountains and established a base for himself to settle the land. beowulf youngest bastard son tyr sailed with 200 men to isle north of sverka to establish a base there. beowulf ordered smaller lords to take land from petty kings and rule as jarls but what ever land thy took by themselves they would rule, olaf told his jarls on norga to do the same. but in 4930YBCW beowulf died and his legitimate sons Christian (4981YBCW) (isw is alos said to have married a selkie princess) and Fredrick (4978YBCW). it is somewhere in beowulfs regin that the legend of the selkie war happened, it is belived that the selkies invaded with the help of a great black fleet, these masters of suduction and maniuplation ravaged there way across the isle and only with the help of the sea elves (known to the isle men as Belzafolk) to help them drive them off.
Christian 1st and co-king Fredrick 1st-
Christian 2nd and co-king olaf 1st and the harrowing- after the death christian 1st at the age 51 after only 2 years of reign his sons christian (4962YBCW) and Olaf (4960YBCW) became king and co-king and there youngest brother sitric was named jarl of algaford. all three brothers had a strong bond but quick that relationship began to sour. the first cracks in the relationship where shown when wolf headed longship appeared on the eastern coast of norga and attack small jarls and petty kings. the savage tartan clad warriors burned the wooden walled settlements. sitric was sent with a large army to stop the invasion and was promised land on norga if he defeated these invaders. he was able to push them back with great trouble, mean while his brothers got other jarls and petty kings to join there kingdom. then after sitiric returned his brothers told him he wasn't able to get the land Supposedly because it would make them look power hungry but mostly because they wanted the land themselves. all sitirc was given for himself and his men was a small amount of money. next Sitiric and many other minor lords where forced to pay a massive amount of new taxes. after this sitirc was forced to send troops to his brother to fight the strong norgan petty king reginherus red hair. his people where sent in the front lines of battle and out of 100 men he had sent only 10 came home. after this horror sitirc started to grow a power base of alliances. meany smaller jarls within the kingdom and out with joined him angry with the king and co kings actions. however what he began to realize was that no matter how many lords he swayed to his side he was outnumbered. so he sailed east to find the men who had raised his shores. he came to several wind swept islands ruled by ruff looking lords whore wore tartan woolen clothing. there longships where a kin to that of the norgans and sverkans but instead of dragon they had snaring wolf heads. by marrying the most powerful lord in the areas daughter in order to gain his support. after years of pain staking preparation sitirics was ready. at the olinberg family feast all of the olinbergs where there. the king and his 5 child along with his wife. the co-king his wife and his son and sitiric and his family as well as jarls of the realm and forgin guests. coming to the end of the guests sitirc raised his family then nodded. that was the signal to his men. the doors where barded and then swords where drawn and bow strung. the first to fall was christian 2nds second son bjorn (4938YBCW) when his throat was slit by a jarl loyal to sitiric. the next to die was christian 2nd eldest son Christian (4941YBCW). he had killed three men before a shaft was put in his back then and axe was plunged into his back. king christian drew his sword killing a man charging towards him then turned to see sitiric slitting the queen throat. the next to fall was co-king olaf and his son karl fell followed by the co-queen. the rest of that night in 4902YBCW the royal family where all killed. however not all the royal children where dead christian son of christian 2nd sons Bjorn and sigerd had escaped.
a kingdom with no king 4902YBCW-4897YBCW- after the events of the harrowing Sitiric attempted to crown himself. in the capital his supporters did crown him sitiric 1st but the lack of co-king ment there was a massive problem. in norga there was know a power vacuum and was soon broke out. Sitirics army of sell-swords and loyal lords wasn't enough to stop the tide of enemies know rebelling and attacking his boarders. after two year 4900YBCW dawned the kingdom was in ruins. Sitirc attempted to beat off the rebels with is allies and his own troops but his enimes where to many. many nogan lords rebels and raids from the east continued. from there place in exile the supporters of the brothers Bjorn and sigurd made there plan. from there exile in the kingdom of the ice coral crown (a sea elf kingdom) they planned. they secured the loyalty of the petty kings of the north eastern isle ( the southern islands of nroga known know as new revanina) supplying them troops. this was down by marrying bjorn to a daughter of the most powerful of the petty kingdoms. mean while in 4900YBCW as spring camp a great spring army arived from the east under a man by the name of Ri Mac Bethad (king macbeth) they pillaged the easter coast of norgan. they swept there way south capturing the entire weastern part of norgan king all the local lords and enslaving all those living there who had not been kiled.

revani invasion of the southern isle 4880YBCW- led by there king Etor 1st of House of Morwentar sailed an army of 1000 north to establish bases on islands in the frozen northern sea. the small tribal leaders and pettry kings stood no chance against the steal Armour of the morwentar heavy infantry.

The reign of Arch-kings- after King Magnus's great raids and the establishment of his arch kingdom many second son bastards and lesser jarls wanted there own lands. Many of these men had soldiers at there disposal and many set sail in search of land a glory. These arch kings help the northern isle build up a trade network with other eleven kings. Many of the arch king worked as mercenaries and pirates again other elves or in some cases other humans.


the war in the east and the final unifiaction of the kingdom under Ingvarr in 2597YBCW-
revers and rapist the early history after the war of old races- The northern isle didn't take part in the war of old races as they had Benefited from trade with the northern elf kingdom but when elven refugees came they were sold into slavery by king Christian the 9th and co-king Olaf 9th. but know the northern isle had a strangle hold on the the northern seas and exacted that power by raiding the northern coast of the verainberg empire resulting in the iron war. they also turned there sights east to the frozen lands of the wolf kin and began a war a kin to that fought between the badlands and the tsar.

Harald 1st and Ivar 2nd-in 1782YBCW Harald and Ivar's first invasion began seeing all of the northern march the duchy of heligoland and northern parts of the lands of the crown becoming part of a new kingdom of verainberg under there brother sven.
they also held the ambition of holding land on the continent and reuniting with there heligoland kin. this time period however saw the creation n of the runic dynasty named after the old svkeran war ruins the men of the family had carved into there hair. around 1400YBCW they migrated with all there people in a fleet and sailed down river into the lands of the northern tsardoms.

corvan Haraldsson and the rule the darkwyrd king- at a young age the crown prince corvan traveled to become a warrior, to get away from his abusive father king harlad 1st. however word of his death spread after a raid had taken place on the shores of frank. his blue ravens became some of the most famous mercanires in world. they fought on behalf of Rudolph Von anerian 1st in Harald and Ivars second invasion of verainberg. after the war the ravens returned home and it was uncovered that the crown prince had faked his own death. he killed his father and uncle

Eirikr 1st (born 1737YBCW) and Hallbera 1st (the rebirth of an empire)- at the age of 23 Eirikr sucseeded his uncle king Guthrith olinberg 1st becoming king. his uncle co-king Ivar olinberg 3rd died in 1712YBCW making his older couisn Hallbera (born 1750YBCW) as co-queen Hallbera 1st. having seen the famliars of his family members in fighting in the south he decided to turn his attention east to the northern badlands. to keep the option open he began secretly telling his eldest son thorvald (born 1720YBCW) that he was the rightful heir of the duchy of heligoland (Eirikr was married to gunhild olinberg hallsberg the sister of the duke of heligoland.) Eirikr first began the constuction of a greatship building yard in his capital. the ship yard was built on desgins he had taken from the twin sultanates. withn three years it was built and contruction of a massive fleet began. these ships where not just longships but ships based off of southern warships. he began raising and training a corp of warriors. after another two years he had raised an army of 2000 profestional soldiers and a war fleet to carry them. his plan was to sail east and not just counqer the east but the entire badlands. in 1707 he set sail on the summer seas. he quicly took control of the isles of the east building his launch pad for the invasion of the main land. he spent a year on the islands and gathered more men to him. he took 4000 men and made his way to the main lands pushing his way east. he wasw undefeated in battle and fought all the way to the city of wolves. his jarls did the same and in 1705YBCW he took over the entire the northern badlands and in the city of wolves had himself procalmed the wolf king having all the clan chiefs and lards of the the land declare loyalty to him. he left a garrsion of 5000 north men with the promise they would be used on the southern boarder to fight the tsar.

in 1701YBCW eirikr raised a massive host and ignoring the wars of his uncle and grandfather deiced to strike quick. he with a picked group of 300 men seized Hells-lanading taking his in laws prisoners. this allowed for his massive host of wolf kin clans men and northern warriors to land in hells-landing. Eirikr made a quick move. instead of aim for the impieral capital like most other general he aimed to cut off the main bread basket of the empire. with an army of 10000 men he sailed down into the duchy of Szlski. this would force the impieral armies west while eirikr could sent raidiers down the smaller rivers as well as The river of kings and The dranavan river and keep more impieral forces in garrisons.
in 1697YBCW with the death of the mad emperor gerhard 2nd he peace of krakow was signed where heligoland would be retained by duchess Gunhild who would share it with her older brother Varen onlinberg-hallsberg 2nd making erikir joint duke with his brother in law. in 1695YBCW erikir crowned himself the king of winter and proclaimed the union of winter in Hells-landing. as part of the peace eirikr sent 3000 of his best troops along with his son and heir Thorvald to help emperor Alerik in his wars in bron. in the mean time he spent his time nitting his realm toghter. his daughter married the grandson of Jarl Guthrum Reginherusson {Arnulf Rauffenberg}, guthrum 2nd (the first duke of derkhoff and warden of the north) eirikr's rival.

the rise of the northern isle and the serpents of the north- the war of the three empires allowed the northern isles to master the northern seas and become the most powerful naval power in the region. then attempted to build permanent bases on the the lands of the northern badlands
the 18 years war and the death of 3 kings- the 18 years war began when co-king Fredrick olinberg was declared by his daughter duke of heligoland. however Wilhelm hallsberg 1st had declared his youngest grandson [Duke Michael Rastov. northern forces smashed aside the fleet of Wilhelm's second son prince garon and then his army. they over ran hells-landing and charlesdht and marched on the Imperial capital. after there victory at anerianberg the new emperor Vasily 1st asked for peace and a duel rule in the duchy was established. the second phase of the war. Hans olinberg 3rd went to war to help his relatives Duke Gustavus olinberg and Co-king darian olinberg. after defeating the forces of the emperor Hans was declared emperor of verainberg and the first ruler of the empire of the house of olinberg in telta and The Duel monarch of the isle and verainberg was established. however after the battle of the graveyard of kings hans and darian were killed and han's children succeeded him. however Goerge 1st and his sister co queen helga were children and the duel monarchy fell apart after the regent of the verianberg empire Michael squeezed the olinberg loyalist out of the lands of magara.
the reign of the spring lion- George olinberg 1st was made king after his father died in battle during the 18 years war. his child hood was surrounded by a regency council. his reign coincided with the the beginning of the grand military revolution . the young kings sister came of age before him as she was 7 years older than him took him under her wing and began to teach him. at the age of 12 he began to take an interest in the wider world of politics and military affairs. at the age of 14 he sent designs for regimental gun for the army. he also began to studies in the black library on svekra and unlike his father be saw it as a useful power and he became a powerful magician at the age of 16 he took total power and he immediately began to reinforce the badlands colony as he knew his governors and regents had began operations to leave the colony. he pushed back one attack at the age of 16 and he was heralded a great warrior king. he himself made sure the colony remained firmly in his hands. his enemy's eyed his reforms and his power as a threat and they created the alliance of the wolf to attack him and push him from the badlands. they were defeated by his guns and his skill at the battle of olinhem. he had taken Manfred Hallsberg 1st hostage and kept him prisoner until the former regent know prince micheal rastov (who was 52 at the time) was forced to pay him in order to get the emperor back. the battle was nicknamed the battle of the lions (due to the fact that the troops were said to have fought like lions to hold the line) and george was named the spring lion. the handsome prince was much loved through the realm and he was know to blow kisses at the girls of the realm. he became a celebrity around the world and in order to win the knowledge the sultan asked the king if he would marry his 18 year old daughter. Georges sister demanded that he should but he was king and he would make the decision. the king was wary about this. he didn't want to become a pawn in the sultans game with his enemy. he also however didn't want to plunge his realm back into war and infact lacked the resources to go to war again. in this phase of indecisiveness he worked on bettering the realm investing in the farm lands. finally he married the sultans daughter in Mohammabad when he was 29. the marriage was contrary to belief was loving and the young queen quickly gave him two sons twins Andrew and Darian (born 438YBCW). he continued to reform the state and military. he strengthened the defenses of the colony but was forces to give back land due to the heavy cost to keep a permanent presents in the area. under the king and co-queen the kingdom remained at peace and was able to play enemy off one another. the king was kind and well liked often helping till the fields. infact the king had his own farm which he kept and would go to the local markets and sell of his livestock. his sons however didn't share his nature. both were spoil and brats who were bullies to the other children of the court. in order to rebuild there shatter economy George looked to Bank of the 5 lords and the republic of san antonia who loaned him money. this stabilized his economy which was stretched trying to modernize the army and rebuild the state. he was able to pay every loan he took out. when the co-queen died at the age of 54 (430YBCW) of a STD the king and the realm was distraught. a day of morning was held in all the realms under the king. the governance of norga fell to a co-regency council made up of the king and several prominent norgen nobles

. some used this to oppose the kings rule and the presents rebelled. George put this small rebellion down and sent the army to occupy the island.
In the wake of this rebellion would come his longest lasting legacy. He abolished the title of co-king instead darian was named the first king of norga the state would no longer be a based on a greater or lesser kingship but instead a partnership of equals ruled by one family. A seperste jarlthing was founded in carleon and for this George would be greatly praised. when George was 50 he proclaimed that the new fleet had been established. it was modern and larger than the verianberg imperial navy. however he wouldn't live to see it used as when visiting his farm he slipped and cut his hand the wounded went septic and he died.


andrew 2nd and the contiunation of the gerogan conquests- after his father died andrew wish to continue the legecy of his father. having served in the army as a captian in a infantry regiment. alongside his brother king darian of norga he pushed the conquest of the badlands. he soldified his control

ulrick 1st and the ulrickan war - the name ulrick 1st would become famous for the greatness of milltary commander. but it would be in his regin that once more the isle bid to become a continetal power would fail. upon the death of his uncle ulrick was named joint monarch of sverka and norga with his wife the new queen helga. under him a new army would be forged. these would be the main famous for wearing the blue and yellow. the ulrickan army as it would be nicknamed was the tool which he wished to forge. it would be based around his own halerstine army with a corp of its officer being germinc anf verainbergur imagrents. 
in 346YBCW while hunting on his estates the king feel from his horse injured and would die leaving his 15 year old son as heir to his high emburden realm 
karl 3rd and the catstrophe of peruns-kin - in the opeing moments of his regin it would not be the 15 year old karl who would take point but his mother the dowager queen helga. 





Hans olinberg 4th - the war between father Frankish and the verianberg empire drew hand and harald into it as part of there alliance with there kingdoms long time enemy.


Harald olinberg 5th- the alliance between the Frankish and the isles thanks to the marriage of king Harald and princess tella as well as king ulrick and princess meria saw the isles drawn into the war of the duel alliances.

The nobleman's war- in 227YBCW gustav 2nd and king Harald 3rd where crown monarchs the brothers however where very young. Both very politically week. The two factions in the isles broke out into war. The jarlthing paralyzed due to the lack of funds and the crippling cost of the navy and army sunk the isles into war.

The great reforms 47YBCW- in the wake of defeat and rebellion in the years of shame king Karl knew reform would have to be put in place to fix both his state and his armed forces. however in 48YBCW while examing the ship building yards in carelon they fell when a guard rail gave way. in the wake of there death. the new kings Thormond 2nd (born 60YBCW) king Harald (57YBCW) became rulers. these two young nobles had seen the state the army had been in during the failed invasion and then rebellion decided to overhaul the entire thing. first the bright yellow and blue unifroms where scrapped infavour for a drab grey uniform with felt cap. millions of kilmar where spent on Starlandsdht armourers to desgin new weapons for the everyday infantrymen. new tatics where overhauled designed on fighting mainlands wars. the infatrymans armourments where changed. all men in 45YBCW where given a new starlandsdht rifles. these replaced the armies smoothbore muskets. the guns where also shortened to make them later. men where also given sword bayonets unlike the mainlanders who stuck with there plug bayonets. men where also given the universial army sword. a medival style hacking and slashing weapons, with officers being allowed to take one or to use there own. the peace time army was slashed from 70000 to 50000 to cut coasts which angered much of the nobility with there son lacking jobs but this was quickly rmeined by the explotion of heavy indaustry which was needed when the kings announced the massive naval rearmament. this came intime to send soldiers and ships to be part of the international enforcement organisation in san antonia. the first 5000 soldiers came from the newly formed konungrguard (kings guard) regiment, with a small squadron of new ships.
while the fleet was still the largest in the northern sea, it was begining to fall behind. so more and more was pushed into creating and building ship yards. suddenly the kingdoms navy and merchant marine expolded
new allies- 27YBCW saw trouble rising on the continet once more. the northern isles had become the second largest arms exporter on in the world behind the sultan. the Starlandsdht armourers where givin milliions of kilmer to invent and produce new weapons. the largest importer of there weapons of the brentin army and the army of kingdom of the great exiles. the dark elves also bought many new naval vessals inculding two new ironclads which they renamed them the Aniran and the Rihar. the three island nations formed into a unspoken allaince brigning. with there links ot the sultantes the northern isles found it self in a very secure geopolitcal posistion. the opertunity to use there new weapons came when in 27YBCW the frankish kingdom invaded the mercanary coast.

while the fleet was still the largest in the northern sea, it was begining to fall behind.
the new age of war 9YBCW- under Brodir olinberg 2nd born 33YBCW hundreds of guns began bombarding the coastaly defenses of the empire. after three days of naval bombardment the men of 2nd corp stomred the massive coastal fortifactions of hells-landing.

Demography and Population

the north nisle kingdom is made of of 4 main poloties. these are the island of sverka in the west, the isle of norga in the east, between the two is the black isle and south of norga lies new revanina.the two largest islands norga and sverka have the largest populations and hold the most resources. the other islands are less dencly populated. many of these smaller islands are ruled by local lords normally relatives of the royal family. they are expected to take taxes and rasie troops by them selves without help from the capital.as of 10YBCW about 8 million lived on the islands,sverkans make up 50% of the poupulation,norgans make up 40% and New revaninans make up the remianing 10%

Military

the northern isle military is a very small yet professional force made up of manly light and naval infantry men. they have very few filed guns instead wish to use there heavy coastal guns. cavalry is also in few numbers. but what cavalry units they have are well trained. due to religious beliefs the northern army thought its history has never wore helements believing a man who is taking life must be willing to show his eyes to his enemies before he kills them
the navy is the northern isle trump card. there is no fleet in the north sea to rival it. there modern ships are armed with torpedoes. they have some breach loading guns. during the age of reeving and raiding northern longships where the terror of the northern seas.
Magic has been used in the northern army since before they came to the northern isle.
the northern isle invented the skis and are used by there army.

Religion

the old ways, is the polythesitic faith of the the isles. a mix of epic poetic tales and profetic messages the pantheon is headed by Perun who is known as the lord of the table and the faith preaches that all will have a place at his tables but depending on your actions in life will depend on where you sit.

Foreign Relations
