Stardust Phoenix

Tristan Cross (a.k.a. Stardust Phoenix)

Stardust Phoenix is a young nephilim and swordsman. A student of the Kazehana Sword Style, he has since modified his learnings into a new Stardust Sword Style.

Physical Description

Special abilities

Remix: This is not necessarily a special power, it is more an application of Stardust's ability to quickly learn new techniques to utilize with his blade. Stardust can begin to learn a technique after seeing another individual use it, though the abilities that Stardust develop usually deviate from the original ability some. This is why the ability is known as Remix, Stardust puts his own "mix" into the techniques of other swordsmen and creates useful attack applications that are both entirely new and unique from what the original "mix" of the technique was.   Thermokinesis: Stardust can create and control fire to a minimal degree, he used to have greater control but seems to have lost that. As a result, the most he can do is use his flame to heat his own body or his sword. While the average human body must maintain an average body temperature of 98.6 degrees at all time, Stardust's body has a unique body chemistry (believed to be a result of the mixing of human and angel blood) where his internal and vital organs can survive significantly higher temperatures, nothing changes for him and his body feels exactly the same. To anyone that he touches, the young samurai will be hot to the touch and engaging him would result in some potential serious burns.   Ashigaru (Translation: Lightfeet): After Star lost his ability to form his wings due to Seraph's increasing presence, he created this ability. Star creates a thin wrapping of wind around his feet that allows him to float a couple of inches off of the ground. His shinsoku ability has been consolidated into this new ability, he is able to move at a faster constant speed by ignoring ground friction entirely. Also, this attack allows him to do things such as "skate" along the surface of water, molten ground, etc.   Second Wind: Before a fight begins, Stardust exhales a minuscule bit of his life energy or ki into a thin mist that floats in the air around him. This mist is invisible to anyone not trained in the Kazehana Style. When he has been badly damaged or reached a point of exhaustion, he can inhale this energy to perform a minor bit of healing and restoration of his stamina. If Star moves too far away from the mist or does not re-absorb it after a period of time, it becomes wasted energy and impossible for him to recover.   Heart of Sword: The ability Stardust gained from the Merz Bow after it mutated from the previous, Liquid Swordz. Heart of Sword allows Stardust to create blades from any substance which act as cutting weapons while retaining their original properties.   Angelblood: An ability that Stardust owes completely to his heritage. Angelblood is sort of like a stimulant, to use it Stardust manually overrides his human blood with more and more of his angel blood, constantly boosting his strength and reaction speed times. The downside of Angelblood however is that Stardust becomes very weak after it is used and the overflow of angel blood is reverted back into human blood. Can turn into Stardust Seraph by overloading his angel blood but given Seraph's nature, Phoenix isn't always so quick to do that.   Stardust Style: A sword style that Stardust invented himself. Being it's creator, he has mastered all the techniques involved.

Apparel & Accessories

Stardust's current appearance is far more graceful and effeminate than any of his past fashion styles. He wears a white traditional, full-bodied kimono with a floral print pattern covered in a variety of red, orange, yellow, and pink flowers. A very summery look compared to the more cool color palette he previously preferred His long azure blue hair runs straight and down his back. While he previously wore an eyepatch, he has discarded that artifact with his latest re-envisioning of his image. He wears earrings that resemble shooting stars with the tail of the stars' being made of white crystals that hang. For footwear, he's decided to wear traditional Japanese wooden geta sandals. Overall, Stardust's current philosophy seems to be if you cannot find beauty in the world, become beauty. Rumored to be considered the most attractive Jumper by a wide margin among civilian polls.

Specialized Equipment

Snake Eater- Karura: An iconoclast class sword (weapons that are considered poisonous to angels) designed by Rinoa Applefield according to Stardust's specifications. After the battle with Noize and Seraph's rebellion during the adventure in the Dusk of Alexandria, Stardust sought a way to weaken his angelic half and be prepared for any angels in the future that would try to locate him and destroy his stability. The result was this katana. Star left TGC for a few months to return to his birth planet, Sheol. There he sought to obtain grimstone, the mineral necessary for forging an iconoclast class weapon. The samurai was successful and had his childhood friend, Rinoa Applefield, forge the blade for him. A seemingly ordinary blade besides the flame-shaped tsuba (handguard) of it. The sword however has an interesting effect on Stardust and Stardust alone because of his unique heritage, while the blade is in his presence, the influence of his other half, Stardust Seraph, is weakened and his physical abilities are slightly raised due to Seraph's decreased grasp on their shared vitality. Star cannot use any of his angel abilities or forcefully become Seraph while Snake Eater- Karura is in his grasp. This isn't a detriment to the samurai however as he chooses his humanity over the "ascension" of the angels.

Vermilion Distortion: A unique offensive/defensive weapon created from reverse engineering technology found aboard Noize's Kurogane Symphonia and applying Kazehana style techniques to it. Vermilion Distortion is a golden tekko (armguard/gauntlet) that covers the majority of Stardust's upper left arm. He can use it to block attacks but it's primary purpose is in fact to emit ultrasonic frequencies. This armament uses the sound waves it creates to trigger thermoacoustic refrigeration in a targeted area. In conjunction with Star's natural heat abilities, Vermilion Distortion can be used to flash freeze anything but its maximum efficiency is around the size of a human adult male, larger objects cannot be entirely frozen. The hotter the source, the quicker it freezes.

Hachidori (Translation: Hummingbird): A blue scarf made for Stardust by Midnight Shadow. This scarf is special in that it is however woven with ultra-thin blades in its lining allowing it to also be used as a weapon and a sort of secondary sword if necessary. Stardust got the idea of a bladed scarf as a discreet weapon when he fought against an illusion of his mother who is said to imply the same kind of weapons. The scarf also has hidden compartments where Star stores small things such as his Phoenix Feather knives. He currently wears it wrapped around his right arm.

Phoenix Feathers: The name that Stardust uses for the daggers and knives that he keeps in his pockets and scarf. They are nothing more than normal daggers and knives but with Stardust's efficiency in sword arts means he can put them to great use.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Stardust Phoenix came from the colony planet of Sheol, a world colonized by humans at the far reaches of the galaxy. Stardust always believed that someday he would be the world’s greatest swordmaster. He held firmly onto this dream since it was the only thing that he knew, Stardust as a child had never knew his mother or his father as a result of being a Nephilim, a child of an angel and a human but wanted by neither society. As a result, he had been abandoned as an infant. At the age of 4, Stardust started to learn the art of Kendo at the orphanage of a man named Shinichiro Dangun, commonly known by his nickname of Kazemaru. Kazemaru knew of Stardust's heritage but didn't discriminate against the child. Stardust was the weakest in his sword class but continued to work hard until eventually; he could hold his own against Kazemaru at the age of 13. Stardust had a crush and was in love with one of his fellow students, Rinoa Applefield, she was the only student besides Stardust that could go one to one with Kazemaru and survive. Though Stardust could feel a great void of loneliness in Rinoa's heart, the same void that he knew existed within his own heart. This along with her kind smile was what made Rinoa stand out to Stardust so much, he loved her the very first time he ever saw her smile.

He looked out at the stars and moons every night, hoping that someday he would be able to travel beyond his own world and test his craft against others. He was fascinated with the stars, they were so close yet so far away from him every time that he viewed them. He imagined that he himself must have been like that to those who did not know him, a distant image that they could view so close yet never grasp in front of them. He adopted the name Stardust as a codename for everyone across the galaxy to someday know as the greatest man who ever held a sword.

Stardust soon told Rinoa just how he felt about her, she was touched that for the first time someone in her life actually truly cared for her. As another orphan at a nearby orphanage, she was used to neglect. The two of them enjoyed a brief moment of happiness together, but this wouldn't last forever. Rinoa shortly vanished after that.

Rinoa returned into Stardust's life to eventually kill Kazemaru in a duel to take his sword, Silencer Echo, which Stardust couldn't understand until he met Juan Santiago, the man responsible for Rinoa's suffering in life. Stardust attempted to defeat Juan and make him pay for his vile acts but Stardust was nowhere near strong enough and would have been killed at that time if it was not for Rinoa intervening. Stardust swore that for Kazemaru and for his love towards Rinoa he would destroy Juan and his cursed black sword, World Destroyer Leviathan.

"You'll need a hundred swords before you come close to even making a scratch on me." These were the words that Juan said to Stardust after he easily defeated the young samurai. Clinging for his life, Stardust took these words to heart, in his mind he dedicated the rest of his life to restoring Rinoa's happiness and killing Juan Santiago. Juan left Stardust alive, not out of pity but rather because he thought that the boy was too pathetic to even be worth killing, he had never seen a swordsman as naive and merciful as Stardust in his life. He thought that by letting Stardust live, the boy would be far more fun to kill when he became a stronger swordsman. Juan's words echoed continuously in Stardust's mind as he and Rinoa were both gone by the time that Stardust had regained consciousness.

Stardust spent the next few years of his life wandering around the world, fighting and collecting the swords of the swordsman whom he defeated. With each blade that he acquired, he came one step closer to the day when he would find Juan, and challenge him to a duel to the death. At the age of 16 he acquired his final sword of his collection, One World, after defeating a powerful swordsman in a duel at the Grand Sword Festival. The Grand Sword Festival is an event that was held yearly on Sheol to find some of the most skilled swordsmen in the world and allow them to taste their prowess. Stardust won the festival that year and acquired his now signature weapon, Stardust Breaker as a result. With this, he had acquired the 100 swords that he would use to punish Juan Santiago.

However, the word of Stardust's victory in the festival spread throughout Sheol and not only among the humans. The angels who usually didn't get involved in the affairs of humans had discovered that Stardust, a nephilim, was beginning to make a name for himself. They couldn't have this due to their extreme prejudice and sought to have Stardust eliminated. Stardust defeated an angel by the name of Zeruel in a one-on-one duel, who on his death revealed himself to be Stardust's father and told the young swordsman of his heritage and how Nephilim were beings who contained two souls, how Stardust would eventually get in touch with his other soul. Stardust wasn't particularly phased by any of this but he knew that the angels had become his enemy along with his previous nemesis, Juan Santiago. Zeruel used the last bit of his life to whisk Stardust away to a planet within the Double Jump Universe, an area that the angels were not knowledgeable about yet in the star system.

Stardust used to regularly engages in battle with Rinoa to protect his sword and attempt to save his beloved from the curse of Juan’s World Destroyer Leviathan. Though now he and Rinoa are far closer than they had ever been before, the two of them depend on each other for support and comfort. Somehow, Stardust developed multiple personalities though an extension of his angelic heritage and meditation arts taught to him by Kazemaru, though he is the dominant personality Crystal Kimera, DJ NyteLight, Blaze Salamander, and Leaf Gear are all are individuals born from his psyche. Stardust now fights for the good of The Gravity Core

Social

Contacts & Relations

Allies= He gets along well with most of The Gravity Core but there are a few members he holds a stronger bond with than others. Generally speaking, Star tends to bond more with other off-worlders (those who are not native to TGC) than native Jumpers.

Deadeyee: Deadeyee is one of Star's best friends on TGC. He is the person responsible for suggesting Star for a Jumper position in the first place and the samurai is eternally grateful. The two may seem like an odd pair with Star's more zealous attitude in contrast to Dead's more laidback manner but they tend to compliment each other well when they work side by side. The pair enjoy regularly engaging in friendly sword battles to keep their skills sharp. Star also owes Dead a disturbingly large sum of money from loans made over the years to help finance his dream of spreading the Stardust Style around TGC.

Midnight Shadow: Middy and Star share an interesting relationship. The two were close friends for many years while Star harbored a deep and rather obvious affection for her. Eventually, they took the relationship further and are now currently a couple. Middy tends to belittle Star in a joking manner which he seems to actually enjoy on some weird level. Star seemingly has a fetish for strong women and as a result, tends to gush on and on about Middy's beauty while she's in her Neko Middy form. Part of the reason Stardust lives in near perpetual poverty compared to his associates is because he spends much of his income on expensive gifts for Middy. He is sometimes overbearingly protective and will not tolerate anyone or anything that threatens Middy's safety, completely okay with throwing his life away for her sake.

BFK: Star and Beef are very close friends. They have similar interests and ways of thinking. This results in the two often understanding how the other is feeling or their thoughts without need for verbal communication. The two have impressive synergy in the midst of combat. They have a brother-like relationship, and often make fun of each other. They like to train together because of their similarities, and Beef respects Star for the way he achieved his goals through training and willpower. However, Star sometimes views some of Beef's habits as self-destructive but tries not to impose his opinions on his friend.

Rock: Star and Rock do not always see eye to eye but they are friends with a mutual respect for each other. Their differences come mostly from their ideals but they can agree to disagree when there are bigger issues at hand. Star is always surprised that Rock seems to have somewhat of an obsession with his swords despite not being a practitioner of the blade himself. Rock's demeanor sometimes infuriates Star while Rock finds some of Star's beliefs archaic and silly.

Vulcan: While Vulcan is a somewhat guarded man and the two aren't exactly close in a traditional sense, Stardust greatly admires Vulcan for his sense of duty. Vulcan is the sort of man that Star envisions as an ideal father, possibly because of the samurai's disdain for his actual father. Star however also believes that Vulcan's powers should be kept under watch and he will not hesitate to strike the man down, no matter how much he may respect him, if his personal mission ever causes strife for the denizens of TGC. Though Star has not yet met Vulcan's son, Eric, he does not particularly care much for the envisioned concept of him he has.

Nitro: Nitro was a good friend of Star's and the samurai was quite broken up about the archer's demise. Though he doesn't discuss it with the others, he often still hopes that someday, Nitro will turn up again on TGC.

SB: SB and Star have a rather rough history together of not seeing eye to eye. The two have come to respect each other over time but they're still not exactly what you would call the best of buddies. For this reason, Stardust was not exactly thrilled with how much time Crystal spent around SB, though he later just accepted it. Part of Star's dislike of SB comes from the fact that SB owns an entire moon. Star views this as unnecessary extravagance and denying lunar resources towards those who might need them more than the engineer, SB.

Rainierman: Star does not care much for Rain but does not allow his personal opinions to become too apparent. For one, Star finds Rain's use of an oversized sword with the rule of "no killing" to be moronic and childish. Star is not particularly fond of killing but he will when necessary. He also finds Rain's constant jabs at Vulcan to be unprofessional and equally childish. To Star, Rain is a person who has no place on a battlefield but keeps foolishly placing himself onto one. For a person like Star who entrusts his life to his sword every time he fights, Rain's neglectful use of a sword is borderline offensive.

Magik: Magik completely hates Star even though Star wishes it wasn't so. Star has gone out of his way to try to make amends between the two of them but Magik would not have any of that. In fact, Magik has made it very clear that he and Star will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever truly be allies.

Crystal Kimera: Star views Crystal as a younger sister but at times treats her more like a daughter. He often regrets having created her through his actions, not because of anything Crystal has done but because of a sense of pity he has over the fact that she'll never be a "complete" human. He is extremely protective of her and this is part of the reason that Star has a lukewarm relationship with SB. Star tries not to smother Crystal however and often leaves her to her own plans so that she can continue to have her own identity outside of "his sister".

Rinoa Applefield: Stardust's childhood friend from Sheol and his first love interest. The two have had a rather complicated history. Their time as a couple has passed but they're still very supportive of each other and share a close bond. Star has agreed to exclusively use swords developed by Rinoa as his primary weapons in his quest to become acknowledged as the greatest swordsman in the galaxy from now on. While they've fought together many times, their synergy in a fight is not actually all that strong. Their respective styles just aren't that compatible, a good sign of how their current relationship and way of depending on each other is more fitting.

Heatwizard: The two once had something of a friendly rivalry but it soured over the years. After several incidents, Star began to carry disdain for Heatwizard and the feeling was mutual. The two will put their differences aside for the sake of their duty as Jumpers but it would be foolish to expect them to cooperate otherwise.

Reamann: Stardust holds a grudge against Reamann after an incident involving the two of them, Middy, and a bush. He doesn't particularly have strong feelings one way or another about Blue Logic or the rest of the Logic Crew but he utterly despises Reamann. To ridiculous levels.

Star is an enemy to all villains of TGC. However, Ageha Shattertail took a particular interest in him, attacking him specifically when she returned.

Social Aptitude

Stardust Phoenix is usually regarded a calm, collected, polite and conscientious person who remains soft-spoken during many casual moments. However, he also has an intensely competitive streak and will challenge other swordsmen without a moment's hesitation. His desire to prove himself as number one in his discipline outshines his common sense sometimes. He is also an eccentric to those who know him, his sense of humor and his various interests can be....fairly off kilter. He is known to enjoy cooking and gardening but because he views life as a constant opportunity to train and improve, he often uses his sword techniques with his casual hobbies to varying levels of success. While he values his friends and innocents in general, he seems to have a particular bias towards women that often drifts into various forms of flirting and admiration. Finally, he has a fascination that can be described as a fetish for displays of power/strength in women.
