GHG Session 22: No Heroes, No Feast

General Summary

Month 9, Week 4, Year 918
The session began with an intense fight against Bianca Avon's latest harbingers of doom, a spirit with a wide-brimmed gray hat and a couple of chunky shadows. Zan'kiri and Ysmyrelda held the back against the shadows while the rest of the party reeled from the main spirit's vicious psychic attacks. Bubbles managed to slow down one of the shadows with their newly-learned 'Hunger of Hadar' spell before falling to the barrage of traumatizing psychic attacks, Jezebeth healing the little frogfolk at the end of the fight (after healing herself of course). Phaedra's attempts at fighting left her bursting with wild magic for a minute straight, injuring half the group and briefly transforming into a bright storm of raw arcane power floating in the marshes.   As the party collected up the ghost dust and Phaedra crawled back to camp, Jezebeth explained to the group that she'd be returning to Ardin the next morning. She had the power to cast either 'Word of Recall' or 'Heroes Feast' with the magic item at her disposal, and she was choosing to leave the group before further spirits left her dead. Windred and Ysmyrelda took this last night as a final opportunity to read through her journal for any more information on her aetherforged project, learning that she was working with Lothar Hainaut's support and that she had tried to convince the elven priest managing the ruins of Kassædeia to approve her research with limited success. With the snooping complete and the second watch finally coming to an end, Ys woke Argus for the final watch but struggled to find a Jezebeth to wake up.   That's because Zan'kiri had arranged for new sleeping accommodations six feet underground for Jezebeth. A sneak attack by him and his skeleton cronies killed the tiefling scholar in her sleep, a 'Silence' spell keeping the murder under wraps from the rest of the party. With Ys forging a note to leave for Argus, it was a foolproof conspiracy to save the world from Jezebeth's aetherforged. Argus appeared a little teary-eyed after reading this farewell letter, announcing to the group over coffee the next morning that Jezebeth had returned home.   Without anybody else to stop their progress, the Fortunate Fellows continued east towards the Elflands aqueducts and Bianca's lair. They set up camp five miles away from their destination, the night quickly turning testy without Jezebeth to draw their ire. That night Windred confronted Phaedra about her group affiliations beyond the GHG, the young yuan-ti growing defensive when Windred started probing into her mind. With the rest of the group woken up by Phaedra's shouting, Windred revealed that she was an agent for the Shroud and that she needed to know who Phaedra was working for to feel safe in the party. That information wouldn't be forthcoming anytime soon as Phaedra stalked out of the camp and left the group behind. Without any shared trust, sometimes you don't even need a monster to defeat a party.
