No Response From Fangwood Plot in Legends of Elohey | World Anvil

No Response From Fangwood

Once Upon a Time…

... It began with a simple band of heroes, who chose to side with an Orisnuc orcish warlord, instead of a thief who called himself a King…

It was the first week of Aquitaine’s Great Fair. The legendary Swallowtail Festival that featured song, music, and other revelry. It was the greatest of all holy holidays for anyone living in, or near, the city of Aquitaine.

This year was no different for the locals, except for one. Chaliimriia Goiki, the Samakarii elven priestess and member of the SNAFU guild, chose a different celebration. This year, she spent it with her sweetheart, Orisnuc orcish scout Kavi ot’Maninga Sukir Arroweye.

But life is rarely so easy, nor is a hero’s work ever done.

It two days before life tracked them down. Kavi’s scout company, the Kwi’Sakdi, arrived mid-morning with unusual news. Lia ot’Marota Vayla Ravenspeaker had a blood-stained message found by one of her ravens on the road to the town of Churdawn, Fangwood Keep, and all parts south in the Troll Hills.

It was a call for help.

The message from Churdawn had been written four days ago. They were under attack by monstrous creatures that was attacking the town. People were vanishing in the night. The message claimed nearby Fangwood Keep never replied to the signal for help, and Churdawn may not be able to hold out much longer.

Based on the blood-stained message, the group knew there was no time to waste. The worst might have happened to Churdawn but there still might be survivors. Kavi and Chaliimriia packed quickly, then the group headed south for Churdawn.

Notes From The Game Master

For those who haven't enjoyed a Play By Post adventure, below are some 'Rules of Play', and a description of how the adventure will be structured. But first, the theme...

The Theme

This is, as always, another Elohey "Spaghetti Fantasy Adventure" or a hybrid of the "Spaghetti Western" and the "Fantasy/Fairy Tale" genres. It's a fantasy adventure with rough and tumble magic and sword slingers working to do good in a dangerous world. A world that contains both fantasy and grittier versions of 'fairy tales'.

General Rules of Play

Some expectations of the player to the Game Master and the Game Master to players!
Read 'General Rules of Play'

Read the Game Master's Rules of Play

  • The Narrator or Game Master ( that’d be me ) will work hard to keep things moving along at a scene every 1 to 2 weeks. Life gets busy, real busy, so that may get slower but also may get faster!
  • For Game Master posts, I’ll use third person. Probably Third Person “close” which is really kissing cousins to “first person”.
  • On posting, please try and post at least something every two weeks. Otherwise I’ll be the proverbial pain in the shorts to you about this.
  • If I can’t Narrate for Life reasons, I’ll let everyone know when the game goes on a brief pause so no one will be left hanging (other than a cliffhanger, which delight me to no end :D )
  • In each post, a character is allowed to do two things: 1 move action (walk, run, etc) and 1 "action" action (fight, throw something, etc). No more, no less.
  • This one is important... we're here to ROLEPLAY not ROLLPLAY. Don't jump to the dice right away, explain in character what your character is doing. You don't have to go into detail but give me your character's viewpoint here. It may turn out that you do such a great job, no dice roll is necessary!
  • Now, on the topic of using other people’s characters in your move… DO NOT DO THIS UNTIL YOU HAVE CLEARED IT WITH THE OTHER PLAYER FIRST, and LET ME KNOW THIS IS GOING ON. I mean it.
  • Your 'in character' move should involve your character taking steps to solve the problem. No one here is supporting cast. Only the NPCs are supporting cast.
  • Now, if you go more than 4 weeks without posting and I’ve nagged you until you’re screaming and you aren’t posting… THEN… your character goes up for grabs by the rest of the group as an NPC. This is to keep the story moving.
  • BUT! If you’re having trouble with a move or action, please get in touch with me or your fellow players over our Discord. Collaborate and brainstorm ideas, then post a move.
  • With all that out of the way, enjoy your character. For most, these are new characters ( sure, I know, NPCs… but characters ) with different motivations and skills than you might have tried. Feel that out. Experiment. Let the character’s personality be your guide.
  • ALSO! Other than Chaliimriia, all the rest of you were born into the Orisnuc culture. They are a complicated people with a deep history:
  • Orisnuc
    Ethnicity | Dec 30, 2021

Plains people with a deep culture, complicated past and perhaps an even more complicated future!

Remember that the Orisnuc culture shaped how they think and view the world.
  • If anything about the Orisnuc people seem vague, talk to me. We’ll clear it up.
  • Don’t EVER be afraid of a failed roll. Never. Those weak results are a gold mine for play by post. Lean into it.
  • Communicate! Communicate! Communicate! The best Play by Post games I’ve been involved in are the ones where the players talk their buttocks off about worldbuilding, actions, and moves.
  • And don’t be afraid of posting moves that don’t involve dice actions. Those can sometimes be as important as the once with dice rolls! I’ll be reading and taking notes off those as well. Post conversations! If you feel like your character should sing and you have terrible lyrics in mind that you like... make a post!
  • Last, but not least, and MOST IMPORTANT… have fun. If this works as I hope, I will run more of these.

  •

    The Adventure Structure

The adventure will be structured primarily in 'Chapters' where each 'Chapter' will be a separate Discussion Board. As the adventure progresses, and we move to new Chapters, I'll be closing each Chapter behind us marking it to read only. We'll be able to read the ones we've completed but not post to or alter them.
