Catrakas Secondis
While Olicana Primus was built to be the worlds primary port, Catrakas was built to be home for its people. At Olicana's peak, the city was so focused on the function of its port and the continued operation of Pinnacle Tower that those not directly affiliated were pushed aside.
The construction of Catrakas Secondis began in 872.40M, at that point it was already understood that the creation of a second hive city would have a significant impact on the planets ecosystem and potentially make the atmosphere unbreathable. This caused the cities construction to be delayed, even today, three millennia later, the city is largely unfinished.
The Lost City
11th of October, 912.M41, the Siege of Catrakas was lost and the city fell. The peak of the ork invasion force was too much for the defending forces to push back leading to a large scale retreat and heavy casualties. Of those remaining within the city most fled with the soldiers, those who remained still were cut down by ork forces in their homes, leaving Katrakas a quiet, desolate tomb. Today, Katrakas is the home to scavengers, vagabonds and heretics. The ruined city holds enough infrastructure that a number of small settlements have rooted into the cities carrion corpse. Some remain here to hide from the Imperium's wrath, others to pick the bones of the city clean.Broken Remnants
Hidden within the cities bowels stand its grand plasma generators. The inner sanctum that was built to provide power to the city still stands, though not a soul has taken a step into it since the cities loss. It's guardians were so fearful of the orks retrieving these precious generators that they committed the Rite of Sealing, closing all doors into this inner sanctum forever. This doesn't stop people trying of course, many enter the lost city seeking to reopen and re-activate the hive, or to harness the power stored within. Rumours abound that only increase the temptation of the inner sanctum. Stories of untapped military caches, water vaults still full and clean, and even remnant archeotech that the cities Tech Priests snuck into the sanctum during its construction.Controversial Construction
Many stories have been told of Catrakas that date back to the days of its construction. Legend tells that the city bore no underhive, and instead the undercity was but a shrine to the Omnissiah. So too did the city bear no icons of the Emperor, but instead that of cogs, machines, and cogitators. In its day, the city was the height of political intrigue, the church decrying its construction. No longer was this city the combined might of the Imperium, it was a city dedicated to the cog; to the Adeptus Mechanicus only. Now that the war is over, this talk has resumed. The Adeptus Mechanicus rumours to hold more interest in reclaiming this ruined city than the mighty Pinnacle Tower that united the Vermillion Port. Bounties have also been put in place to reclaim the lost (likely deceased) servitors that once aided the city, though few can understand why such basic constructs would draw o wild a financial benefit.
