Human

Humanity has been changed greatly by the Sonohoka virus. While it is understood that biologically the Zombies and the Others are still human, they are generally not socially considered Human. The term Human is now usually used to refer to an ideal person that is not effected by the Sonohoka virus.

For purposes of this world setting, a human will refer to the human that is described in the Ultramodern 5 Redux source book.

Civilization and Culture

Average Technological Level

Prior to the Fall, humanity had achieved level 4 techonology. Much has been lost, but not everything. There is much that is in use without there being the ability to reproduce it any longer. Because of this, it is difficult to know what technology level humanity is currently at.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

All of the modern languages have survived. English is the language spoke predominently in the area, New York, that the setting is built around.

Humanity, as it once was, has been irrevocably altered by the emergence of the Sonohoka virus. The term "Human" now carries a weight it never did before, signifying an ideal of untouched purity in a world where such a state is increasingly rare. While Zombies and Others may still possess the biological markers of humanity, they have become something else—distorted reflections of what once was. True Humans are a symbol of hope, a tether to the past and a reminder of what the world used to be before the Fall shattered the pillars of civilization.

In the remnants of New York, the echoes of technological marvels from a bygone age persist, though their full potential remains elusive. Level 4 technology, once humanity’s proudest achievement, is now a fragmented memory—functional in pieces but far from whole. Linguistic diversity endures amidst the ruins, with English emerging as the lingua franca of survival, connecting communities struggling to rebuild. Despite the shadow of the virus, the threads of humanity's culture and ingenuity remain, frayed but unbroken, defying the dark tide of the Sonohoka's legacy.
