Nitro

Jason Magnus (a.k.a. Nitro)

Nitro is a young human. Experimented on prior to his arrival to TGC, he usually pirates around the planet when not on official Jumper duty. He has an awkward relationship with Jumperland, where he is both a wanted criminal and a active Jumper fighting against incredibly powerful threats.

Physical Description

Facial Features

Nitro has short brown hair with a notable white streak through it from Rewel’s experimentation. Usually has some amount of full facial stubble, but will be clean shaven if he has a chance to shave while docked.

His left arm is completely metallic, and has grooves cut into it leading upward from a small, normally white gemstone in the palm. These grooves use a similar gemstone, default color is white.

Special abilities

Wind Control: Nitro's control over the wind is extremely powerful, yet also unwieldy. By himself he is only capable of “large scale” wind control, such as changing the direction of the wind, or creating localized windstorms, ranging in size from a small 5ft, up to to full-sized tornadoes.

Nitro is not normally capable of creating small-scale wind attacks, like blades of wind or small wind blasts. However he is able to “funnel” his power through his bow, for a variety of specialized wind projectiles. He is also capable of canceling out enemy wind attacks, even if they are of a smaller scale.

Marksmanship, eyesight: Nitro's ability with a bow is unrivaled. His aim is nearly on par with scope-users, especially thanks to his wind control, which allows him to fire faster shots, longer distances, with more accuracy.

Nitro also has exceptional night vision, allowing him, to a reasonable extent, to remain potent even in darker conditions. This is a natural ability, and as such is still fairly limited.

Ability scan: The primary function of Nitro’s prosthetic arm, the gem in the center is capable of “absorbing” energy-based projectiles, and temporarily storing the energy allowing Nitro to use it against his enemies. Much like his wind control, he requires his bow to funnel this into any meaningful attack, and can imbue his arrows fired with whatever power he absorbed. The type of energy absorbed will “keep” it’s properties while stored. Fire attacks will remain as fire, cryogenic attacks will retain their freezing properties, etc. Most notable elements include:

Special attacks
Hurricane: Nitro draws his bowstring and holds it steady as the air between it begins to spin rapidly and compress. After the energy is gathered, he releases, firing a massive amount of wind "arrows" which all home in on various targets.

Aero: Nitro's strongest single-target attack. He draws an arrow and imbues it with wind power, charging it up (This takes time). He then fires it off, the arrow surrounds itself with spiraling winds and moves at speeds rivaling that of a bullet. When it strikes the energy is unleashed, causing the equivalent of a massive storm condensed into a smaller area. This attack also causes a cone effect as the blast flies, and can easily knock targets it passes by backwards.

Apparel & Accessories

Nitro typically wears short black boots, denim jeans, and a tight fitted dark gray military style jacket that is cut off at the left arm, revealing his metal arm. The jacket is specially fitted so he can strap his quiver, and attach his bow to it when needed. Additionally he wears a side holster for his modified sidearm “Maelstrom”. Occasionally he will wear a long tailed, navy blue captain’s jacket when not in combat.

Specialized Equipment

Specialized bow: Nitro’s signature weapon, a recurve bow capable of “compacting” into a smaller form for storage. This bow is one of a kind, designed by Isolde’s corporation to interface with Nitro’s mechanical left arm, allowing Nitro to imbue his shots with wind, or whichever “element” he has obtained with his copy scan. Nitro is also able to use this bow to “funnel” his wind control into a sharper, small-scale form and fire “arrows” of wind, equally powerful in their own right, and his default form of attack.

Quiver / Specialty arrows: As Nitro uses his wind arrows for the majority of combat, he does not rely on ammunition in the same sense a traditional archer would. Despite this, he carries a quiver on him, segmented into two sections:

A larger section containing regular arrows, as regular arrows are still much more deadly than his wind arrows, especially combined with one when fired.

A smaller section containing explosive arrows, arrows fitted with special explosives, used as anti-armor or for clearing groups. These can be imbued with elements from his bow and mechanical arm.

On the side of the quiver, there is one detachable reinforced tethered arrow, that Nitro can fire as a grappling hook.

Maelstrom: A modified sidearm with the appearance of an old flintlock-style pistol that fires a short range concussive blast of energy. Due to it’s small size, the pistol’s energy source requires around 5 minutes between shots to recharge.

Personal history

Nitro grew up on one of the many planets humanity colonized, third generation of this colony. At a young age, him and his childhood friend Kate were taken by the Morholt Corporation. Raised from a young age as a soldier, he was selected as a candidate for the scientist Rewel’s biochemical and biomechanical modifications.

Nitro was one of few successes of the program before it was “shut down” after a number of catastrophic failures. This imbued him with an innate wind control, as well as what gave him the prosthetic.

For awhile, Nitro worked as an assassin for Isolde, until one target. Nitro was sent to take down a former soldier, who had escaped from the corporation and had gone rogue. The target was thought to be hiding on TGC, and this is when Nitro first came to the planet.

What Nitro didn’t know, was this target was his childhood friend, Kate (now goes by Dogiri). Upon seeing her, she managed to snap Nitro out of the mental conditioning he was subject to. He came to his senses, and laid low, eventually signing up with a crew of sailors that would later turn to piracy, and eventually the crew he was with was captured.

Escaping during the TGC civil war, Nitro would eventually join up with DJ and the rest of the soon to be jumpers. Working with them, Nitro quickly became an important figure in the aerial armada of the military, fighting alongside the jumpers against many threats…

...During the Paradox Event, Nitro was thought to be slain by Zeitgeist. However, Rainier’s portal took precedence, and Nitro was only transported elsewhere on the planet. A small, unnamed and poor region near the North pole. These people assisted Nitro, who was on the brink of death from the battle.

Feeling a debt to these people, and forming a kinship with some of the natives, Nitro, under the pseudonym ‘Magnus’, formed a crew, and through piracy, brought them much needed supplies.

Nitro came back in touch with the jumpers after the conflict with Dreadnought. While Nitro is still on good terms with the jumpers, he is wanted for piracy and is considered a criminal by the government.

Mental Trauma

Ever since fighting Dreadnought, Nitro has been plagued by nightmares reliving his past in Rewel’s laboratory.. Despite this affecting his sleep, he has kept it from his crew as well as the other jumpers.

Knowing Dogiri is still on the planet, Nitro uses his piracy to try to find information about her, as well as any information leading back to the Morholt corporation.

Nitro has a bit of a drinking habit. His drink of choice is rum. He’s still a good shot while drunk.

Contacts & Relations

Nitro is somewhat cold to the new Rock, as he has this misplaced feeling that he “replaced” his old friend.   Nitro used to tease BFK, calling him a “lackey”. Despite this, the two are close friends.   Nitro always gets the unusual feeling that “he’s met Deadeyee somewhere before”, despite not having met before TGC. He is on very good terms with the jumper.   Nitro feels as though he has a friendly rivalry with Stardust Phoenix, as both of them have a number of wind based techniques. Nitro constantly teases Stardust as his wind control is much more innate and in depth. It is unknown how Star reacts to this teasing.   After past events, DJ made Nitro an admiral of TGC’s navy. After his “death” in the events of Paradox Dawn, Nitro has abandoned this post, going back to his ways of Piracy.   Knowing that his precision and abilities were one of the few on TGC that could take down Vulcan Blitz if he ever turned, Nitro always treated the powerful jumper with respect, but kept him at a careful distance.

Social Aptitude

Nitro is initially very reserved and quiet, having never learned proper socialization skills due to his stunted childhood. Despite this, he is very quick to open up to people, which combined with his adept leadership skills, leads to him making friendships easily. However, his unfamiliarity with most social situations can lead to him becoming frustrated with people easily.

Said leadership skills are a result of growing up in Morholt’s paramilitary branch, instilling Nitro with a solid sense of organization, the ability to remain cool under pressure, and both receive and give commands when needed. This was a big reason why he so quickly became a captain of the Kiye pirates, and also a leader of the jumpers.

Nitro can often get lost in his own thoughts, remaining quiet or even unintentionally tuning out parts of conversations mid-discussion.

Due to his friendly demeanour, in smaller fights or training exercises he will often make jokes and chat with others during skirmishes. However, in any serious combat Nitro relies on his training, becoming direct, able to issue orders to others, often aided due to his position as a ranged combatant, overlooking the battlefield with a larger scope.

Because of his military training, Nitro is not quick to become emotional in a fight. However if a foe does make him angry, he fully retreats into the mindset he had during his work as an assassin. He will become extremely cold and brutal in his methods. Despite his ease when it comes to connecting to others, Nitro is more than willing to sacrifice relationships for his own goals. This is what lead to Nitro joining the Jumpers in the first place, as they would have access to information that would help him reach his goal.

Because his goals are not directly in line with the jumpers, he’s often isolated himself from the rest of the group, and some consider him “traitorous” for that reason. While his connections to his crew comforts him, many of his former allied turning against him does weigh on Nitro from time to time, and he looks back at those times with great nostalgia.
