Excerpt from the Confession of a Heretic

All our truths are lies. Nothing is real, this world is a lie. We are in a prison and the Cynosure is no god, but a warden. It holds us here trapped and told we will be led to salvation. It's all Bugshit! It is time to kill our keeper and free ourselves! If you continue follow that lie then you nothing but maggotfodder!

The Cultists of Crevice are usually grouped together for their dangerous non-beliefs. They are usually dropped in unorganized groups that are found and destroyed before their beliefs can spread. That is until recently. The discovery of the Prison Cult has made the city change how it has handled the cults of the past. This group is well organized and deadly. They have shown to be capable of executing complex plans leading to one of the worst disasters in recent history.

History

The largest event attributed to them is the destruction of the Beacon of Love. The explosion killed many and would have killed more if not for the quick warnings by The Darkness. That event by itself shook the whole city to the core. The Darkness has reported that several other attempts to kill the Cynosure have thwarted, but there are many more sects that they are still tracking down. This ongoing threat has made it difficult to discern what caused a specific disaster and to many people creating rumors that even the recent Quake on Paradise was somehow created by them.

Mythology & Lore

This group appears to be believe the Path of Cynosure is false and that they are being lied to by our Kyren and other leaders. They wish to free themselves from this prison using any means necessary. They view things like the Diamond Maze and the Endless Ocean as barriers designed to prevent them from leaving. Their ultimate goal appears to be able to travel to the surface, although the reports on this seem mixed.

Divine Origins

Although their discovery is a recent event from an investigation by The Darkness, their history seems to be much deeper. Likely going back over a thousand years.

Tenets of Faith

Their tenets seem to be very loose and not very consistent. Each sect found seems to have their role in regards the the ultimate goal. These are what they all appear to have in common.

• The Cynosure is not a god
• The Cynosure is a warden or prison guard
• The Cynosure is trapping us here
• It is time to break out of the prison

Beyond these basic ideals, their beliefs seem to vary widely between the sects. Some wish to kill the Cynosure, while others try to break the barriers they feel are preventing them from escaping. Despite these differences, the groups work together and help each other with individual goals.

Ethics

The moral codes of the sects also tend to vary extensively. Some seem to be fine with causing massive death and destruction, while others tend to try and find less destructive goals.

Political Influence & Intrigue

Some of the most recent disasters have led to a bit of chaos with the Cynosure Beacons. There are reports that some high level officials within the Beacons as well as well respected noble families are members of this cult. This has placed some doubt on the ability of the Kyren to screen for cultists.

Sects

This group of Cultists appear to have sects in Stratum of the city. This is particularly disturbing for the people who previously felt the city was doing a good job of removing cultist threats.
The Paradise Sect appears to be the most violent at this moment, but it has been largely hampered by the capture of some key people.
The recent sect found on the Entertainment Stratum was originally blamed for the recent Verdant Infection outbreak, but was then cleared of it.
Reports of sect in the Lifestone Forest is even more surprising as most people within the city have been unable to survive there.
These are only the sects that have been found or confirmed to exist. Others may exist that have not been found yet.

Destruction of the Beacon of Love

There are a lot of rumors about this catastrophe and not enough facts, so I'm going to clear things up as a witness to the event. It was a simple day at work when the icy center of the Beacon began to glow....yes, I said glow.

Demons had come directly into the Beacon itself! People were yelling to get out of the building....so I did obviously. From outside the entire building began to glow...blinding me from seeing much else. Someone was yelling,

"Get Down, Get Down!"

So I jumped down into the snow as the sound hit me. I was thrown many feet away with this terrible pain in my leg and arm. As my vision came back, I was laying in the snow with shards of ice all over me....it horrific. The healers ran over to me and saved my life. Then I saw the Kyren being carried by a group of people away from the area. He had lived. Looking at the Beacon, it made my heart break. There was nothing left, the entire thing was gone and the field around me littered with the injured. Who could have done such a horrific act?
