Silent Crag

Until the war, Silent Crag remained a barren valley, largely unused for anything besides travel between Olicana Primus and Catrakas Secondis. The long, thin stretch of land remains in a permanent dusk for all but a few hours in the morning, with the area once being home to a small selection of hostile fauna few folk had a reason to traverse this path.  Once the war with the orks had begun, Olicana's northern gate was sealed and Silent Crag was secured as the cities only entryway into the continents northern lands. Barracks, bunkers and other defences were dotted amongst the valleys, and though several battles were fought, few threats posed a true threat to the overwhelming defensive positioning, that was until the full force of the ork invasion hit.

The Battle of Silent Crag

Also known as the Fifth Ork Assault, or the Grand Ork Assault, the Battle for Silent Crag was actually fought on two fronts, a large body of Mek Boy's and other armoured combatants launched a direct attack against Olicana's northern wall while the main ork force pushed into Silent Crag. The valleys encampments were bombarded by blastajets while hundreds of ork boyz pushed through the valley itself. With local forces stretched between the two battlegrounds the Tourlan forces were left to protect the north while the planets PDF and guard protected Silent Crag itself.  The battle was long and bloody but with the fortifications in play Olicana continued to stand unbroken. Five days into the assault ork reinforcements arrived from the south, using their vehicles to bombard against the undefended southern wall allowed several breaches in Olicana's perimeter to be opened and several groups of orks to breach the city. With this, the cities forces having to defend from three points of attack as well as the groups of orks that had now breached into the city, all had seemed lost. The city suffered another four days at the mercies of the orks, ammunition running dry and the dead laying where they fell.  On the tenth day, the Sisters of the Bloody Rose arrived to purge the xeno threat. Arriving at the northern end of Silent Crag, the hundred strong warband of sisters struck against the orks unaware, tearing through their number. It was upon the day of their arrival that the orks warboss, Hammafist Sculleata, was struck down by Sister Lotiel, now canonized for her actions on that day. The death of their warboss, alongside the already significant losses taken, caused a mass retreat of the orks within Silent Crag. This allowed the combined forces of Soriritas and PDF to move their attention to the south. What remained of the northern ork forces were of little trouble, and so the next few weeks were taken to clear the southern ork threat. Four months after the death of the warboss, the war against the orks was declared won.

Post-War Recovery

Though the war itself was completed, the ork forces still remained in some number and the city lay in ruins after eighty years of battle. Silent Crag has since then remained a focal point for security. Patrols walk it and the surrounding lands daily, while its defensive infrastructure has continued to expand around and into the mounhains themselves.  As the cities only land entrance to the rest of the continent, Silent Crag has also become the base of operations for any expeditionary teams sent outside of Olicana. Though expeditions remain sparse, it has become a point of significant political interest for the ideals it represents; that the rest of Somnium Reach can be reclaimed one day.
