Daedalus

Founder of the Jumpers, Daedalus is the prince of the monarchy of Arbolisk. He cares deeply about his friends, and believes strongly in the concept of noblesse oblige.

Physical Description

Special abilities

Spacemaster: The ability to manipulate the fabric of space. This primarily means lengthening and shortening the distances between certain points, moving the locations of things, changing the size of "hitboxes," and so on. His abilities work best on his own body, become more difficult the further away from him they are used, and typically have a weaker effect when used directly on living beings. Note that while common applications are listed, his powers can extend beyond them with creativity and improvisation.

Spatial Awareness: DJ's abilities grant him a supernatural awareness of the space around him, letting him keep track of the battlefield no matter where he is or how quickly he moves from place to place. This sense can tell him the mass of objects and is unaffected by illusions. He can also sense "distortions" in the fabric of space very easily.

Telekinesis: Moving objects around with DJ's power. He primarily uses it to help lift his weapons, letting him carry heavier weapons with greater ease than he should be able to. He can also use it to throw objects at enemies. He can hold people in place, but they can break free with enough struggle. He can toss enemies around, though this usually does minimal damage unless there happens to be a convenient cliff or pointy object nearby.

Flight: Telekinesis on himself to allow DJ to fly. Not especially fast, and he gets tired out before too long.

Double Jump: An aerial rebound used for extra mobility.

Space-Step: Temporarily shortens space in the direction DJ is moving enough to let him cross distances nearly instantaneously. He still needs to move through the intervening space, but because the space is much smaller, the distance he travels with even a single step is much greater. Because it works in the direction he's moving, this can be used to, for example, increase the height of a jump, decrease the length of a fall, etc. Often combined with Double Jump to change direction in mid-air. It can also be used on allies to help them close distance or escape an attack or something, or on enemies to crash them into a wall, send them off a ledge, etc.

Teleportation: A much more advanced and exhaustive move than the Space-Step. It possesses much greater range and completely bypasses obstacles, but isn't usually as practical in most fights. He can only teleport other people if they are willing, unlike the Space-Step.

Phasing: DJ can pass through objects completely for a short period of time. Extremely exhausting, and phasing back while inside an object causes him to be forcibly pushed away into empty space before completed.

Reposition: DJ manipulates space to change an object’s position. The degree to which he can change it depends on the object's distance to him. From further away, he can move something a bit to the side, but at extremely close range he can completely reflect it. For living beings, he can only move them a bit to the side when up close.

Bigger on the Inside: DJ causes an object to...become bigger on the inside. The size and duration increases with the amount of time and effort spent working on it. It's possible to create a permanent effect with enough of each.

Pocket Dimensions: DJ can create pocket dimensions to store things, trap enemies, etc. Their size depends on the time and effort put into their construction. Normally about the size of a small room, but this can be greatly extended. They can be destroyed from the inside by attacking the "walls," but DJ can hold them together longer through active effort.

Hammerspace: A specialized pocket dimension that DJ can always access. It stores all of stuff, such as his adventuring gear, weapons, and other assorted items (mementos, trophies, game systems, Classic Rock's boot, other junk, etc.).

Minimized Space: DJ shrinks his "hitbox" to about the size of a basketball. While he still appears the same and his attacks still have the same range, attacks that miss the "hitbox" simply pass through him. The "hitbox" is usually located in the center of his chest, but he can slowly move it anywhere in his body.

Extended Range: The "hitbox" of DJ's attacks extend a few feet further than they appear. Attacks using his weapons do not extend as far as attacks using his body, such as punches and kicks. By charging for several moments, he can unleash a single attack that extends to a much further distance.

Two Places At Once: DJ warps space to exist in two places at the same time. Not quite a clone technique, but similar, in a way. No loss of power, but energy is shared between the two (fighting with both at once is twice as exhausting), it's complicated to control two bodies at once, and damage to one also affects the other.

Warp Speed: DJ uses minor Space-Steps with every movement, causing his attacks to move from start to finish in an instant. This makes his attacks become blazingly fast, but also uses up an enormous amount of energy to use for very long.

Shapeshift: DJ warps space to change his shape. However, his mass remains the same. By using Density Warp ahead of time, he can gain more mass to work with, but shapeshifting becomes harder, slower, more costly, and does not last as long.

Density Warp: DJ uses his abilities to change his density. It takes several moments to change, during which he can't move.
  • High Density: DJ increases his density, making himself stronger and sturdier, but also much slower. In addition, his self-affecting abilities become less effective and more costly. The more he increases his density, the more pronounced all these changes become.
  • Low Density: DJ decreases his density, making himself even faster and his self-affecting abilities even more effective and less costly to use, but making himself far weaker and more fragile. He rarely ever uses this form, considering it to be incredibly situational at best and a death trap waiting to happen at worst.

  • Distortion Bolt: DJ creates an orb of warped space and launches it at an opponent. It passes through everything in its path without doing any damage, but it disrupts energy it passes through and temporarily stuns anyone who comes into contact with it.

Distortion Strike: After charging for several moments, DJ strikes an enemy. A spatial distortion lingers on them for a while, stunning them and disrupting their attacks for a short time.

Illusions: DJ can create illusions to fool other people. They're purely visual and easily seen through by the highly observant and those with some form of "sixth sense," but can reach some otherwise impressive feats.

    Personal history

Born as the prince of Arbolisk, Daedalus awakened his powers during a Core's Aurora festival when he was seven. At his own request, he was then trained in the art of combat by the royal guard.

Due to his powers' relation to space, Daedalus was introduced to an ancient weapon known as the "Abyss of Aether," a powerful space-warping sword that rebuffs any attempt to touch it. Fortunately, as they hoped, DJ's own powers allowed him to wield it without effort.

This boost to his combat potential made him incredibly powerful; by the time Daedalus was 11, he was occasionally being sent off on missions around the galaxy. This was how he eventually met many friends, including Deadeyee, who he invited to visit his home planet.

When a civil war broke out on TGC, seeking to bring down the corrupt government, Daedalus ended up siding with the rebels. They succeeded, and afterwords Daedalusformed the Jumpers.

In the years that followed, Daedalus began spending more and more time doing missions. His visits to his home planet became fewer and further between. He has traveled to the furthest reaches of known space, fought in numerous wars, beaten incredibly powerful enemies, and lost many friends.

Several years ago, he lost the Abyss of Aether on a mission he's reluctant to talk about, and has since been training to improve his natural powers to compensate.

    Social

    Contacts & Relations

Deadeyee: Daedalus and Deadeyee are old friends, having first met during the scuffle in the Gammox system years ago.   Rock: The original Rock was an old friend of DJ's, met before DJ began doing intergalactic missions. While Daedalus misses him after his death, he doesn't hold any blame or resentment against the new Rock. He does dislike the new Rock, however, but this is entirely because of his arrogant, aggressive personality.   Stardust Phoenix: DJ and Stardust used to greatly disliked each other for reasons neither can remember anymore, much less care about. They're currently on decent terms, though DJ would prefer to patch things up more.

    Social Aptitude

DJ has a casual demeanor around friends, giving out plenty of jokes and sarcasm. He isn't a very social person by nature, however; around people he doesn't know, he can be rather aloof and stoic. He has a strong case of "Chronic Hero Syndrome" that leads to him often going out of his way to help others in need and leave no injustice unopposed. Though he can at times seem uncaring or insensitive, he actually cares a lot about other people. He's easily irritated, but hard to really anger, and this is usually expressed as only brief, impulsive flashes that he calms down from just as quickly as they appear. He has a tendency for pragmatism and practicality. DJ tries to live by the creed, "With great power comes great responsibility," and hates those who use their power to harm others.
