One of the planets oldest cities, Waldenlot has seen the construction of both hive cities, the growth of the Imperium across the planet, and the recent war with the Orks. Little seems to be able to shake the treebound stronghold.
Waldenlot was founded in M32, when a frigate was destroyed near-orbit of Somnium Reach. After the ship crash landed in what is now the Forest of St. Amil it's crew managed to escape and use the remnants of the spacecraft to create a suitable living space. Since this time they have expanded and grown as their population did, becoming the structure it is today.
Native Society
Those descendants of the first crew have been able to learn and adapt to the planets unique ecosystem, naturally filtering the planets water, tracking the movements in ozone to avoid dangerous areas, and even establishing other, smaller settlements all across the planet. True natives to Somnium Reach, often called Somites, have a naturally higher resistance to both radiation and the toxic water of the planet.
Though their re-integration into the Imperium was relatively smooth, the religious and lingual developments of the Somites have remained relatively popular within Waldenlot. Local belief holds that the skies above Waldenlot are protected by Him Above, local priests of the Imperium have had little luck in converting the population back to true Emperor worship.
Crucial Exports
Waldenlot is also home to many native products, most crucially the processing of tokon trees into its constituent sap and gum. Though exterior efforts have attempted to replicate this process, the local peoples are not willing to teach it, and efforts to open the tough trees without damaging the crucial materials within is near impossible. Due to this, all exports of tokon gum and sap are sourced from Waldenlot.
Due to the war effort, transportation of these goods has recently faltered, and as such large stockpiles of this material are still housed within the city.
