Commonwealth of Central America
Central America has always been a pivotal center of trade, linking not only the Americas, but what was once the Eastern and Western worlds. It is therefore fitting that the Central American Sector was the site of the planet’s first space elevator and a system-wide travel hub to this day. It is also home to an enormous financial center, with the capital of San Miguel in particular home to many of the United Federation of Nations largest banks and corporations. The flag of the Commonwealth was adopted in 2354. The blue field is meant to represent the world’s oceans, with the white stripe symbolizing Central America’s place in the world and its desire for peace.
Culture
A period of rebirth in Hispanic culture began after the Great War. The old cities, such as San Miguel, miraculously had surviving works of art and architecture, although many had to be restored or repaired. A building project started in many major cities to renovate them. San Miguel was turned into what was called "the Jewel of the Americas." Trade increased as exports of Hispanic natural materials mixed with more exotic goods, artworks, sculptures, and pieces of literature became best sellers across the United Federation of Nations.
The cultural rebirth after the Great War made a lasting impact on Earth that can be seen to this day, artists like Emilio Vargas, who painted Dawn over Seville made their mark as the great contemporary artists of the day, being seen as equals with Jackson Pollock or Mark Rothko.
Cafes line the narrow streets where light-hearted music can be heard playing whimsically entertaining the crowds who muse over their coffee and discuss the news. Musicians like Estrella Azul create the latest sensations, records play from jukeboxes manned by a crew of vigilant baristas in many a café.
Military
The mainstay of the Commonwealth Army is its infantry divisions, who participate in combat on various worlds as well as stifling revolutions in the making. Commonwealth infantry are renowned for their professionalism and efficiency, and have been deployed in many conflicts the Commonwealth has found itself in.
The Commonwealth Navy centers around transports, its goal being to get the soldiers safely to where they are needed. Commonwealth transports are known to be surprisingly armored and carrying astonishing firepower. Lessons learned by the Commonwealth Armada have taught the Commonwealth that the transports need to survive, which has lead to the design principle of heavy armored and up-gunned transports. It is not uncommon to see these transport serving in combat roles when other ships are stretched thin.
Trade & Transport
The Commonwealth centers its economy around the banking industry as well as the agriculture and light industry, with rare breeds of green vegetables and fine vintages of wine being grown in Central America and shipped to worlds across the United Federation of Nations. It is said a bottle of 2352 Flor Roja will sell on the market for five hundred Credits Standard. The Commonwealth also ships out fine quality vegetables that are particularly desirable to frontier colonies, due to their high nutrition value and reliability. On the manufacturing side, the Commonwealth is known for the production of luxury vehicles, from luxury aircraft selling from hundreds of thousands to millions of credits, to fancy automobiles to be sold to wealthy businessmen. The Commonwealth has become renown for their high quality luxury goods.
