The Breach
ess than two years had passed since Avlar, The God-King had given up his campaign of the continent and slew the goddess Death, and the world was still reeling at this change. At this time, an event occurred that plunged Daënfel into its darkest era of history; the doors of The Maw opened, in an event known as 'The Breach'. Monsters, thriving for centuries in The Depths Below and previously only finding ways to the surface at the fringes of society, suddenly poured forth from the heart of the crumbling Kingdom of Eá-galwen near the then-village of Hope, bringing death and destruction as they spread out across the world. Societies buckled and collapse, with a war-weary world struggling to deal with this new threat. The old systems collapsed and over the next 150 years, survival was all that mattered for the people of Daënfel. During this time a new order of Powerful Organizations arose, with the line of the gods-blessed Davistan Emperors and their newly formed Empire slowly uniting the bastions of society under a single banner once more. During this time, great cultural change took place within this world, as the phenomena known as the Great Displacement occurred. In these years many of the Knightly Orders of Daënfel were also formed to combat the Darkness across the land, with institutions such as The Knights of the Eclipse and The Dawn Guard created to protect the people from the monsters that threatened their everyday existence. Eventually, enough order was restored for the world to return a semblance of normality that it once knew - traders freely travelling between cities, farmers and craftsmen once again being able to spread far and wide across the land - but few still remained who could remember the world which had come before this time. Monsters to this day still lurk all across the Empire and the continent as a whole - some last vestigates of the Darkness that was spread over three centuries ago now - but as a whole they have been contained back within The Maw or left to roam the sparsely inhabited Rhakhis Peaks. No one knows exactly what caused the Breach, with it being an often-discussed legacy of this world that every tavern-local or historical commentator has a strong opinion on.
