Village of Starren

Introduction

Starren is a small village at the base of Dunatis’ Ring and functions as the entrance to Starrengeld. It is a sparse, mostly Dwarven, village. Due to its position around the lifts into Starrengeld, it is reasonably fortified with a large wall, a guard barracks, and a few stone golems. There is a lodge within the village for travelers to stay at on their journey, a stable company to buy or rent horses and carts from, with a local farrier and wood worker to care for horses and work on carts. A few other craftsman have set up shop within the village to try and catch the attention of people and get an early sale before they enter Starrengeld and to help maintain the equipment for those local to the village.

Social

The village of Starren has a very flat social divide. They are a fairly small and tight knit community and everyone who contributes to the betterment of the village is looked upon as a friend by the rest. A lot of this is driven by how small the village community is. Everyone gets together at the end of the month as a bit of a potluck pseudo-celebration to catch up with one another. The community is mostly dwarven, but they are very welcoming to outsiders of all races.

Political

Starren is led by a mayor, Lydia Stonewall, though she is really just a steward for The Starren above in Starrengeld. The Starren is the true ruler, but for the most part, the mayor is entrusted with watching over the village and keeping order.

Economical

Starren has a modest, but still successful economy. The local craftsmen are able to make most of the every day items that people in the village need, and those who live in the surrounding area can barter their farmed goods for the services of these craftsman. The village also has a fluid economy, propped up by the travelers making a stop on their way into and out of Starrengeld.

Religious

Starren is not a very religious town. Most of the denizens will give thanks to Dunatis, as it is the mountains of his namesake that their village is built upon. Other than that, the people of Starren may pray to a god related to their work and livelihood, but not much else.

Military

Starren actually does have a decent standing militia who do maintain their training upkeep. Starrengeld is largely considered safe due to its location in the side of a mountain, but Starren is still a last line of defense. There are over a dozen trained guards for the village and there are also two stone golems that are housed in the pillars of the walls guarding the lift. The stone golems lie dormant, and have for over a century, only to awake when the village is under threat.
