Majima Goro

Goro / Goromi Majima (a.k.a. Sato Atsuko | The Wailing Woman of the Tojo | The Mad Bitch of Shimano)

A unique gestalt being, created by a female Onryo possessing a male corpse, and seemingly in possession of the memories of both original human beings.

The Onryo was once Sato Atsuko, a former sex worker who later became a serial 'marriage fraudster', a woman who marries a man with the intention of divorcing him and gaining money from the divorce. However, the first man she attempted to divorce attacked her when she gave him the news that she was leaving, and she was forced to kill him in self-defence. After that, she began poisoning them rather than divorcing them.

After killing five men, she was murdered by Nishitani Homare, in order to carry out Lee's plan to use her as a body double to fake Makoto Makimura's death.

The violence of her death and cruelty of her life lead her to become an Onryo. Having heard the name Majima Goro from Nishitani as she was dying, she tracked him to Tokyo and began haunting him.

After he was murdered, she attempted to possess his corpse, only to gain many of his memories and emotions.

Physical Description

Body Features

Majima is tall and lean. Due to being Undead, he cannot put on weight or muscle, and so his body is perpetually in the state it was when he died, underfed enough that his ribs are partially visible, but not so much that it had seriously damaged his muscle tone.

He is heavily scarred across most of his body, especially his torso, legs, and wrists.

He has broken his nose multiple times, and it is slightly crooked. Most of his fingers and toes have been broken and healed bent, and his knuckles are heavily scarred and calloused.

Facial Features

Their face is long and angular, with pronounced cheekbones, slightly sunked cheeks, and a strong chin. As Goro, they are generally considered handsome.

Their left eye was removed, although the eyelid was left intact.

Goro occaisionally grows a goatee, but this is usualy (although not always) shaved off the next time they are Goromi.

Their hair is undercut, the back and sides being shaved, while the top reaches to their shoulderblades. Goro typically wears it pulled back in a polytail or bun. Goromi either wears it in an updo, or wears a wig, usually blonde. The only times they wear it loose in public is when they are intending to kill someone.

Identifying Characteristics

They have the Original Majima's irezumi, which covers their entire back, down to the backs of their thighs, as well as curving over their shoulders to partially cover their chest.

The tattoo depicts a Hannya with yellow eyes and fangs. The background is spiralling black and white clouds, with scattered red flowers. On the upper back and chest are two white snakes.

The tattoo is the work of Utaboshi, but is unsigned due to their being another session required to fully complete it at the time of the original Majima's death. It has been theorised that the tattoo might be the reason the Onryo appears to be bound to Majima's body, although this is uncomfirmed - another theory is that Utaboshi possesses precognition and chose the design knowing that Majima would eventually be bound to an Onryo.

Special abilities

Unlike most cases of Possession, the Onryo cannot leave Majima's body, limiting the powers they have access to.

Nenya - they can manipulate broadcasting devices such as radios and TVs, changing what they are displaying. Most Onryo with this ability use it for communication or to terrify their enemies, but Majima primarily uses to provide a soundtrack for their life.

Telepathy - they have limited telepathy, primarily read-only, although they are able to enter dreams where they are capable of limited read-write. This power is far more pronounced with any who has tasted their blood.

Healing Factor - as they are already dead, they cannot be killed, and they have some healing abilities. These opperate on a strict timescale - any injuries they sustain will vanish after 3 days, regardless of severity, but they will not heal at all during those three days, meaning they can be incapacitated.

Telekenesis - the Onryo's telekinetic abilities cannot be used as traditional telekenesis, but can be used to enhance their physical strength, making them both stronger and faster than a living human.

Aura - onryo possessing humans are typically easily identifiable by those in the know, as they have a presence which is inherently frightening to humans. However, as a result of being permanently bound, Majima can control this, and chooses to turn it off most of the time, using it only when deliberately intimidating someone.

Apparel & Accessories

As Goro, Majima usually wears the same outift of black leather trousers, a gold snakeskin jacket, black snakeskin shoes with steel tips, black leather gloves, and a gold chain. If he dresses differently, it is usually for a specific event, or a costume of some kind.

As Goromi, her wardrobe is far more varied. She dresses, in her own words, like "she can't decide whether she's going to kill a man or suck him off in a back alley for ¥‎100", hard femme with edge. Leather and snakeskin are still the predominent materials, with most of her wardrobe consisting of short, tight dresses (although she does have some daisy dukes, reserved for when she really wants to kick someone's ass and she thinks they'll actuall pose a challenge. She typically wears stiletto sandals and pumps, with platform boots for more intensely active days. If you see Goromi wearing her only flats, a pair of steel-toed combat boots, it's pretty much guarenteed you're going to die.

They wear an eyepatch over their missing eye, black with a silver snake on it. They have their nipples pierced, and typically wear gold bars. They don't have their ears pierced, but Goromi sometimes wears clip-on earings.

They paint their fingernails - Goromi changes hers to matche her outfit, while Goro typically sticks to black or gold.

Specialized Equipment

The Demonfire Blade - a wakizashi with images of flames on the blade and a black laquer hilt and sheath, decorated with sakura blossoms. Majima only draws it when he's fighting for his life or intending to seriously maim or kill his opponent. It is said the only people to have survived it are Shimano Futoshi and Kiryu Kazuma.

Baseball Bat - Majima's default weapon is a black aluminium baseball bat. They are not specially made or reinforced, and as a result, he destroys them at a rate of about one per week.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

For the history of Majima Goro prior to his death, see Original Majima

Sato Atsuko was born in a small village in rural Kansai. She moved to Osaka alone to attend high school, as her village had no high school and she had always dreamed of living in a big city. However, she struggled both academically and financially. She was naturally impulsive, and had a chip on her shoulder about her humble origins, leading to massive overspending in a desire to keep up with the more popular and wealthy girls she knew.

This overspending eventually lead to her getting into debt with the Yakuza, and when she couldn't pay up, she was forced to work in one of their clubs as a stripper to pay the debt. Although she didn't initially mind the work, no matter how much she paid, her debt never seemed to go down, and she was eventually pressured into full-service sex work which she hated.

Desperate to escape the life, she began hunting for a man to marry, but her husband quickly revealed himself to be emotionally and financially abusive, as well as a serial cheater, and she resolved to divorce him. However, when she told him she was leaving, he attacked her, and she was forced to kill him out of self-defence, stabbing him with a pair of kitchen scissors.

When her murder was not discovered, as his death was blamed on the local Yakuza with whom he had some shady dealings, she became a black widow, marrying men for their money and then quietly killing them, usually by poison. Although some of the men were comfortably off, she had never fully grown out of her impulsive spending and extravagent tastes, and she quickly burned through the money, requiring her to repeat the process.

By the time she was murdered by Nishitani Homare, as a 'gift' to Majima Goro, she had killed five men.

As he was killing her, she asked Nishitani why he was doing this to a stranger, and he openly told her it was for Majima, so when her spirit rose from the grave as an Onryo, a vengeful ghost, it was Majima rather than Nishitani she sought revenge against.

She tracked him to Tokyo, in time to see his death during the climax of the empty lot business at the hands of Shimano Futoshi. Deprived of any other way of wreaking her vengeance, she chose to possess his corpse to allow her a temporary return to the pleasures of the living.

However, for unknown reasons, on possessing Majima's corpse, she gained his memories, including his emotions.

She went to ground for several weeks, while the two consciousnesses wrestled for control, but the being that eventually emerged was gestalt, having both sets of memories and elements from both original personalities.

They returned to Shimano's service, Majima's bond with him too strong to break, at least with Saejima still in prison, although the Onryo made no secret of her dislike for him, resulting in a strangely antagonistic relationship despite their ultimate loyalty.

Majima's passion and fighting skills, combined with Atsuko's rage and experience as a cold-blooded killer, made a lethal combination, and the new Majima became Shimano's attack dog and, when needed, assassin, quickly rising through the ranks to become Captain of the Shimano family, and even Patriarch of their own family.

Gender Identity

Majima's gender is fluid, shifting between male, female, and agendered, depending on mood and which of the two original beings is more in control. He wears feminine clothes about a third of the time, and switches between the names Goro and Goromi, depending on how he currently wishes to be percieved.

He doesn't generally care in the slightlest about what pronouns others use for him, but will occaisionally use enforcing or objecting to she/her pronouns as an excuse to start fights when he's bored.

Sexuality

Atsuko was bisexual, although she had not explored her attraction to women in any depth prior to her death. Majima was gay, but had sexual experience with women, and didn't particularly object to the need to sleep with women in order to protect himself among the Yakuza.

These sexualities merged when their personalities did, resulting in the new Majima being pansexual, but with a preference for men.

They make no secret of their sexuality, although due to their generally over-the-top presentation and enjoyment of making members of the Yakuza uncomfortable, those who do not know them well often assume they are joking in order to get a rise out of people.

Education

The Atsuko completed highschool, although not particularly well, while the Original Majima dropped out of school at 14, and had only attended intermittently before that.

Employment

Due to having the combined memories of both original beings, they have experience in bar work, stripping, prostitution, theft, Yakuza grunt work, home-making, cashiering, and murder.

Failures & Embarrassments

They consider Majima not protecting Saejima a failure, even though it was forced upon them by Shimano, and this percieved failure and betrayal continues to dominate their life, even though they are, in may ways, a totally new person from the one who Saejima swore himself to.

Mental Trauma

Both beings who make up Majima are deeply traumatised.

Atsuko is a survivor of sexual and physical assault, as well as intimite partner abuse. She was forced to kill her husband in self-defence, was unwillingly forced in sex work she was not comfortable with by her debts, and was violently murdered. She had deep-seated mental health issues which began to manifest in her teens, which had strong similarities to narcisistic personality disorder. Her trauma was so extensive that she became on Onryo on her death.

Majima is a survivor of parental abuse. He was badly bullied in primary school due to being percieved as feminine. This lead him to learn to fight, but he never fully escaped the perception, even as he joined the Yakuza. He also realised he was gay, and was forced to hide it. He was prevented from helping his kyoudai and believes he is to blame for Saejima being imprisoned. He had an eye put out and spent a year being tortured, which was fully intended to kill him, only his belief that he had to survive long enough for Saejima to be the one to kill him keeping him going. After surviving, he was enslaved by Shimano. He betrayed his masters to save the life of Makoto, but wasn't able to prevent her being shot, which left her in a coma. Finally, he went to confront Shimano, only to be brutally murdered by him.

Intellectual Characteristics

Majima is fairly emotionally intelligent and good at reading people. If so inclined, they can get along with almost anyone, and can be extremely persuasive, bording on manipulative. They have street smarts, and a tallent for picking up physical skills almost preternaturally fast, be it fighting styles or dancing. Although they are often far too impulsive to make effective use of it, they are a decent strategist.

They lack formal education, but could have done reasonably well academically had they been motivated to try. They're interested in the world, and have good general knowledge.

Morality & Philosophy

They have a few hard lines which they will not cross for anyone (hurting children, sexual assualt of any kind, sending anyone to the hole), not even Shimano, but are otherwise willing to do some really terrible things under orders.

When not under orders, they're prone to violence but generally fairly amiable, and willing to help out those in need when asked, although their intimidating experience means they're rarely asked. Generally any favours they do are for the girls at their clubs, who they are extremely protective of.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Majima has three guiding principles: their own please, Majima's loyalty to the Saejima family, and Atsuko's vengeance.

Likes & Dislikes

They like tasteless clothes, expensive whiskey, and casual violence. Their preferences in food tend towards the cheap and greasy, with takoyaki being their biggest comfort food, although they can appreciate more expensive fare. Their favourite entertainment is live martial arts and fighting tornaments, and schlocky horror movies.

Social

Family Ties

Original Majima considers the Saejimas to be his family, both his kyodai Taiga and Yatsuko. This is a little more complicated now, but for the most part continues to their current existence. They have no ties to either of their blood families, or desires to re-establish any.

Social Aptitude

Majima is charismatic and extremely confident, and requires his levels of attention and social stimulisation to be happy. They can be both manipulative and deceptive when they wish to be, but they're fundamentally a pretty honest person, and rarely outright lies in any way which could be considered malicious.

Speech

Majima speaks in a Kansai accent, which varies between Atsuko's natural Kansai, and Majima's feigned and exagerated accent.

His speech is usually loud and varies wildly in pitch from a screech to a growl. He swears often and extensively, and refuses to show any sign of even being able to talk in more formal ways.

History

Shimano's relationship with Majima is complicated - Majima is his Captain and right hand man, and has proved to be reliable and extremely loyal, willing to do almost anything Shimano requires of him without question.

However, Shimano tortured, abused, and ultimately killed the Original Majima, and Majima has not forgotten or forgiven this. Equally, Shimano despises Majima's over-the-top theatricality and fluid gender expression.

Shimano fully intends to kill Majima one day, but is keeping him around because he's useful, and the most interesting thing the Tojo has to offer. Majima is perfectly willing to keep working for Shimano forever, but would not hesitate to kill him if he crossed Majima's boundaries.

History

Majima and Kiryu first met in the 90s, after they were both promoted to the Captains of their respective families and began attending events at Tojo HQ at the same time.

On the day they first met, Majima was in an extremely bad mood, and started a fight with Kiryu almost immediately. However, when Kiryu was fast and strong enough to catch Majima's punch before it connected, Majima immediately decided Kiryu was someone he wanted to know.

To the surprise of everyone they knew, they quickly formed a friendship, partly based on their love of sparring together, but also because Majima understands what it is like to be two people in one body.

Majima makes no secret of his attraction to Kiryu, although many people, including Kiryu, believe this to be a joke. He goes to much greater lengths to hide his deeper feelings, admitting them to no one, although they are fairly obvious to anyone who pays even a small degree of attention to their interactions.

Nicknames & Petnames

Majima calls Kiryu 'Kiryu-chan'. Kiryu calls Majima niisan or nēsan, depending on gender expression.

History

Nishida is intensely loyal to his deranged Oyaji, recognising that no other Patriarch would have seen his potential, never mind made someone like him a Captain. He is a naturally anxious person, and finds Majima extremely stressful, but despite that he does enjoy his job.

Majima does not treat Nishida particularly well, and teases him a lot, but is actually very fond of him, and has a high level of trust in his abilities, sometimes even overestimating his tallents.

They make a good team, Nishida providing a steadying influence on Majima, while Majima provides the violence and awe that Nishida could not inspire alone.

History

Majima was told to 'deal with' Minami before Minami had learned to take human form. Shimano intended for Majima to kill him, but Majima decided he was cute, and chose to interpret 'deal with' as meaning 'get him away from Shimano'.

He took Minami back to the Majima Family offices, were he kept him in the basement as a pet.

Minami eventually learned to take human form and speak, but it did not occur to either him or Majima that this meant he should no longer be kept as a pet. Since that meant he was always at the office and intensely loyal to Majima, Nishida began treating him as just another (albeit significantly more on fire) chinpira.

Nicknames & Petnames

Majima named Minami Kaji-kun before he learned to speak, and the nickname as stuck. Minami usually just calls Majima Oyaji, copying Nishida, but also occaisionally calls him mommy, as Goromi referred to herself that way the day she saved him from Shimano.
